Trooping the colour booing

AIBU to think this was well deserved?

Kate can glower at people as much as she wants but the monarchy is a rotten institution and people are getting more and more annoyed by it

Do you think kids don't get bullied in private school?

I never said they didn’t. Read my post for the sort of bullying George would receive at s state school. Jeering at people for being posh is cowardly and pointless but it doesn’t stop people doing it.
If you haven’t seen it on mumsnet you can’t have been around long.

A state school. Genuinely, a state school, like politicians do.

My God, can you imagine the bullying he’d get.
Have you read the comments on here - and elsewhere - about how ghastly the monarchy, why don’t they just go, the Russian and French revolutionaries had the right idea etc.
Children would hear their parents talking like that and take it out on George.
Or maybe you think a bit of bullying would do him good and take him down a peg or two.

Do you think kids don't get bullied in private school?

Believe me, often the way kids treat each other in such places of privilege is far, far worse than a typical grammar school.

The children arguably benefit in that they are very unlikely to ever be in the position of lacking basic needs, material things, opportunities, and even what most would consider luxuries (look at Andrew, for example) - but that shouldn't be a benchmark as no child and no human should lack access to those things. Their perceived "privilege" only makes sense because we live in a society where others are intentionally, structurally, and systemically underprivileged. That aside, something about the lifelong, inescapable Royal fishbowl makes their situation different from just rich kids or celeb kids in general.

What's weird is that just in terms of what people might call privilege, the royal family are not really the ones that most affect regular people's lives.

Those would be billionaires in business and government.

They aren't particularly better examples of being born with a silver spoon in their mouths, there are all kinds of children born to fabulously wealthy parents around the world who will inherit not only money but political power.

They aren't particularly examples of people living a soft life, there are plenty of kids of wealthy people and celebs and such who will never work a day in their lives if they don't want to. (I always think of that stupid show with Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton which ages me, but you get the drift.)

The money that supports these people all comes from "the people" as well. But there isn't even a pretence that they owe the public service, or that they are morally obligated to stop throwing their political weight around (looking at you Bill Gates...)

Maintaining the status quo is what has happened for a very long time. People have quite rightly sought to question this at times. Why I raised the subject of the suffragettes.

I don't think the RF looked comfortable in their gilded carriages anyway, nothing to do with a protest. I feel they shouldn't have to do this - especially involving children. What I do firmly support is free expression and peaceful protest. There has been very valid questioning of Andrew by Republic and Led By Donkeys - they must be able to do this in a democracy?

Edited

The questioning of Andrew is completely different. Of course people can protest about the Royal Family if they want to but there's a time and a place. Jeering and booing at young children is such crass behavior.

Thousands of people love to go and see the Royals, it's a lovely day out, people spend money so good for businesses and everyone has a nice time. Why the need to ruin someone else's day because they don't have the same opinion as you. They're not changing anything by booing and jeering.

This. If you don't like the Royal Family then just stay away. Fed up of people thinking they have the right to spoil others enjoyment.

I was trying to be sarcastic, obviously failed miserably!

Oh sorry, there are so many supporters on here I took it at face value. Well then I agree, they definitely feel it’s a price worth paying - it’s mainly easy work, if a little dull and intrusive!

MrsShawnHatosy · 17/06/2026 09:41

Giantmarshmallowbum · 17/06/2026 09:39

Really? I’m not sure I agree. They would never be fully private, but they def have a deal with the devil, they def feed into the exposure. Other royal families manage a lighter touch.

People have posted links with actual facts about the number of people living in food poverty.

But obviously feel free to continue believing only what you can see in your vicinity and completely ignore anything outside of your immediate view.

I live in an area of Bradford that's been described as 'deprived'. The kids near me look well fed and healthy. I've never seen a starving chlid in real life because I'd do something about it.How many 'starving' kids live near you? This emotive language was BPs catchphrase when bringing in breakfast clubs. It's misleading and over emotive language.

Giantmarshmallowbum · 17/06/2026 09:39

MrsShawnHatosy · 17/06/2026 09:00

Yes I’m sure if the Royals were given the opportunity to give it all up and go and live quiet, private lives earning their own living they would jump at it.

italianlondongirl · 17/06/2026 09:36

Where’s your source for this?

They certainly marched in coronation year to raise awareness but it was the week before the actual coronation

Do you think what a shame the suffragettes ever turned up and spoilt it ?

MrsShawnHatosy · 17/06/2026 09:00

Isitevensummer · 16/06/2026 21:13

Absolutely agree. I said upthread that I dont feel royal life is fair to the people within it either - you can see the damage it does. I guess it is a blessing if the occupants of the positions are a bit thick and cant imagine any other way of life - for someone with a lively brain, it must be horrendous.

Who are the booers and why are they booing? Trooping the Colour is on one of our big traditions, attracting big crowds. Anyone who is not happy with it is free to fuck off

A friend had a knock on the door there was a policeman and the head of our local posh boarding school. One of their pupils had escaped and was hiding under her DDs bed.

And there are calls to cut benefits further because people are apparently freeloading in massive numbers. At least Labour removed the 2 child benefit cap which was hugely criticised and will, alone cost more than the RF does.
I can understand the issues people have with the Royal family, but concentrating on the (comparatively) small amount they/the parade costs rather than putting energy into counteracting the ongoing trend to demonise benefits claimants seems counterproductive to me.

Pepperlee · 17/06/2026 07:25

Oh FFS. Where are these starving kids? And if you find one then report the parents straight away. Are they wandering the streets like urchins begging for food?

The wealth is unpalatable.

But it’s the parading through the street in solid gold carriages while children starve that I can’t stand

MrSchubertWhiskers · 17/06/2026 07:02

I agree children should be protected but hearing "not my king" and "boo" is hardly abuse, is it?

celticnations · 17/06/2026 01:01

That's a shame on the weans.

Adults, aye but not kiddies.

EvieBB · 16/06/2026 22:53

ERthree · 15/06/2026 11:39

Would you accept people shouting abuse at your children? Why should she then ?

This!
