To think life is more of a pain in the arse than it's worth

Another day another random assortment of hassle and pain

And this is pretty much the best it's ever been (ok the 00s were better)

Aibu to wonder why this is a secret truth?

No it's a shit show of chores and dealing with wankers. I'm not saying you shouldn't feel free to feel differently but it's objectively gash around here.

I agree about the wankers, I think all the political unrest has made me look at people very differently.
I was always proud of the uk but since brexshit and now reform restore etc I just think there are cunts everywhere that want to destroy our country.

how will we actually function if everyone brown leaves or is deported. What a sad place it would be.

Conspiracy theorist?

Sounds like it.

Ughhh the unimaginative and docile control all our lives with their vapid value systems.

Conspiracy theorist?

ToddlerFun7482i292 · 18/06/2026 22:31

I agree. It's shit.

DysonHoover · 18/06/2026 22:31

Life is actually pointless really - nothing to do with how good it bad it is. I keep things simple because why complicate things? What's the point of striving for stuff, you can't take it with you and we're all going to die sooner or later and then none of this will matter. Luckily I'm easily pleased and enjoy the simple things

CurdinHenry · 18/06/2026 22:30

Basically this

Mmhm. Choose to dust under your bed and pay your speeding ticket and watch as all the jobs around us are dismantled.

My life is the best it’s ever been. Financial stable, a husband I literally adore and he is the same with me. Kids are thriving. But I still have my days where I think is this all there is? Surely there’s more

Yes, there is more. Surviving advanced cancer, and a year of awful treatment, with complications, during which our son-in-law died tragically, and suddenly, with no warning. He had an undiagnosed heart problem. Somehow, ordinary seems OK. I will settle for that. What is left is a welcome bonus.

SwitchUpTime · 18/06/2026 22:28

@CurdinHenry so what’s your theory as to why it’s a secret truth?

Well because if you say this is shit eh you get either performative Concern pathways or social opprobrium. So like parenthood there's a serious taboo ceiling for candour.

I’m one of those people who struggles with life. I’ve put it down to having chronic serious health problems. I can hardly say I’m thriving.

Happiness is a choice. You can choose to make the most of what you’ve got and appreciate what you have, or choose not to.

Basically this

Bebeemerald · 18/06/2026 22:27

I mean, you just said the government don’t allow assisted dying because so many people would go for it. Sounds like a cry for help to me. Don’t need to be an asshole. Maybe that’s why you’re depressed

Snap out of it! You don’t want to spend your one-life miserable. Try to enjoy whatever it is you currently have in your life and be hopeful for a better day tomorrow.

I do enjoy plenty of pleasures. But it's not worth the candle. If I could press a button to stop my parents from having bothered I would.

With some slight trepidation that pre birth Mormon limbo might be real.

I'm not. Although I do find your inability to engage with the philosophical concept of the futility of existence a bit depressing.

BettyJoanPerske · 18/06/2026 22:26

YABU. I get feeling down sometimes but life is what you make it. It isn't 'objectively' bad any more than it is good.

CurdinHenry · 18/06/2026 22:25

Bebeemerald · 18/06/2026 22:24

op if you’re feeling suicidal there is a lot of help available

Op seems to be saying she’s suicidal so not sure ‘snap out of it’ is appropriate

My life is objectively better than almost everyone who has ever lived (even more for most women, jesus imagine not being allowed to earn your own money and living before tampons). But it's still a massive hassle across the piece.

My honest view, the reason they don't allow assisted dying on demand is that too many taxpayers would go for it.

I am seriously thinking of not watching the news any more. That poor little boy, Preston and now a toddler, has been fed to the crocodiles by a random.

Has that impacted your life? Did you know him?

DeepRubySwan · 18/06/2026 22:22

Why don't you try enjoying life and appreciate the small things? The absurdity of life is both it's beauty and banality. Stop being an Eeyore.
