Honest23 · 16/06/2026 17:53

Who here would honestly happily contribute to George’s education costs?

Reported to be £68000 a year at Eton.

And where do you think they got their money and all the Dutchy of Cornwall lands exactly? A gift from God?

It dates back to 1337. Your point is?
let’s hope it’s protected, rather than grabbed by developers or foreign investors.

Something happened 700 years ago. Doesn't bother me. I hope George has a good education.

OonaStubbs · 16/06/2026 21:40

Do Eton actually charge the royals for their children's education?

Pretty sure Charles and Diana had one bad A level between them, Harry is not academic by his own admission and I seem to recall William got ABC at A level, which isn't bad but would be a disappointment in a selective grammar school.

We have students at our school who come from a disadvantaged background, with parents who have not achieved. So you are saying they are not clever? Just because your parents didn’t bother getting A levels, does not mean you are not extremely clever. Thank goodness we have faith in those students. Just listen to what you are saying.

Idontpostmuch · 16/06/2026 21:39

Can't understand why the OP is getting a hard time over this. Seems a reasonable thread topic to me. I don't think it's costing the public any more than if he went to a cheaper school. His parents will fund it from their budget. Whether this budget is too big is for another thread. Money aside, I don't think it's a good idea. It's time the monarchy moved with the times and stopped following ridiculous traditions. There must be other schools that can provide enough security while providing an experience more in keeping with the real world.

HumberSquid · 16/06/2026 21:38

Fegsf · 16/06/2026 21:34

We aren't paying for it. They are paying for it from their income on the duchy of Cornwall estate.

Literally all of them "aren't that clever...." ? What is your evidence for that? Have you seen all of their qualification grades? I will agree that some are less academic than others but that doesnt mean anything.

My sister was far less academic than me but because she chose a career that suited her abilities she has far outstripped me professionally and financially!

Why? Is there a GoFundMe?

Why isn't this in the correct topic?

So, so many questions

By "correct topic," I assume you mean correct forum?

AIBU is unfortunately a dumping ground that undermines the other forums.

CathyorClaire · 16/06/2026 21:36

Haven't RTFT but it seems Daddy will still get to punt the school run excuse for not doing anything much.

Bit of a result.

AwksBut · 16/06/2026 17:57

I'd rather have an educated future king than an uneducated one tbh
William seems to have done well coming out of Eton
Many PMs are ex-Eton, and we vote for them to run the country

What's the real issue, OP

Not sure that the PMs thing is in its favour. If I ran the school which had produced Cameron and Johnson, I would be trying to keep it quiet.

“Legally, I believe, it's the case that he could take the land away from you”

how? (Legally)

The king owns the land and his ancestors granted it to people who in turn sold it to others...but as I said technically the king can remove you from the land. In modern life this is done by means of compulsory purchases

Fegsf · 16/06/2026 21:35

I wish him all the best when he starts year 9

Whysnothingsimple · 16/06/2026 21:34

I’m not sure how his education is being funded, but if it’s public money then yes I’d much rather my taxes be used to fund the education of our future head of state and to fund his security than most of the stuff the government spunk it on.

Why?

So he can be given a hard time for the pleasure of anti-monarchists.

This.

Dorothyperky · 16/06/2026 21:27

@SanctusInDistress only 5% of people pay inheritance tax. So your point is?
More money is taken from income tax, capital gains tax and stamp duty.

ThisJollyTaupeGuide · 16/06/2026 21:08

I live across the pond where my taxes are being used to remodel a house for a trashy orange man to fantasize that he's Louis XIV, so I don't have a stake, but if given a choice, I'd rather pay someone's school fees.

I would also like to read some articles featuring disappointed social climbers who are sending their kids to Marlborough thinking all the Wales kids would end up there.

You have a completely different political system in the USA , with an executive president .

We will have a figurehead president. No political power.

Can we pin that info somewhere? Who can be arsed to keep correcting the ‘I don’t want president Trump!’ every time that deep misconception is used to defend the current parasites .

BlueLegume · 16/06/2026 21:24

i’m massively derailing here. Prince George cannot help his lineage.

His maternal grandparents may well be paying his fees. They can afford this. Do not assume.

The Rape Gang released today. It highlights vulnerabilities in young people over many years many times relating to families who are complicated and chaotic.@Honest23 If we want to rebuild a better society we need to to look at what makes children feel safe. How on earth would the future King feel safe at a comp. I didn’t and wasn’t.

Pepperlee · 16/06/2026 21:24

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 16/06/2026 19:55

So, where would you like the future King to go to school? This smacks of jealousy. Get a life!

Well some really want him to go to a local comp. Ridiculous in the extreme.

I see the OP has not bothered to come back here 🙄

Lazy journalist or hairy hands?

Chucked the grenade in the building and then did a runner.

Ukisgaslit · 16/06/2026 21:17

lol.

The farmers cannot raise what is being asked , as well YOU know

We are told a tale but we must wait for decades to see the result. Who will be back to check on the trumpeted promises?
That’s the grift.

Anyone reading who wants more information please look up Norman Baker , he’s an ex privy councillor who has had plenty to say on the Duchy rip off

His classic ‘ And what do you do ?’
His latest ‘ Royal Mint , National Debt’

I challenge any remaining royalists to read one.

No thanks.
These far left antagonists are just so dull and boring. Usually hypocritical champagne socialists.
Lots of wealthy farmers round here, and William has said they can stay if they don’t want to buy.
You believe what you want to.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/06/2026 21:15

Well done @Honest23

You have managed a real good score here.

So far we have had hatred for.....

The royals
Benefit claimants
Politicians
Donald Trump
Illegal Immigrants
VAT on private school fees

Pro rage baiting

.....and all from one post 🙄

SanctusInDistress · 16/06/2026 21:22

Dorothyperky · 16/06/2026 20:55

No one is paying for Prince George other than his family. They pay full tax at 45%, that data is freely available.
I am no longer a royalist but I don't like people with blinkered views making up nonsense on social media.
We have access to free education and funded universities. I'm a council house kid who wanted more. I worked hard and made a high end life for me and my family.
The royal family are between a rock and a hard place, don't envy them. It's not a great life.

Except they don’t pay the most important tax of all…..inheritance tax. This is how they amass wealth.

smallglassbottle · 16/06/2026 21:22

BlueLegume · 16/06/2026 20:41

@smallglassbottle what a contemptuous comment. If you are part of any ‘be kind’ group now is the time to address that mantra.

The royals do not choose to be born into the family. For the most part I would say in the current climate they do the job they have no option to do pretty respectfully. Especially Catherine the POW and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh who tolerated some awful media coverage. Can we just not accept they can never win in the eyes of some people.

Be Kind 😂😂😂

No. They're a complete waste of space and poor value for money. And no, I'm not a leftist.
