Furious with DH’s new England flag

Flagissue · 17/06/2026 17:03

NC’d for this. About half the houses on our street put flags up during the big football tournaments. DH put one up with his teams badge on at the weekend, and took delivery of a new flag today. He’s proudly displayed this - it’s a St George’s cross with ‘In Farage We Trust’ printed across the middle 😫

I’ve told him to take it down and that the neighbours will judge but he’s standing firm. Would it be wrong of me to tear it down myself?!

Sounds like a classy area, I must say..

I've looked everywhere for this flag.

I am wondering if the OPs DH had it custom made. Maybe by an affair partner ? I think that's the usual answer for anything unexplained when posted on MN ?

That's if the flag exists at all. I'm doubtful.

YABVU for not posting a link to the seller so real patriots can buy one for themselves.

I'd be finding an excuse to use it in place of toilet paper.

JoyousWriter · 18/06/2026 15:13

I couldn't remain married to someone that dim.

It’s the hypocrisy that people don’t like. Flying the St George’s flag while trying to undermine everything that is good and world renowned about our country. Saying they are ‘patriots’ while peddling fear, hatred and mistrust.

There is hated and division being encouraged on both sides - why exactly do you think that is and WHO do you think is behind it?

People need to start asking questions and thinking critically. Stop believing the shallow messages you see on social media.

I personally found people ripping the flags back down and filming themselves stamping all over them hypocritical also. These people are complaining about supposed hatred and intolerance and don’t see the irony that the country they live in is so tolerant that you’re allowed to film yourself ripping down the flag and jumping all over it without worrying about recourse. I don’t think you’d get away with that in North Korea. I doubt it’d be tolerated in the US either.

@Sskka

Well, it’s not really discretionary when people are shouting “this country is shit” (all the while flying the St. George’s flag).

It’s not about a this or that, or comparing our top ten of what we are proud of. It’s a matter of opinion… Except when there is such blatant hypocrisy.

Maybe they really love their country, feel devastated that (as they see it) it’s in a terrible state, and want certain things to be done to make it better?

I know it probably sounds crazy but I reckon some people actually do think like that.

There's a fair bit of hypocrisy when it comes to analysing the strength and weaknesses of England. Just because somebody is waving a st George flag, doesn't mean they can't have gripes about the county. That's a really bizarre take. Do you apply that logic to every country?

@SeriousFaffing “Flying the St George’s flag while trying to undermine everything that is good and world renowned about our country”

What happens when people disagree as to what is ‘good and world renowned’ about the country though? I mean that must be possible. There can’t be one set of views which are legitimate to hold, and another set which are somehow not.

Well that's when these wonderful critical thinking skills come in handy, which the left allegedly possess.

It's not as straightforward as that. Holding or hoisting the St George flag during the world cup is no different to every other single country that does the same. Outside of football tournaments, Hoisting it on flag poles is not racist and it's not intened to cause alarm or distress. Social media, it can be argued, can send out manipulative messages from both the left and right. Hope not hate being one of the worst platforms for disinformation. They are the opposite of what they are meant to represent.

Flagshaggers - one of the most embarrassing terms led by snobs. Every country, who waves their flag is a flag shagger? Nah, just the English. Pathetic.

Just as well the left don’t have any thoughts on flags, isn’t it? Makes it so much easier to point fingers at the people we don’t like.

Didn’t the flag hanging start when an area in the Midlands was covered in Palestine flags, which was all fine and dandy, until people started putting up England flags because apparently they posed a health and safety risk? But the Palestine flags didn’t?

I personally would prefer no flags hanging anywhere if they’re political statements but you can’t have one rule for one…

Why on earth was my reply deleted? I explained why farage supporters were racist. Surely that is so obvious that it can't be very controversial?

It’s only obvious for those that struggle with understanding logic

  1. All racists are more than likely Farage supporters
  2. Not all Farage supporters are racist
BauhausOfEliott · 18/06/2026 10:16

So are you saying you're perfectly happy to be married to the kind of man who supports Reform, provided he doesn't tell the neighbours?

I'd have thought the real problem here isn't that he wants to put a flag up, but simply that you have married a complete cunt.

Sskka · 18/06/2026 09:57

LakieLady · 18/06/2026 08:50

Unfortunately, the far-right flag shaggers have turned the national flags into a political message in themselves.

Any ‘woke lefties’ is what he said.

I couldn't even be married to someone who talked like that, let alone put up with that flag.

I have just put our flag up. It's just a plain St George's cross. I always put the Union flag up during the Olympics as well. There shouldn't be any political messages on these flags.

Jesus all these racist accusations flying around. I actually believe that @JuliaMaesa may be joking here but not all Farage supporters are racists.

I don't take seriously posts like that because the posters are bigots. Quite ironic. I did wonder when Farage would be linked to the England team so nice little goady thread. 🥱

How do people end up married to people that they have such fundamentally different values from?

Exactly, if DH suddenly decided he wanted to put up this (bonkers sounding) flag, I'd honestly be worried he'd had a bang to the head or something and would be fearing for his sanity! 😁
