FOOTBALL!!!!

Why does bloody football need to be on every channel. Why can’t they have a dedicated channel for it instead of messing around with the tv schedules for weeks on end!

Contrary to what the BBC etc would like you to believe, we don’t all love the ‘beautiful’ game, or even like it!

Grown men getting paid millions of pounds to run around after a little ball for 90 minutes and fans (agreed not all) that get all emotional/het up/drunk/aggressive and aren’t happy unless they’ve had a fight over it.

It’s pathetic!! AIBU

YANBU.

I'm so glad my DH feels the same way. I would have no respect for him, otherwise.

wtf

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/06/2026 19:10

I am loving the footy. I am a woman, don’t drink and don’t have fights lol.

You agree with her entirely false comment about how many channels it's on? Are you also living in 1962?

We're not interested in watching the football in our house and have found it remarkably easy to avoid doing so.

No but i wish I was!

I agree with you OP, but were are not in the majority! I hate football so much - ridiculously overpaid men kicking a ball around for 90 minutes does nothing for me and no I don't care whether England win or lose.

Growlybear83 · 18/06/2026 18:15

I hate football with a passion but I don’t begrudge the coverage on main channels for a month once every four years! The same with Wimbledon - I can’t think of anything I would rather watch less than tennis, but it’s two weeks each year, and there are lots and lots of other channels to watch.

LuckyHazelFox · 18/06/2026 18:02

There was always going to be this thread. I can't stand Wimbledon, so I avoid it and don't moan about it being on.

ilovesooty · 18/06/2026 17:45

FlappyDappyDoo · 18/06/2026 16:56

It's on 2 channels.
How many channels are there on freeview now?

It's not even on two channels at the same time. The OP is being petulant.

Baskingintheheat · 18/06/2026 17:12
Biscuit
HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 18/06/2026 17:08

You could always watch Netflix

GreenWheat · 18/06/2026 16:59

Oh yawn. Yes, YABVVVVVU to moan within days of the opening of a major global tournament that happens once every four years. There are people in their 40s who have never had the chance to watch Scotland take part, ditto some of the other smaller nations.

sittingonabeach · 18/06/2026 16:59

My elderly DM who doesn’t have any streaming channels, so her choice is more limited, is still managing to watch other programmes if she doesn’t want to watch the football

AlbertaGeorgia · 18/06/2026 16:58

It’s once every four years, a very large number of people enjoy it, the TV schedule isn’t built around your likes and dislikes, and there are literally hundreds of other channels and streaming options. There’s also an off button on your remote.

FlappyDappyDoo · 18/06/2026 16:56

It's on 2 channels.

Needmorelego · 18/06/2026 16:55

@twiddlingthumbs69 channel 52 on Freeview is showing Hallmark Christmas Movies......🎄

IamaBluebird · 18/06/2026 16:52

You could always switch channels and watch the cricket Op.

Wynter25 · 18/06/2026 16:52

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 18/06/2026 16:37

YABU

I LOVE the Football ⚽
Come on England 😁

Same 😁

Livpool · 18/06/2026 16:51

It’s only on BBC1 and ITV1 and it’s every 4 years. I can’t stand tennis but don’t moan about Wimbledon, which is most of the day every day for 2 weeks.

There are literally hundreds of other channels.

Ablondiebutagoody · 18/06/2026 16:50

Huh? It's occasionally on 2 channels out of a gazillion. Also, it's the World Cup and everybody loves it.

Monty36 · 18/06/2026 16:48

I have never seen a World Cup so extensively advertised on TV. Am amazed so many people have gone to watch it in person too.

Vitrolinsanity · 18/06/2026 16:47

Well done on filling your bingo card about football hate in your OP.

YAB utterly unreasonable, but you already knew that.

Needmorelego · 18/06/2026 16:44

I just checked.
Freeview has approximately 280 channels (some do double up because they are +1 channels).
TWO are showing football.

DappledThings · 18/06/2026 16:41

twiddlingthumbs69 · 18/06/2026 16:33

Thanks, I hadn’t thought of that! 👁️

Thought of what? You have to use the quote option if you want to actually engage with anyone and make any sense.

YABU. I have zero interest in football but I find very easy to ignore. It's not the 80s anymore. You have many options.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/06/2026 16:41

LadyLooo · 18/06/2026 16:37

It's not on every channel though?

It'll be Wimbledon 'messing up' the TV schedule soon enough but that won't be on every channel either.

Exactly. Because it’s also popular.

People like sport. People like lots of other things like Strictly Come Dancing or the Traitors too, and they’re also on at times in the year.
