Trooping the colour booing

AIBU to think this was well deserved?

Kate can glower at people as much as she wants but the monarchy is a rotten institution and people are getting more and more annoyed by it

Going and booing at an event achieves nothing. There are things you can do with your time that make a real difference - that isn't one of them.

The monarchy have brought a huge amount of money into this country. Much more than they've cost us. They employ a huge number of people. Yes, there are problems. But let's hope Andrew is a precedent of the bad apples getting what they deserve.

The royals are incredibly hard working, and although they get to attend posh events etc, they actually have very little choice with what they do with their lives. Those children are not privileged, they have no choices at all. They wear what they're told, do what they're told. George is about to be sent away to school. It's awful.

Who are the booers and why are they booing? Trooping the Colour is on one of our big traditions, attracting big crowds. Anyone who is not happy with it is free to fuck off

Exactly. OK, it's nominally the monarch's birthday parade, but it's so much about the serving soldiers and it's an incredible spectacle with superb music, horse choreography, marching in formation and general national celebration.

It's a phenomenal performance by any standards and is shown across the world. If anyone told me how much tax I pay towards the monarchy I'd say the T the C is ample reward from my pov! Compare it to a big outdoor event or theatre trip - how much does going to those cost?

I think the booers are stupid, philistine and just an embarrassment to themselves.

I'm anti monarchy, but booing children is a dick move. Not surprised Kate looked annoyed, I'd be very pissed off and protective if someone was verbally abusive to my children, especially if those children had no say in what they have been born into. Good for her for not pretending to just accept it.

Yep this. There are opportunities and appropriate times and ways to voice your dissent. Booing children who have no say and no control is absolutely a dick move.

There is a massive stretch between living in poverty and “starving”. I technically lived “in poverty” for quite a few years. My kids were well fed. Your argument loses credibility when you overstretch with the hyperbole. And do you think President Farage would reduce child poverty?

Your individual experience speaks for nobody else.

And the 3.8 million facing food insecurity and hunger?

Where have I said I support Farage? It’s fair to say that if I don’t like the royals, I’m also opposed to his views.

OP has really got the bit between her teeth today! I don't think any Royal supporters will persuade her otherwise. I can't imagine being so wound up and jealous because other people have more money than me! I'm not sure what on earth Grenfell has to do with it! Is she suggesting that any date on which something unpleasant/tragic occurred in this country should be avoided in case it clashes with a Royal event???

Yes, those of us who are morally opposed to the monarchy are just jealous, hey?

I pointed out the absolute irony of this gross display of wealth happening on the anniversary of the Grenfell disaster because it just shows how far gone this country is. Grenfell was a disaster that affected the poorest in society. The victims are still fighting for justice and the anniversary was largely ignored, while the billionaire king and his family drive around central London in gold carriages and expect the masses to fawn over them.

Hyperbole. Children don’t “starve” in this country. You are lacking credibility with such nonsense.

Actually, you discredit yourself by not researching the scale of food poverty affecting UK children. Here's a recent starting point. Go away and do some reading BBC News - Record 9.3 million facing hunger, says charity

Record 9.3m face hunger and hardship in UK - anti-poverty charity

This is one million more than five years ago, Trussell said in a new report.

I really don't think the children benefit at all. Their lives are all mapped out before they are even born. They don't get any real choices about their life. Everyone knows who they are, they have no freedom, every day life is mapped out with security they carnt just decide for example to visit a friends house. I wouldn't want to wish being born royal on any child.

As opposed to someone born in poverty with poor quality health care and schools and few financial opportunities. Reckon they're as mapped out as much tbh

4.5 million children live in poverty in this country. 3.1 million of those live in deep poverty.

I don’t think King Charles is very popular, and I heard there were chants of “Not my King”.

I must say, I’m not a fan of King Charles.

As an aside, I think they need a rethink of some of the people they are handing awards too. Too many overpaid sportsmen and women for example. And not enough to ordinary people who do good in the community, like Maggie Oliver. I think it’s a travesty she’s not been given a state honour.

I think they need a complete overhaul, but I don’t think they’d be willing to commit to that. I was in denmark recently and completely baffled by how easy access their monarchy is. You can walk right up to their palaces, which are smaller than our stately homes. None of this rubbish, they’re respected for their no nonsense approach.

I can’t see the narcissists in our royal family agreeing to that though!

You are deluded if you think children aren't going hungry in this country. I suppose it's how you define 'starve' but there are certainly children who don't have enough food.

JacknDiane · 15/06/2026 13:14

I cant understand how they cant see how unfair and outdated it is to have people sitting in a horse drawn carriage parading by with immense wealth and privilege and we are meant to respect that.
All because Kate married William.

44% of all children living in poverty are living in a household where someone is disabled. 72% of poor children live in working families. Poor families have fallen deeper into poverty.

What and then have an elected President? We would have had President Boris Johnson and President Farage in that case. No, I’d rather a benevolent Monarchy than a Trumpian nightmare.

Anything is better than billionaires presiding over us and parading their wealth through the streets of the capital.

Yeah you know what? I am.

I’m bitter and angry that while children starve in this country these little sit on a pile of billions for absolutely no good reason, other than some people deciding centuries ago that they had a god given right to preside over us. I’m angry that Kate dares to sneer at people for expressing their opinion while she’s sat in a gold carriage in an outfit that cost more than most people’s monthly salaries.

What are they doing with their wealth though, I wonder. Are they just accumulating more, and more, because that does not sit right with me, all the while being tax payer funded.

Yes, they just amass more and more.

Charles is now a billionaire. When he dies, William will inherit that tax free. And then George will inherit William’s fortune. It is sickening.

You won't be watching the ostentatious order of the garter then? All those knights and ladies being to blame for children starving eh.

What a weird comment

Do you think this is some sort of “gotcha”? I think that’s vile too, and the entire system is a joke. Rich people being given medals by more rich people.

The fact the TTC happened on the anniversary of the Grenfell fire is pretty on the nose too.

Well, to be fair, there a significant debate about revisiting Brexit, so think this argument doesn't hold water. Los a thing they did back then are now abolished and rightly so.

And actually the Republicans ended up going the whole hog in the 1640s, resulting in the execution of Charles I in '49. A better comparison would haven been the Restoration in 1660.
