Not all men, but always men

Driving home from work tonight to the main news stories on the radio being 1) man tortures adopted baby to death and 2) man arrested after child ends up in crocodile enclosure at zoo.

I am absolutely sick of the daily onslaught of problematic men, monsters, committing outrages. That’s all, no suggestions, just AIBU to be sickened by this constant stream of beasts who live amongst us (Gisele Pelicot’s husband, recent terrorist attacks, daily murders of women by men) combined with personal experiences of men who ‘you wouldn’t have thought it to look at him’ turning out to be sex pests and paedophiles is putting me right off them as a sex class. Not your man, not your son, not my (lovely) Dad, but all the other men… how do we know which ones?

Its hard not to conclude it’s a man problem.

Also noticed that a lot of jokes about the child were from men and they weren't nice.

Curious and perhaps a bit of a tangent: are you wary of all non-white men? How would you judge which ones are from the cultures you think are misogynistic if you bump into them on the street or work with them?

I am wary of men generally but more so from certain cultures and I don’t care if you make a presumption from that. I grew up in a very deprived area with many different cultures and some cultures are worse than others for specific crimes and the way they treat women.

I often find it’s women from very nice upbringings in 95% white + areas with integrated immigrant communities that haven’t got ghettos preach the loudest that every single man is equal irrespective of country of origin. Probably a key reason why the grooming gang girls were ignored, too working class and in an area some women couldn’t even fathom trying to navigate an upbringing in.

Jellycatspyjamas · 18/06/2026 20:00

It’s not always men though, there are a fair few women who harm their own children, who kill their own children.

I work in criminal justice, fewer than 10% of currently supervised or imprisoned offenders are female, and the number who have committed violent or sexual offences are miniscule, the car majority are acquisitive offences, failure to secure attendance at school (funny how the dad isn't held responsible usually because he's nowhere to be seen) , non payment of fines and benefit fraud offences and so on. I don't call that a fair few women, when over 98% of violent and sexual offences in the UK are committed by men

Amodernhistory · 18/06/2026 20:04

It is very, very much, by a huge majority, largely men committing violent crime and largely men receiving whole life orders for acts of absolute depravity.

Either they're genetically dangerous and therefore inferior.

Or testosterone is dangerous.

Apologies for these analogies but... if any other group were as dangerous as a whole as men, there would be witch hunts.

Muslims
People of colour
French people
Asians

Imagine if anyone of those groups posed the risk to society that men do. But no, because it's mostly white men, it's just a fact of life and not only do we mostly ignore it, when it IS brought up, the cries of not all men, misandry and man hater rings out.

ChristmasCwtch · 18/06/2026 20:52

It’s not just in the news though. I’ve read several MN posts this afternoon about vile men!! Basically being awful to their wives, mostly verbally, some seem to be defecating and leaving the mess for their wives to clean up!!

The mind boggles. I think they’re getting worse!!

If I’m ever single in future, I wouldn’t touch another man. They’re mostly grim. I’m a mum of boys. I hope they grow up into nice human beings!!

I think you've got your stats wrong, its not far off 10 male prisons for every 1 female prison. 120 male, 14 female.

I'm not positive but I also believe the male prisons are larger. 84k male prisoners v 3.5k female

I recall reading that Scottish women prisoners are mainly incarcerated for more minor crimes. The Fee women are exceptions.

scoobysnaxx · 18/06/2026 20:51

Sadly you’re not being unreasonable. I am finding it increasingly difficult to not feel it’s all men. It’s really hard and seems to be getting harder.

Happyjoe · 18/06/2026 20:50

We wouldn't be having an MP asking for mandatory sex lessons to teach about consent etc to protect women and girls if it wasn't a mostly men problem.

I live in an area of high immigration and not far from a migrant housing facility. The men from other cultures I’ve mainly ‘bumped into’ in the street, are the ones who have followed my 14 year old daughter, and her friends home on a regular basis, offering to pay them for sex and describing in disgusting detail what they would do to them.

You're having to go back 40-60 years for those examples.
I wish you could say the same about men.

I did think the emoji expressed my sarcasm but clearly not. Have asked MN to delete.

I heard this story today without any details of the perpetrator. At no point did I think it could be a woman. I cannot imagine what the mother of that poor child is going through right now.

I read it was an autistic man with his carer but that might not be true.

There are about 2 men’s prisons for every woman’s prison - what does that tell you?

It's actually more like 10:1.

friedaklein · 18/06/2026 20:46

MightyDandelionEsq · 18/06/2026 20:36

This is absolute nonsense.

I wouldn’t travel to many countries as a lone woman and unfortunately, irrespective of skin colour there are certain cultures where violence and misogyny are the norm (not the exception) against women. Covering up to stop these men assaulting you is the minimum expectation.

Iraqs age of consent is 9yo. These men are going to have far more warped views of what is acceptable behaviour against women and girls.

So many people fear being called racist when let’s be honest, there are so many countries you daren’t go alone as a woman and the men that inhabit them are the issue.

Do you have any actual figures for that? (Thought not).

Whilst there is a group of politicians with a self interest in convincing you that "other cultures" are far more of a risk, the vast majority of harm done to women and children in this country is by white men, usually their former or current partners or father /step father.

Rochdale paedophile ring. 61men involved - three were white. And where child abuse is concerned it’s statistically proven that women - mothers - are largely the culprits because they are the care givers. Sexual abuse is not the only form of abuse. Non related men joining the family unit is where men represent the biggest threat. Do you not think that women are at least some way to blame for that by putting their need for a dick before their children ?

Kitte321 · 18/06/2026 20:44

For violent crime UK data also shows that perpetrators are predominantly male, though the proportion varies by offence type.
The latest available analysis from the UK Office for National Statistics found that perpetrators were male in roughly three-quarters to four-fifths of violent incidents reported by victims. In different survey years, the figure ranged from 74% to 82% of violent offences.

In very broad terms:

  • Violent crime overall: ~75–80% male perpetrators.
  • Sexual offences: overwhelmingly male perpetrators (typically 90%+ in offender data).
  • Violence against women and girls: predominantly male perpetrators.
  • Child sexual abuse: overwhelmingly male perpetrators. (ONS data shows 91% of victims reporting male-only perpetrators.)
  • Child neglect and some family abuse: more mixed, with both male and female perpetrators represented.

Of course, not all men and not always men. But statistically far more likely.

I was being facetious because that's the usual response to posts on male violence. Didn't land, clearly.

I wish I could edit my post! Ignore it.

Just report it and get MN to remove it as no one’s reading the full thread and keeps qt’ing you

Seasidecatlady · 18/06/2026 20:44

Some of the comments on this thread illustrate the constant gaslighting when it comes to male violence and the unwillingness to admit that there is a real problem with toxic masculinity.

Instead we get the usual ''not all men'' and ''women are just as bad'' nonsense.

I am really fed up with this.

Everyday we hear about men abusing and/or killing women and kids and generally displaying violent and anti social behaviour in society while the police and criminal justice system often fails to take rape and domestic violence seriously.

So yes there is a problem with men's behaviour.

Stats show they commit the majority of crimes, especially when it comes to violent and sexual offences. That's just a fact and no amount of denial is going to change that.

Yes they were monsters...however on the scale of atrocities towards children and women, men of all cultures are pretty much off the scale and it is not getting better.

OneShyQuail · 18/06/2026 20:43

I do despair and worry sometimes at the amount of young boys (12+) that i teach/come into contact with through work that range from using derogatory language about girls and women, all the way up to aggressive and violent tendencies towards females. They see girls/women as objects to be owned.

It is 100% getting worse. When I first started teaching 15+ years ago I never heard anything like it. Sexist comments yes (not excusing this either) but it was more "bantery" (again not excusing this either!!) But the tone is just different now.

Also, the things I am having to discuss with my 12 year old daughter because the boys in her class know way too much and are inappropriate is horrendous...they are way too sexualised already.

Awful. Just awful.
