Inconsequential but HIGHLY irritating things your DH does

I’m not talking ‘fails to do any housework’ or ‘won’t parent his own kids’ but minor irritations that make you want to scream but you can’t because its so petty. For me

Refuses to use the automatic windscreen wiper. Instead he waits until he has no visibility and then manually flips the wiper on once. In heavy rain he’s doing it every couple of seconds. Just put the bloody auto wipers on!!

Unloads the dishwasher but leaves select things stacked up ‘near’ the cupboard or drawer they live in rather than putting them away. Apparently they are left there to ‘thoroughly dry’.

Rage!!!

My dh insists on waiting for the window wipers to come on. It can be an instant monsoon with no visibility - i crack and shout ' put the wipers on! You cant see!' And he insists on waiting. Then mansplains the tech.

He giggles in bed watching some awful computer bloke testing kit. He has headphones on. Its so fucking annoying, like having deputy dawg in bed next to me.

rogueone · 16/06/2026 22:34

Breathes 😂

Puts a bin bag in the bin without fluffing it and tucking it in nicely, and then just afterwards proceeds to put a load of rubbish in it completely oblivious to the fact that none of it has gone IN the bin bag.

Mine too. Why is it so hard to figure out?

Nurseposter123 · 16/06/2026 22:33

Leaves stuff on top of the dishwasher - only putting it all in towards the end of the day as it's 'more time efficient'

Honestly gives me rage. Love him endlessly but still..

murasaki · 16/06/2026 22:33

Mine's also a sneezer that sounds like Krakatoa going off. I have no idea how it's so loud.

If this includes the bizarre windscreen wipers use, please can you explain why?

AbzMoz · 16/06/2026 22:32

Namechangeforthisdilemma1 · 16/06/2026 21:53

Oh god I think I’m your DH. I can never sneeze once, always a minimum of 5 🫣

Me too!
a lady actually stopped me at the zebra crossing and said I had a truly remarkable sneeze! Baffled/proud was a new emotional combo

Mine does the wiper thing too, it drives me insane! I’m screaming “You can’t see anything!! We’re all going to die!!!” while he flicks the wiper once every forty seconds during a torrential downpour on the motorway.

Yes! DP does this! We are on the fecking motorway, it’s hammering it down and we can’t see a bloody thing! WTAF! 😱

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 16/06/2026 22:31

Tilyoufindyourdream · 16/06/2026 21:50

Loads the dishwasher from front to back! Drives me bonkers!!!

Mine too. Just why?? It's just plain wrong! I always rearrange everything.

blueshoes · 16/06/2026 22:30

When on a motorway and you can see the cars in front slowing down with brake lights on, he lets the car continue at the same speed closing the gap with the car in front and only brakes at what I consider to be the last minute.

Frostynoman · 16/06/2026 22:29

Unloads the dishwasher onto the draining rack (items are dry) and then thinks it’s job done.

SqueakyFromme · 16/06/2026 22:28

mynameiscalypso · 16/06/2026 21:54

This. Plus the incredibly loud and showy yawns he does, particularly on days when he’s had far more sleep than me.

I call those cowshed yawns

Same here 😅

mindutopia · 16/06/2026 22:27

Every morning he makes an espresso and he uses a spoon to scrape out the old espresso grounds from the espresso thingy and then he walks past the sink and puts the spoon covered in old wet espresso grounds down on the counter next to the sink without washing it off - in case, he wants a second espresso, he says! And every morning, I come by and wash the spoon off, wipe down the pile of grounds on the counter and put the nice clean rinsed spoon back next to the sink. It grinds my nuts why he can’t just rinse it off, in the sink that is literally right there! Instead of putting the dirty spoon down on the counter to create a puddle of murky espresso water and a pile of old espresso grounds that I ultimately will have to wipe up.

I love him. He is wonderful in all ways. But this makes me want to choke him. He also has a habit of putting ‘just one thing’ in the wash when I am trying to wash my clothes, which always seems to be trousers or a jumper with pockets stuffed with tissues or some other offensive item that shreds in the wash. Also makes me want to kill him. Otherwise, he’s a legend.

murasaki · 16/06/2026 22:27

Digs spread out of the tub like he's he's mining for gold, rather than scraping along the top. Drives me potty.

SeaToSki · 16/06/2026 22:26

Puts the recycling on the counter top above the bin. All he has to do is open the drawer and drop it in, he's done 90% of the work taking it over there..why not just finish the job? Arrrrg

ChaliceinWonderland · 16/06/2026 22:25

God , all these incompetent men. Thankfully I am single.

Notyouagaindear · 16/06/2026 22:25

Constantly takes baby wipes out of my bag then forgets to replace - eg we went for a day trip on Sunday and I was driving. He took the packet of baby wipes out of my bag to use one on DD’s nose. Later in a cafe toilet I went to grab them to wipe DD’s shitty arse, only to discover he’d left them in the back of the car.

Uses condiments at mealtimes then places them out of everyone’s reach, instead of back in the centre of the table. Then sighs dramatically if asked to pass me the salt/ketchup/whatever.

Sets used spoons on the clean draining board instead of popping in the sink or dishwasher. Also sets frozen raw meat to defrost on the clean draining board.

Shoves all the dirty pots & pans into the already full dishwasher, instead of just washing them quickly in the sink. It causes the top shelf to come off the rollers and apparently he doesn’t know how to fix it, so calls me to do it.

Leopardspota · 16/06/2026 22:25

Mine puts things away when IM STILL USING THEM. he will out the knife and chopping board away into the dishwasher between kids tea prep and kids pudding prep (chopped fruit). My coffee mug will end up I. The dishwasher before I’ve had chance
to have a refill. But does he ever ever wash the cafetière?! Never. Not once. The only thing he leaves by the sink.

My husband is brilliant but his over the top and incredibly dramatic sneezing fits make me want to kill him

Oh God, have you got one of those too? Irritating, isn't it? And he sniffs.

Mine cannot shut drawers behind him, leaves them open just a bit when he's taken out his socks and it drives me mad.

He also has a habit of leaving his shoes neatly side by side (all good) but the wrong way round, and it freaks me out.

He's also strategically incompetent when it comes to loading the dishwasher.

Apart from that, he'll do.

Lol. Mine does the minimal wiper thing too. Says he “can’t see” if he switches them to automatically wipe!?

CaffeineDeficient · 16/06/2026 21:53

Leaves items to 'steep' in the sink, that we don't put in the dishwasher. Just fucking wash them for fucks sake. Also, related to above, then leaves them to 'dry' on the draining board. Highly fucking irritating (to me).

I do the draining board/rack thing.

Madeinsuffolk · 16/06/2026 22:22

another sufferer of a husband who refuses to use the windscreen wipers till we can’t see anything. It’s like an internal challenge I think to discover how close to totally blur we can get.

My husband does the same and it pushes me over the edge! Is it really necessary to make more noise than an airplane taking off
