To think life is more of a pain in the arse than it's worth

Another day another random assortment of hassle and pain

And this is pretty much the best it's ever been (ok the 00s were better)

Aibu to wonder why this is a secret truth?

OP hasn't come back then.

She is probably still nursing her hangover acquired during the bottle of vodka she consumed while constructing this thread.

Such as? I still need to work. I still need to clean.

Things like, if you moved to a cheaper area (no idea what the COL is where you are), would that mean you could work less? Are you funding things that you can do differently or not fund? Do you have things you never feel you have time for that you could do if you set a timer on - like a game or social media that can make time disappear fast if you're not careful. Are you cleaning standards something that can relax a bit?

In my own life I've sometimes done things like that with good results.

Feeling like this, are there any changes you can make to your life to make things easier and get off the treadmill? I'd be prepared to make quite dramatic changes to make life easier and more enjoyable (and have in the past).

Completely agree OP. Life is pretty miserable these days. I work all day to barely afford groceries. If I'm not working I'm cleaning or something equally as tedious. I'm getting older and my joints are starting to give up on me. Then at the end is just death? Feels like an absolute joke. The moments of joy aren't enough. I wish I'd never been born if im completely honest.

I agree Frog 1004. Why the hell do we bother?

OP, I,m with you on this one. God help my grandchildren dealing with the next 50 years.
For those who say "snap out of it" and "be positive", perhaps you haven't looked at what's happening around you.
Day to day life is difficult, and it tests everyone, but sometimes I just despair.

YABU if you think it’s the best it’s ever been….the last decade has been shambolic from a political and economical point of view…

That's ours in the morning. They kept us going through lockdown. All the bad news then open the shed and you get this reaction. You have to smile.

Love it! Animals are one of the few joys I still have. It's basically a wildlife haven here-deer in the garden, wild bunnies everywhere. A baby one was right up at the door earlier nibbling the plants (I can forgive that lol) sheep and lambs close by. I love to see them. The only animals we don't have is goats and cows atm lol. I bet you could spend hours watching the goats!

God what a load of self indulgent tripe on this thread

Life is what you make it! Yes, you, you are in charge of your life.

And even if, in the moment, it's a bit shit; you can still find enjoyment. Sunshine on a park bench, a pretty flower, a reflection on times past.

Life is for living (and no point in saying that no human in history has, on average, lived a better life than in available now!).

Hear hear! No wonder these people are depressed, all they do is whine all day long.

You are making an amazing observation for which I thank Jesus who said: we are not of this world and are citizens of Heaven and the life we live now is just a prelude for the real life in Heaven

Exactly this. We can all have a perfect eternal life, praise Jesus 🙌🏼

I think it depends a lot on circumstance.

I have always floated through life and been generally happy with the small stuff.
But in the past year I have been hit with sudden hearing loss and screaming tinnitus which is not stable. I have loud ringing in both ears, and what I can only describe as an oscillating droning engine in my right ear. Anytime I hear a fan or the fridge my left ear rumbles along with it. Also, the head pressure, migraines and fullness is far worse than the hearing loss.

Life has gone from 'breezy' to a living hell every day. I struggle with thoughts of ending it all, and now understand anxiety and depression in a way I didn't before.

So your perspective on this can change, based on health challenges in my experience.

God I'm so sorry. How awful. A friend of mine had a similar issue. I pray they find a cure for you xx

Thank you for your kind words. I'm truly glad there are people like you who do understand.

Yes. That thread was... intense 😳 You see, apparently, I didn't realise i had to reply in a certain way, and stay on topic, and not discuss how my life experiences related (or not, apparently!) The poster who dismissed my replies told me that I had deviated from the actual topic by discussing disability. I mean, I only mentioned it because the OP had talked about welfare and responsibility to oneself (!) 😅😳😅

Absolutely yes, you're right that my experience didn't line up with theirs. They said in their abrupt reply "It's not always about you, you know." Charming..!

Thank you for understanding. Yes. Those who sound like they are understanding and kind are the ones who matter (and you're one) .❤️

There are a lot of a$$holes in this world unfortunately.....no wonder some of us get depressed! It's not you. It's them! Try not to take it to heart....xx

@OutsideLookingOut To be honest I wasn’t scared of dying, I was worried for my family. While I wasn’t scared of dying, I’m glad to be alive. I can smell the grass, a cool summers morning when the day will be hot, a nice cup of tea, I can only enjoy these because I’m not dead. So I am choosing to enjoy them.

I understand! The only difference is that while I can enjoy those things I often just wish not to be burdened by being alive. But I think it is a great strategy, no matter where you fall in this discussion, to try to enjoy any little thing you can. I mean we are here so why make ourselves and other people miserable? That is my thinking anyway. Yet I cannot deny if there was a painless way to just fade away, and no guilt about those I'd leave behind it would be such a relief.

I’ve had cancer recently, treatment 5 months from diagnosis to being told I’m sorted. Even, 20 years ago I’d probably have died. I can choose to be distressed and horrified I’ve had cancer, or I can pleased the NHS has sorted me out, I’m not bankrupt like I might be in the USA and I’m not dead.

People keep telling me, it must have been awful, but I’m just relieved and grateful.
You have a choice.

Congratulations on surviving cancer. I'm happy you are happy to be here and doing well! I agree, we are so fortunate to have social healthcare.

However some people on this thread would see it as a relief if they passed away... we are all different. You can be grateful to have survived something awful but also think... well if I had died that would not be too bad either.

Think of it like this, someone gives you something you do not really want, it doesn't matter how nice it is... you may feel grateful, honoured etc etc but at the end of the day, you don't want it. You don't have to be miserable either, I think that is a common misconception about people who feel this way.

My grandmothers were born into grinding poverty. Left school at 13, worked in mills, 10 hour days. No contraception, no NHS, women couldn’t vote.
I am very aware of how very, very lucky I am. Perhaps, consider how lucky you are rather than whine about the ‘drudge’ of a life free from the fear of TB, poverty, the workhouse or war.

Yes I don’t disagree however I’m being kept alive/going by a concoction of various medications (20 tablets a day prescribed). How is that normal? I’m in my 60’s. It’s likely to get worse. Imagine what that is probably doing to my insides. It’s probably no wonder Ive got gut issues! I got stopped at airport security recently due to the amount of medication. I mean it’s all prescription so there was no issue but it needs its own container.

Every morning our goats run out of their shed full of enthusiasm for the day.
Seriously enjoy their breakfast even though it's just the same as every day, see their field as some great adventure even though they have been in the same field all their lives, have fun chasing each other and play fighting, will sit facing into the sun for hours on their own doing nothing but content in their own company. Sometimes huddle together and sleep. They will give anything a go once and if they like it do it again, if not they don't do it again. They are very sociable and self confident but take no shit of anybody. They are dedicated parents but give their kids extreme independence. They know their place and role in the herd and accept it.
So the Goat attitude to life is:
Get joy in the familiar don't overthink things,
Try new things but don't persist with things you don't like,
Be part of a herd but enjoy being alone,
Take your responsibilities in your herd seriously but dont overburden yourself,
get joy in seeing your children or family gain their independence,
Respect yourself and others and don't be with others that put you down or are negative.
It seems to work for them.

Fabulous. I love it and they are beautiful goats.

Life is so random. The chances of us ending up here are vanishingly small, so as we’ve made it this far, we might as well do the best we can with it for the nanosecond we’re here. We’re all in the same boat - isn’t that a comfort?

We're not all in the same boat though. I am really lucky to have a friend I met who has very similar circumstances to me. That makes a lot of difference.

In the end though, while I do talk about things here, I don't tend to talk about it with people in real life. I might have especially challenging circumstances but those are my circumstances. They are part of me but they are not ME. I am still a person outside that. That is what I share with people.

I'm sorry you're going through that. I hope it can be sorted for you. There are new breakthroughs all the time, which gives me hope for my children. Life really can throw some curve balls at us.
