Who here would honestly happily contribute to George’s education costs?

Reported to be £68000 a year at Eton.

Eh? You do realise that his parents are multi-millionaires and don’t need any help?

Oh dear, citing some of the PMs who went to Eton has to be the school’s worst advertisement surely?

If I have understood correctly, Eton has put behind it the days when connections and cash could win you a place. It seems to be accepted that some former pupils, pompous, entitled and none too bright, have damaged the school's reputation, which is why there is a focus on high academic ability and being a useful citizen.

Mumandcarer80 · 16/06/2026 22:59

You do understand the Royal family have their own income? Not every single one of they're expenses is tax payer funded.

IdaGlossop · 16/06/2026 22:59

hyggetyggedotorg · 16/06/2026 20:11

Surely he won’t have to pay? Won’t wherever the royal children go be swamped by applications from parents desperate for their child to move in the same circles?

Of course his parents will have to pay, and will want to pay so their child doesn't have special status because of a freebie. As for schools being swamped by applications, their children will have to sit entrance exams like every other child. You can't just buy your way in to prestigious schools any longer. It's already far, far too late for any boys who fancy being a contemporary of George.

id be intrested if the general average member of the public could do better ?

Do better at what ?

being king in waiting ? Well if he is anything like his work shy parents I think many of the public could do better

Fruitbatdancer · 16/06/2026 22:57

OP if you had one or a couple of kids at independent schools, you say this was a relative bargain.
give your head a wobble.

I'd rather have an educated future king than an uneducated one tbh
William seems to have done well coming out of Eton
Many PMs are ex-Eton, and we vote for them to run the country

What's the real issue, OP

Cameron? Johnson? What a brilliant job they did.

MulberryBrandy · 16/06/2026 22:55

@38thparallel Presumably they share their views with their children and so imagine the sort of remarks which would be directed at George if he were to go to state school.
However I get that this would give aforementioned posters and others pleasure.

You are forgetting what a tortured soul Charles was after his experience at his public school. Bullying attitudes can happen anywhere. No one wants what you call 'remarks' directed at George. What an unpleasant thought you have had.

And George Orwell...

And my husband, BIL, Uncle and two cousins, and a few very good friends. My DH was chucked out at 15 for being far too interested in LSD and drugs. The rest of them got a lot out of it and are lovely, polite, very well educated men. Even DH sorted himself out in his 20s!

I contribute towards every other child to go to school in this country. If they sent George to state school we would still pay so what’s the difference?

Here is some hard logic in place of prejudice and jealousy.

Others that spring to mind - Darius Guppy, Jeremy Thorpe, Lord Lucan and how about Crown Prince Dipendra of Nepal (who killed about nine members of his family

A poster has gone to the trouble of googling Wrong’uns Who Went to Eton. Another one has said they should all be sterilised.

Jealousy is the thief of joy. HTH

bigfacthunter · 16/06/2026 22:36

I am anti royalist and would love for the lot of them to be sterilised so we could in time rid ourselves of the blight that is our monarchy forever. HOWEVER this kid does need to go to an elite private school. He wouldn’t be safe in a regular one. I’d pay 0.014 pence per year (or whatever it is) to keep a small child safe.

SanctusInDistress · 16/06/2026 21:22

Except they don’t pay the most important tax of all…..inheritance tax. This is how they amass wealth.

IHT is only exempted monarch to monarch. For an example I would cite Margaret's children, they had to sell a lot of her jewellery to pay the tax bill.

I said pre Covid, I’d not judge what she chooses to do with her life just now, but I have to work as my work keeps others employed, cancer or not.

It’s a reflex spelling of my BF name, but I’m sure she wouldn’t be offended, she seems very nice. She’s a nice privileged, well brought up, wealthy woman, doesn’t mean I agree with her position.

And she cannot comment on all the unkind comments written about her……
