AIBU to think this was well deserved?

Kate can glower at people as much as she wants but the monarchy is a rotten institution and people are getting more and more annoyed by it

I think they need to take a look in the mirror.

Oona based on your posting history thats rich

Walkyrie · 15/06/2026 23:18

Ditching the monarchy would be a very expensive waste of time. The constitutional disruption would cost ££££ to reform, and the loss of soft power and tourism just doesn’t make it worth it. It would be like Brexit all over again, with no real benefits, a lot of spending and arguing over what was going to happen.

Leave the people who enjoy pomp to enjoy their pomp.

countrylife00 · 15/06/2026 21:10

No they don’t hate everything British. The person I know who is a protestor loved her very posh boarding school, loved the trust fund from her Grandfather, loves all the money from Mummy and Daddy - so terribly British. She also loves looking swampy, the scarf she pretends makes her look like she is from Islamabad and her zero waste lifestyle. Except she has gas central heating, a petrol car and is constantly flying abroad on holiday darling!

Did you mean to post this to me or the person i was quoting

OonaStubbs · 15/06/2026 23:15

Who would Charles pay taxes to? His Majesty's Revenue and Customs?

MulberryBrandy · 15/06/2026 22:43

BrownTroutBluesAgain · 15/06/2026 22:33

Yes
I was referring to the pp on why the rest of us can’t protect our estates

and 🤷‍♀️?

Since they were introduced centuries ago people have had to pay
Each party in power could have got rid of it. None of them did

It’s not party specific but currently
if the poster I tagged wants an answer
she can

Ask Labour

Edited

The Labour government are set on doing something 'specific':

It is committed to bringing forward legislation to reset the Sovereign Grant to a lower level from 2027-28 once Buckingham Palace reservicing works are completed

So the funds could soon be reduced for the first time.

You could boo all you like, what do you think it would actually achieve? I think you will find the answer is - nothing.

I wouldn’t be booing a family and their children like this

I’ll happily boo murderers though
Theres a huge difference

ZenNudist · 15/06/2026 22:40

I went to this! By accident. But it was very enjoyable. Good to see the king and his grandkids and Kate. The protesters got royally booed by the crowd!

Perhaps a lot of pent up anger and in this case resentment
but many demonstrations are backed up by a lot of passion

I would happily boo the fox hunting brigade for example

Would you accept people shouting abuse at your children? Why should she then ?

I wouldn't. But I wouldn't ever subject my children to that sort of exposure. I also would never send them to boarding school. Because I believe it will damage them.
Anyone looking at the RF must see how messed up they all are. Maybe its time to break the cycle of abuse, neglect and exposure.

Giantmarshmallowbum · 15/06/2026 22:23

Trust are now taxed in a way they never were, so really they mitigate very little.

Agree they do have ongoing tax charges which you need to pay
much the same as declaring cgtax year on year

No IHT is better ….for anyone that is

BrownTroutBluesAgain · 15/06/2026 22:26

SquirrelGG · 15/06/2026 22:21

Yep, people who boo anyone really aren't worthy of being indulged. They tend to be very boring people in my experience, with nary a brain cell between them.

The RF were always exempt on taxes charged at death as far back as the 17th century

Its really not as party specific as you may think

Even pre Major
when they were introduced in the 17th century and since ( I think to pay for wars more than likely ) the RF never paid any sort of capital transfer taxes so it certainly wasn’t a new concept at all introduced by Major ( just in case snyone is attempting a dig here at a particular political party )

The reason given in Majors day was

‘the reigning monarch is legally exempt from paying Inheritance Tax (IHT) on both Crown and private estates to avoid wealth erosion over generations. Other family members are subject to IHT,’

There wasn’t any bending of the rules. The Government of the time felt the RF status in the world would be diminished over time if they didn’t have the means to present a certain royal image.
I recall the debates at the time

Setting up trusts of course is one way to avoid IHT for everyone
or just stop taxing death

Charles had an exemption arranged by the Conservative PM, John Major.

I know someone who stands there booing.
She is also part of the Stop Oil Brigade and Palestine Action Group… and could Moan for England. If you were next to her at a party you would be getting the next taxi home.

IHT is a bill on the deceased estate not on those who inherit
So the Queens estate didn’t pay IHT
The King isn’t dead yet. So once again my comment was accurate

The reason that there is no need to pay IHT here is due to the exemption introduced in 1993 by the Major government. I would guess that the way things are passed down takes full advantage of this, but we will never know, since the wills are secret. It is also worth noting that the Sovereign to Sovereign rule was applied on the Queen Mothers estate, even though she was not the Sovereign. Its a nice little game of protect the wealth at all cost and hide to amount from the public and bend the rules as much as you can - or lobby the government to change the law in your favour.

What a horrible person you must be to characterise a woman annoyed at her children being verbally abused as glowering.

She had every right to be peeved at spiteful people upsetting kids.

And say you get rid of the monarchy, you just end up with the likes of Trump and the Kardashians.

MulberryBrandy · 15/06/2026 22:07

Giantmarshmallowbum · 15/06/2026 21:48

Well labour would be closer to abolishing the royals than the other lot!

They get a lot of breaks because they made the rules, just like old trusts, no one can do that now.

I am indeed sure if that because my post clearly said
currently
Im not psychic but there’s no doubt the current younger age groups aren’t keen on the RF

( Approximately 38% to 52% of young adults (aged 18–24) in the UK)

IHT is a bill on the deceased estate not on those who inherit

Interesting bit about the RF mistress and wills though 😆

Edited

You know what I meant, whomever pays, there wouldn’t be as much now if it had 40% removed every generation.

They get tax breaks that rest of us don’t. I can’t see any divine right to that.

I'm sure the kids don't give a flying fuck and probably laugh about it over their banquet that evening, ripping the shit out of the disgusting peasants who dare look upon them.

You sound like a 14 year old.

katedan · 15/06/2026 21:50

I dont think the children should be on parade and being driven around in carriges, they would then not be expised to it. Say what you like for Harry but he has protected his children from this patomime.
