What are your neighbours doing to annoy you this summer?

For the past two evenings, just as it's finally cooled down enough to open the windows, one neighbour has fired up a BBQ and another has lit a log fire.

I know people are entitled to enjoy their gardens, but the timing feels almost impressively irritating.

Anyway, rather than sitting here seething internally while my house slowly fills with eau de smoked sausage and bonfire, please tell me about your neighbours' most gloriously twattish habits.

The more petty and irrationally annoying, the better.

Help me feel less alone 😂

Mooing. No respect for the neighbours at all, milky bastards.

This made me laugh out loud !! Thank you.

Hotafternoon · 21/06/2026 22:29

Tuneless bloody whistling. I've dug out some earplugs left over from when I worked nights so I can sit on the patio to read my book.

Once I hear it, I can't tune it out and it goes on all the time he's in his garden.

Shut up man!

YesItsMe44 · 21/06/2026 22:29

I'd be tempted to accidentally fling a paper plate over the fence, if there's one. If he asks what's going on you can say you thought he was whistling for his dinner.

Building a massive extension, just after someone else finished their massive extension. Diggers starting first thing ever. Single. Day. Since September now 😡

They had a kids birthday party on their front driveway. The reason they can't do it in their garden is because they put in an absurd planning application to build a pair of semi's in their garden leaving them with about 3 sq metres of garden. Somehow, on the 5th attempt, it was approved. So now they are just holding their own personal street parties apparently.

I hope they step on Lego.

Edited

Oh no, a child’s birthday party in the middle of the afternoon on their own property.

My neighbours are bloody brilliant. They make as much noise as we do. they row, they talk loudly , they have music on, and people round, and to anyone else they might be complete nightmare neighbours. But we are both done and indoors by 9. Every night.

I paid for someone to put a Voodoo curse on my neighbours a few years ago. One died of a heart attack and the other developed dementia and has gone to live with her family. Annoy me and I will put a bloody curse on you myself.

The only good neighbour is a dead one.

Blimey. Are you ok??

starlightbright18 · 21/06/2026 22:17

Smoking cigars in the garden. The smell makes me feel nauseous so we end up having to stay indoors with the windows and door closed.

mooseybroon · 21/06/2026 22:17

BBQ reek all over my washing on the line. Pisses me right off

theleftsuitcase · 21/06/2026 22:14

Otherwise good neighbours who have absolutely shit taste in music and no concept of the use of headphones. It’s basically lift music used as a form of torture.

DoodIeBug · 21/06/2026 22:14

Thumping a ball on the ground constantly

Happyjoe · 21/06/2026 22:11

One side - nothing, they're great people. The other side, well, breathe.

Loulou4022 · 21/06/2026 22:10

Ours get pissed and start arguing! It’s pot luck as to when they start! Could be mid afternoon Sunday or 2am Saturday!

Amaura · 21/06/2026 22:05

Owning a fucking pigeon deterrent which they hang in their front garden facing my house, that goes off every 28.8 seconds, which means I can’t have my front room window open without losing my shit. Apparently it’s fine, because adults can’t hear it and they need to get rid of the birds.

I don’t think they understand some people hear them differently to them

Parking over my driveway, forcing me to park over someone else's.

Dog barking ferociously when I am in the garden (we are in a u shape, terrace arrangement, so it is a row of four gardens).

OnlyTheBravest · 21/06/2026 21:55

i don't mind people using their garden but the various amplified portable speakers are doing my nut in. Alongside, endless personal conversations on speakerphones about absolute nothing. Headphones are a thing people!

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · 21/06/2026 21:54

I live in a rather naice area but there’s still noise. One lady went out in the week and I heard her shouting something in the middle of the night as she got home. Woke me up and pissed me off but the man she was with said “get in” like a teacher and I heard her huff and the door slam. That made me laugh.

someone feeds the birds and they all live in the hedge next to my house. I like waking up to birdsong but this is ridiculous. There’s 100s of them screaming as loud as they can between 3.50 ans 4.30 every morning. I can’t stand it.

TheyGrewUp · 21/06/2026 21:53

Nothing. They are lovely and our houses are far enough away from each other not to ha e impact. Actually, I haven't seen a neighbour for about 4/5 weeks.

Unescorted · 21/06/2026 21:53

The people in the AirBnB next door let their yappy dog out at 6 this morning..... Well I couldn't get back to sleep so I finished the overlocking (Janome... If you know you know) and once that finished it seemed rude not to start the sanding of the garden furniture.

Unashamedly that annoying neighbour.

AMumWithWiFi · 21/06/2026 20:40

😂 do you think she got that idea from MN?

I did wonder , but she’s out of context 🤣

OneNaiceSnail · 21/06/2026 21:47

Moved in next door with 7 cats, who managed to tear their way through a reinforced cage/pen and slaughter every one of my button quails (mostly babies). Some I’d had for years and most were extremely rare colours from eggs I’d imported and hatched to breed with my own birds. Lots of little lives lost and around 8 years of work (producing rare colour mutations) gone in one night. My little boy is devastated as he was responsible for the incubating and raising them as babies.
edited to add fuck cat owners and people who think its acceptable to let them roam free as an invasive species to kill and destroy as they please, they should not be kept as free roaming pets!

RunningJo · 21/06/2026 21:47

We have a neighbour who jet washes everything!
I understand washing the car, cleaning the patio area, but to explain the length of time he does it for he’d need a fleet of cars and a patio the size of a bloody football pitch 😂

Holliegee · 21/06/2026 21:45

My neighbours are doing some sort of DIY project in their back garden and we are now on the 3rd week of continual angle grinding, sawing, drilling, bashing, arguing with his wife (they don’t start til 8am on Sundays)throwing creosote around with wild abandon whilst my washing was on the line - singing badly to 80s pop music and the other neighbour is having a wild time smoking weed continually (I can’t smell it) but anyone visiting my house tells me it stinks of weed in the garden and occasionally in the kitchen - but I’ve been chilled out for the 3 years she’s lived here as a by product of the fumes and I fear if she moves I may become a miserable cow !! 😂😂.

Ohcrap082024 · 21/06/2026 21:42

They leave their yappy daschund to “play” out in the garden by itself. Except it spends her time waiting for my dog to come out into her garden so that yapper can yap furiously at my dog. My dog who is usually very good in the garden who is starting to get a bit pissed off.
