George’s education costs

Honest23 · 16/06/2026 17:53

Who here would honestly happily contribute to George’s education costs?

Reported to be £68000 a year at Eton.

I do see that argument for abolishing the monarchy - ie it’s a form of child abuse / golden cage .

But the thing is Harry has shown that it IS possible to leave.
They can leave and make their own way .
Yet they don’t .

I can't believe people here are happy to pay for the education of the "richest woman in the world" (as per Forbes magazine") grandchild.

The grooming is real.

Good thing nobody here will be paying then, isn't it?

I'd rather have an educated future king than an uneducated one tbh
William seems to have done well coming out of Eton
Many PMs are ex-Eton, and we vote for them to run the country

What's the real issue, OP

The real issue here is your
last sentence in your first paragraph.

zingally · 17/06/2026 10:25

Is there a GoFundMe? I'll give the lad a fiver if he needs it.

I feel rather sorry for all 3 of them. Growing up in a gilded cage. And especially in George's case, completely unable to chose a life for himself. His whole existence was set up for him at conception. He's on a pre-set course, on which he has zero choice or input. For all the privilege and luxury, that must be a head-fuck once he's mature enough to realise it.
I hope he gets to properly enjoy his time at school and university (if he choses to go), because it'll be the last true opportunity he gets to do something just for himself.
Charlotte probably won't fare any better. She'll step in to a "Princess Anne role" of endless appearances and obligations.
Louis might possibly have more of a chance of normality. But still unlikely.

@bafta16
Eton? It makes me heave.

Just Eton or all private schools? There are public roads all through the school so you could go and do some booing there.

I also have a 12 year old son and I find the whole thing of berating a child, especially from people who claim to be kind and left wing, extremely troubling. There are a lot of angry sad people around who have clearly not achieved much in life and are trying to find someone else to blame for their anger and failures. Rather than working positively on their own growth.

Also this whole booing and protesting malarkey in London, it has all gone too far. Do not be surprised if people take the piss en masse (both online and in person) and there are bad actors like the Russians/Iranians egging on idiots, if our own Government is eventually forced to curtail the right to protest.

Utter nonsense

You sound very triggered by a peaceful protest.
The Windsors knew the protesters would be there . They chose to parade the children - why?

Were you as angry about the Andrew /Epstein cover up ?

About the institution throwing their weight against Virginia Guifre and calling her a liar to try to shut her up when they had known for decades what Epstein and Andrew were doing ? Children were involved there . And much worse than a few boos

Araminta1003 · 17/06/2026 10:03

I am not a royalist, but I can see the advantage of having a royal family and head of the Church of England. Especially in this day and age where tech giants are far more of a risk.
If anything, the royal family is another layer of protection just like the House of Lords against mass manipulated populism by tech giants trying to take over the world and minds of people lacking critical thinking. Which includes far left republicans.

Ukisgaslit · 17/06/2026 09:59

Fegsf · 17/06/2026 08:31

I would normally have been a fan of the royal family. But thinking about the Andrew thing really just grates me.

There’s more even than the Andrew cover up

Its all cover up after cover up

I haven’t caught up with the thread but I do find it ironic that a thread on ‘education’ is highlighting how , the less you know about how we are governed here in the uk,
the more likely you are to support the current corrupt system .

Can the dwindling band of royalists really just look at a gaudy golden coach or Disneyesque parades and not question what goes on behind the scenes?

( The so called ‘pomp’ is not ancient - it was invented to provide bread and circuses when the population was getting ideas from the French Revolution)

When you see a post stating ‘ I don’t want a trump president here’ you know you are dealing with a lack of information/ education .

Im not blaming those posters - you have to want to seek the truth here and it’s all made very difficult to unravel

Read Norman Baker or watch on YouTube

Andrew Lownie too .

Yes, and how much was known for so long. Andrew has apparently not paid back the £12 million he was loaned to give to Virginia Giuffre. They have also sat on the Epstein/Andrew emails for six years.

The continuing smokescreen, skeletons in the cupboard and continuing secrecy around the finances is what concerns me.

Still questions too about who participated in what now transpires to have been a bit of a whip-round to raise the funds.

I was thinking about the cover-up as well which made me question the whole thing.

I suspect the OP was well aware Mumsnet is full of servile toadies. Interesting to see them in action, rejoicing in unearned privilege and power over their own less worthy children.

I don't think so actually.

I think she intended to haul out the venom but misjudged in that George is still too little for decent people to begrudge him much.

Fegsf · 17/06/2026 08:40

I still think George should get a good education and his parents are paying. The same way Phillip paid for Charles to go to Gordonstoun

And look at your reply. You appear to disagree a lot.

Yes with you, indeed I do. I’m allowed, it’s called a difference of opinion. In a democracy we value counter arguments and discussion, well that’s the concept. Put one’s opinion and win hearts and minds.

I’m not a Royalist. I can’t get my head around how normal humans, can be lauded and given privileges beyond other citizens because their ancestors were the best at war. The bloodline from Divine Right was fractured back in Tudor times and frankly, even had it not, I would question its veracity. The cost to our nation is not my main concern, but the self interest that the ‘deals’ they enjoy have been negotiated with and with it the preservation of their status and wealth, beyond all others. For this they do charity work, and play dress up with their expensive toys. All seems a bit weird to me, why do we value these people when o many others do good work without such advantage, and I’d like an alternative.

You haven’t really offered many counter positions except disagreeing and being rude. That too is your right, but doesn’t seem to add much.

I have nothing against these people personally, but the privilege is real, and I’m not a supporter. They have a great PR machine to maintain this good guy position. When things go wrong - Andrew is a handy example - they quickly close rank to protect themselves and I’m yet to be given any arguments that sway my view that they are simply rich privileged normal people that should be equalised to the position of the rest of us. They’d still be rich, and perhaps wouldn’t get booed in the street.

All very intelligent people
