Wrong address on school register

Tryingiton · 18/06/2026 19:27

I work in a school. If a parent has not changed their address on the school register because they moved in with their boyfriend ( had another baby with him ) almost two years ago would you ask for their current address? I suspect it’s because they have not declared they are living together. We have had lots of dads over the years who lived with their mothers ?? Except they didn’t. I live locally so it’s not a well kept secret.
Do you know anyone who has done the same thing ? Would you report them to UC?

It’s always a mistake to ask this on MN, because most people on here support benefit fraud. They also support not reporting abusive parents. It’s strange.

SquirrelRed · 18/06/2026 20:36

What makes you so sure she isn't working/is claiming benefits she isn't entitled to? Not updated her address doesn't prove anything.

Chilly80 · 18/06/2026 20:32

Do you not ask the parents if the info is correct every year? Our primary school prints off an info sheet for 1st parents evening with address, emergency contacts etc on it and you have to sign to say it is correct

PurpleLovecats · 18/06/2026 20:32

Just because she hasn’t updated the address with school, doesn’t mean she hasn’t done so with UC does it?

Nearly50omg · 18/06/2026 20:30

If she has nothing to hide and isn’t doing anything to wrong then it’ll be very simple to
prove to UC that won’t it 🤷‍♀️

parkezvous · 18/06/2026 20:26

There is an anon reporting line I think and website.

Baconandonions · 18/06/2026 20:22

You THINK you know this via your job, you need to focus on your job not playground gossip.

And benefit fraud isn’t ?

So you want to be just as fraudulent as you think she may be?

Pot, kettle and all that.

Strawberrryfields · 18/06/2026 20:03

No I wouldn’t. You don’t know their situation so just keep out of it. Even if you’re right, reporting her will have zero impact on you. If you’re not happy in your life do something about it instead of blaming your woes on other people. Or perhaps focus your attention on the big corporations or multimillionaires dodging tax.

MauriceTheMussel · 18/06/2026 20:02

So, vast majority of responses say YABU. You keep on pushing your agenda. Don’t bother making the thread. You think YANBU and get argumentative with everyone else 🤷🏼‍♀️

So honest people are weak and petty now?

You work in a school..(and not in direct contact with a classfull of children by the sound of things) hardly a 12 hour NHS shift..

Seems weak and petty to me

I didn’t say I didn’t have contact with the children. Did I ?

Not invested . Just another long day at work while others do fuck all.

It's very easy to report suspicions of benefit fraud anonymously online. You are simply adding to a jigsaw puzzle of information held. No information which could identify the whistleblower is taken.

hay5689 · 18/06/2026 19:46

I think you need a new job. Preferably one with no access to people’s personal information. You seem to be way too invested in this woman considering you only suspect her of benefit fraud and have no hard evidence.

MissAmbrosia · 18/06/2026 19:45

Breach of GDPR would probably lead to a massive investigation and can be subject to mega fines. Just send a mail to all parents asking them if their info is correct and then don't give it another thought.

And benefit fraud isn’t ?

we both know it is

but you’re not allowed to break the law just because she is. Or you think she is.

I don't understand how failing to tell school her new address means she must be committing fraud

Because she needs school to she’s difference address to the new boyfriend . We have had several cases of daddies living with their mummies over the years. Except they don’t. It’s to maximise benefits.

Getting someone else to report it would be breaking the GDPR law

I don’t hate her. I dislike those who play the system and don’t work because the rest of us fools are paying for them. Thankfully children do eventually turn 18! And then the money train stops.

I used to work in school admin. We asked for updated info annually. As far as I know schools don’t pass on this information to DHSS. Upto date information is important
