What are your neighbours doing to annoy you this summer?

For the past two evenings, just as it's finally cooled down enough to open the windows, one neighbour has fired up a BBQ and another has lit a log fire.

I know people are entitled to enjoy their gardens, but the timing feels almost impressively irritating.

Anyway, rather than sitting here seething internally while my house slowly fills with eau de smoked sausage and bonfire, please tell me about your neighbours' most gloriously twattish habits.

The more petty and irrationally annoying, the better.

Help me feel less alone 😂

Our neighbours are 3 very sweet Highland Cattle, they moo a lot, but like ear scritches. Our old neighbours were awful, loud music, regular jet washing, he once jet washed an apple tree at 6am! So glad Our nearest human neighbours are a mile away

Oh I am actually green with envy

One Easter Sunday a new neighbour started his home improvements..which involved dropping bricks from an upstairs window into a skip. The third brick i PA slammed the bedroom window shut. It was 8am...
He re started the work next day instead. And at a more civilised time.
We always got on after that!

Yeah that's not ok. I'm forever assessing my timings and can't understand why other people aren't like this.

It's as if they don't see people outside their own existence.

Laughorbloodycry · 24/06/2026 13:29

I have to assess my own behavior when I read this and complain.

I won't make noise at certain hours, in the garden especially so would say I'm very considerate.

But I play an instrument and have a pressure hose that I enjoyed blasting this week. I chose the busiest hour so not to ruin peoples day.

In my youth I would have been the neighbor from hell with partying and did receive warning letters I recall when 20

I'm getting my karma now I am older and seek peace and solitude 🙋‍♂️😆

The biggest stress for me has been cat shit.

It has not happened for a while. An old neighbor has feral ones that crapped at least twice a day.

I could not stop it and tried all sorts. It made me dislike cats and I am an animal lover usually.

It’s the hottest day so far and neighbours on both sides of my tiny house are using machines/ spades/ lawnmowers since 11am. I’ve got only a couple of windows open and have the wrist headache already.
These are the home owners, not workers. I bet they got the day off work because of the weather and have decided to take out their tools and do some work at home instead. At lunch time. It’s mad.
One of them has two young children but of course they’ve been shipped to the granny with a paddling pool, while I have to bring my dc after school now and have them either listen to the noise or suffocate with all windows closed.

Shitting all over my garden.

Bloody neighbour cats.

Put chilli powder down and some large lollipop sticks in between, so they can't shit in your plant beds. Sometimes it's foxes instead.

ToadRage · 23/06/2026 15:19

My neighbour is lovely but her son, while a nice young man generally, plays a lot of online games and shouts at his computer at all hours. His bedroom is right next to ours so we hear him at night and his window is always wide open so we can hear him in the garden also. It's not a really big problem and we usually just ignore it but when she came over for a drink in the garden last summer she was surprised we had never mentioned it.

Wow. What a treat. 😬

Karma might take over one day hopefully.....I wrote a story for moral support....

In the midst of a sweltering heatwave, Mr and Mrs Pie-Head relax amidst the bubbles of their B&M, Bluetooth stereo equipped hot tub. 🌞

Under the blazing midday sun, the buzzing, vibrating blow up contraption gradually expands as it's inhabitants guzzle their ice infused Lambrini and cans of Stella...🍺

An hours worth of FaceTime calls to family and friends, booming out via the Hot Tub Bluetooth speakers, invokes a loud bustling festival atmosphere. Yaaay. The sun blazes, pork skin crispens, tongues loosen, everyone is having great fun.....,🥳

With almost no warning, the ever expanding rubber tub explodes with such cataclysmic force that the shockwaves are sent down the entire street. 💥

Horror subsequently unfolds as the force of this explosion propels Mr and Mrs PH out the contraption that once was the epitome of their 'Love, Live, Relax' lives 🙏

In almost slow motion, Mr Pie Head seemingly somersaults across kitchen windows crying out in a slowed down deepened voice....' Noooo'..🙋‍♂️

As if the sight before all agaze could not get any worse...Mr PH's new England Team Matalan swim shorts suddenly tear off under the explosive force, thereby exposing all embarrassing parts to the street. 🍄

Having consumed too much of the fizzing gas variety that day; automatic bodily functions have taken charge. ..💩

Mr PH defecates down his leg forming an unfortunate chain of dried clinkers attached to his leg hair in the space of 2 seconds. Very sadly thus covering up the recent calf ink adornment. 🦵

Nearby neighbours pause aghast....then film the spectacle and post it online; just for the LOLs.....🤷

No children will be harmed in the making of this scene... 🙏

Oh thank you for the best laugh I’ve had all day.

I'd complain about that.

I believe it's a problem on your records if you own the home though ; which is really unfair.

RubieChewsDay · 23/06/2026 14:06

Demolishing the back of the house just in time for the summer holidays starting. I know people have the right to do work to their house, but doing the demolition work over this period is really inconsiderate, it's noisy and dusty that our garden is basically unusable during the day.

The last time that happened was THE last time! Neighbour kept leaving the open, unbagged nappies on top of the bins on bin days - not just his own bin but anybody’s bins😡

My neighbour got so damn fed up with it, he took their bin “for a long stroll” and kept one nappy back, bagged it and tied it very firmly to their front door handle.

It stopped happening.

I think I would like that neighbour who took action 😆.

I am in a somewhat vulnerable position. And I feel that is why various things happen - like using my bin. There has been more that has made it an uncomfortable experience living here. People can overstep beyond words if they see there's some vulnerabilities there health wise, support wise - no big meat head guy living here etc.

I have complained this time - simply because I am done with all the overstepping which has been endless. I don't own the home so can complain.

All the fucking noise. Dog left to howl in the garden all day, radio on full blast even if they aren’t home, tv in the garden, hot tub, screaming kids, shouting on FaceTime endlessly, outside pissed until midnight.

I'd complain about that.

Peachie31 · 23/06/2026 13:54

My neighbours have their bins down the side of their house which is alongside my driveway. It's a huge pet peeve of mine seeing bins out the front (I just think it looks scruffy) but it partocularly annoys me when it's hot because they absolutely bloody stink and it's like 2ft away from my car so you walk right past them to get to the passenger side. It's gross.
Wash. Your. Damn. Bins.

Can I ask how you would all feel if your somewhat difficult neighbours put a bag of their shitty nappies, into your bin due to no space of their own.....

Inviting their entire extended family to hang out in the street - picture a small close with cars parked everywhere and 15 people drinking in the street plus kids running riot. Why on earth they have to hang out in the road instead of their back garden is beyond.

Yes, why do people feel the need to live their lives so publicly. It’s usually those with the least interesting conversations. Baffling.

Havent seen mine in nearly 2 months. Given his previous behaviour Im wondering if he's gone to prison?
Still its bliss actually being able to use my garden!😀

TheLongestDayShortestNight · 23/06/2026 10:58

I’m retiring in a few weeks.. I was looking forward to it…New folk next door moved in, about 3 weeks ago, not from UK so we can’t chat but we nod and wave in passing. 3 kids, newish baby and 2 little girls very close in age / twins about 2 years old maybe. The one child does nothing bar scream, cry and grizzle all bloody day! The children who lived there before played nicely, it made me smile hearing them chatter, but Hells Bells, this little one is draining! I go out with the washing and to the bin with stuff and that’s it!
I leave the kitchen door open for Ddog so can’t escape the whining . Hoping for a bit of rain to be honest…

The neighbour down the street is a freelance DJ so he’s at home all day and he sits in his garden blasting his shit remixes but he’s also generally loud and shouts across the road to the other neighbours who will also be sitting in their garden. I really despise him.

Gettingbysomehow · 23/06/2026 10:25

Urgh tell them no as it's bird nesting season currently. Don't they know the trees will help keep their house & garden cooler during hot summers?

I’m sure we must have annoyed some of our neighbours but when we moved we had to cut down a lot of trees and shrubs as a drain had failed and rainwater was undermining the foundations of our garage. This was done to put in a new soak away. However, the whole garden of the property was completely surrounded by leylandii hedging that had been allowed to get to over 20 feet high and about 12 feet wide. So we used the opportunity to just get rid at the same time and we’ve planted new yew, field maple and privet hedging but this will take a while to grow and return the privacy.

We did wait until winter to do the work though. And we told the neighbours what we were doing and why. Most were pleased as the conifers meant they struggled to keep things under control in their side of the boundary and nothing would grow, but one neighbour thought we were bringing down HER hedge until we invited her round to see what the tree people were doing. We also replaced all the old fencing so she and her elderly husband had a morning entertainment watching the new fencing being put in.
