What are your neighbours doing to annoy you this summer?

For the past two evenings, just as it's finally cooled down enough to open the windows, one neighbour has fired up a BBQ and another has lit a log fire.

I know people are entitled to enjoy their gardens, but the timing feels almost impressively irritating.

Anyway, rather than sitting here seething internally while my house slowly fills with eau de smoked sausage and bonfire, please tell me about your neighbours' most gloriously twattish habits.

The more petty and irrationally annoying, the better.

Help me feel less alone 😂

Violence and blood shed. Furry feline neighbour was in the process of murdering a magpie when it was set upon by a whole gang of magpies. Then a rival gang of seagulls started circling shrieking blue murder to warn everyone on the street of what was happening. Cat retreated under a car with magpie still in mouth .

AClassicTrenchcoat · 22/06/2026 07:28

That was last night so that is a nice start to the week.

AClassicTrenchcoat · 22/06/2026 07:27

Communal garden which they have overtaken with all their stuff - using a jetwash and gardening at 11pm. Asked them politely to stop, got a mouthful back. Twats.

Udderly inconsiderate

I’d have no beef with that 😆

BitOutOfPractice · 22/06/2026 07:10

Held a massive Pride event where thousands of people had a whale of a time in the sunshine, right where I could see it all, and listen to the music with a a glass of wine. Bastards, enjoying themselves like that.

Gettingbysomehow · 22/06/2026 07:04

Banging around the house upstairs for hours on end. I was just about to go and ask them to pack it in when I realised it was my 16 year old and 4 year old cats going bananas chasing each other.

StuntNun · 22/06/2026 07:00

My neighbour was screaming at her boyfriend in the small hours while I anxiously tried to work out whether I needed to call the police.

SparklyGlitterballs · 22/06/2026 06:54

The same as they do every day from early spring to late autumn. They sit out in their garden with a radio playing from first thing AM to last thing PM. Not loud enough for me to enjoy what's playing (not that I particularly want to hear it). All I get is the base and muffled talking in between songs. They're 'new' neighbours of about 3 years and are two doors down. Before them was an elderly lady there who was quiet, and it was a pleasure to be able to sit in the garden and listen to the birds but now, once I've noticed the radio, I just can't block it out. One of these days I'll knock on the door and ask if they can turn it down just a little bit, but I hate confrontation, so I've avoided it thus far.

Last night 2 cars outside my window parked boot to boot and the inhabitants stood beside the cars and staged a rap battle 😫 I won’t ask you guess which area I live in, but yes it’s London!!

A rap battle. I’m actually crying 🤣

Velumental · 22/06/2026 06:42

My vets weet, almost 100 yr old neighbour is now bed bound and has carers and family in 10+ times a day (may we all be sow ell tended in our later years) while my neighbours on the other side hate all noise. So my noise hating neighbours curtain twitch and moan about all the coming and going while my dog barks every time someone comes up the drive nextdoor because their only good parking option is outside my front window. So noise hating neighbours are finding my dog very annoying and honestly so am I. He's 11 though, my dog, and has a bit of dementia himself so has forgotten some of his training and isn't amenable to learning new things either. The whole things annoying but mostly I feel annoyed at my noise hating neighbours. I keep my blinds closed a lot to avoid it now

The problem with loud classical music is that he probably expects you to be grateful for it as it’s ‘cultural’. If it was drum and bass everyone would agree it was antisocial.

To be fair, I wouldn’t mind if the guy at the end of our street was blasting a bit of Chopin. Instead we get shit dance/pop music from the 90s and 00s plus generally drunken renditions of these songs. He thinks he’s a DJ which makes it worse.

@flatbuyingdilemma Oooo i'd love a rap battle to take place outside my house. Sadly not nuch chance of this, living in the Peak District 😂

Icanseeasquirrel · 22/06/2026 05:40

Oh I wanna join in but my neighbours are wonderfully decent and quiet. I live in a town with a bad reputation but honestly they’re all lovely. Just the odd murmur or trickling of a watering can.

His garden is terrible. Overgrown with buses and trees that go up to about 20 feet high.
Fence is uncared for and battered

overgrown buses are very hard to get rid of, you could try diluted vinegar though.

Conversationalcheddar · 22/06/2026 05:29

All the windows are open because, you know, it’s bloody hot. That one neighbour goes to work at about 3.45/4am. But not before he turns his performatively noisy car on idle on the drive and (I assume) fiddles with his playlists or google maps or goes through his emails or something for 4-5 minutes. By the time he finally p*sses off me and DH are flipping him off from the bed.

And then the baby wakes up 45 minutes later anyway and it’s game over.

Those damn home grown red buses Wink

SneakyGremlin · 22/06/2026 05:18

Upstairs seems to spend her entire time wearing Doc Martens. Hmm

Upstairs to the left smokes endless weed. Hmm

Below us is a grumpy alcoholic but he does take my parcels in Grin

Across the hall is a lovely Filipino family with two kids who we almost never hear but they use their balcony for some kind of traditional barbecue which produces SO MUCH SMOKE Sad

AngryBeyondWords03 · 22/06/2026 03:36

He works but is also an alcholic.

He pee's in the garden every single night.

Our gardens are VERY close together and sometimes if i am in my conservatory, i can hear him peeing. Disgusting

MoonlightMemories · 22/06/2026 02:49

Not a neighbour per se but there is a particular couple of people who walk their dogs through the area I live in. It'll be a lovely, peaceful afternoon and then their dogs will start barking like crazy and they seemingly do nothing to stop it as it goes on for ages and then this sets off other dogs that are out in the gardens of nearby houses, which seems to make the original dogs bark louder and so on....sonetimes for what seems like agee! don't know why but it just gets on my nerves so badly and makes me really quite irrationally cross!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 22/06/2026 02:32

Breathing
Only joking My neighbour is a pain in the arse all year around, she never makes noise, lives alone but she blood well stalks me and everyone else.
I don’t mind neighbours living their life, admittedly the noise of children is annoying at times but I’d have noisy children over nosey Parker next door any day.

Lavenderandbrown · 22/06/2026 02:26

going around the circle….
neighbor one wind chimes/
huge fake hideous topiaries in pots
barking dogs. Every time you go outside.

neighbor two…every weekend is a family get together. 9 or so cars sometimes
more. Dogs and kids and constantly either calling the kids names or the dogs name. But they do wrap up very consistently 10 pm or so.
Both these neighbors have all kinds of accessory lighting. Put in 3 yrs ago. All solar you could land an airplane on their patios. One light just one shines right in my bedroom.
neighbor three…
swimming pool with (counted) 21 pieces of unmatched furniture. Black blue orange brown all different. Never do any yard work. DD are older now and they have their boyfriends over to swim. There is always a late night swim..midnight or so and one boy says fuck loudly many times. Always fuck this fuck that.

despite all this it’s a relatively quiet neighborhood during the week

suburberphobe · 22/06/2026 01:55

Smoking weed and the smells wafting through my house

Welcome to the world.

Better to have some plant derived smells wafting about than filthy cars spewing their filth thanks.

Does it get you high? Just enjoy and chill.....

canuckup · 22/06/2026 01:55

Our neighbours are mostly brilliant, but one neighbour has a dog that barks a lot, and another manages to use his leaf blower when there are no leaves to blow.

To be fair, he has calmed down with it since the three years he's lived near us. The first year was shocking for leaf blowing.
