the fact it gives a single person the power to buy political power

People need leaders @Whatwerewetalkingabout

Basically in a world where children starve to death through poverty and there is even extreme poverty and deprivation in his own adopted first world country, billionaires and trillionaires should not be permitted to exist, they should be taxed and asset stripped out of existence, they can get by as mere multi millionaires.

We as a human race need to get our bloody skulls around the fact that noone should starve to death in a world of plenty, the world shouldn't burn because some people want to overstuff their already humoungous wallets! After everyone's basic needs are met then we can discuss having billionaires.

Also I do not like the fact it gives a single person the power to buy political power and propaganda tools to prop up their own existence at the expense of humanity. (For example Musk's climate change credentials are absolute greenwashed BS and he literally bankrolls some of the most dangerous, fascist political parties on Earth)

No, I’m saying maybe it’s time for other countries to step up. Most countries give barely anything in foreign aid, yet a country who donates billions is slated because they reduce their contribution? Maybe they’re just fed up of picking up the slack for those countries who prioritise other stuff, like increased Welfare for the feckless who wouldn’t know real poverty if it hit them on the head. I don’t think the UK btw should increase foreign aid, but just putting into context that different countries have different priorities, and as we are currently struggling to raise funds to defend our country, I’m not sure it would go down well with the public to send money abroad..

You think people in developed western nations don't know real poverty ?

Question: do you think Musk's Doge did the right thing with USAID? Considering the deaths it caused. Hundreds of thousands, mostly children.

Do you think a good person could live with that on their concience?

So you're defending the needless deaths of children.

Is this really how you want to spend your time?

It’s just all on paper though isn’t it?! I’m sure when the AI bubble and all the hype bursts he’ll be worth less. That’s said, I doubt he’s having to switch his shop to Lidl!

There's a difference between racism and commenting on the fact that 1 in 5 people in England are not English

Livelovebehappy · 13/06/2026 00:28

Over £30billion contributed via USAID in 2025. Which is still a lot more money compared to contributions to foreign aid made by other wealthy countries.

So you're defending the needless deaths of children.

Nah, he won't.

He will just spaff it all into the space race

And? Your point being?

The USAID cuts championed by Musk have caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. And you're trying to deflect from that. Why?

Most people living in poverty (and I mean real poverty, not someone in the UK who might have to forego ‘wants’ and not ‘needs’) live in countries where their regimes keep the countries resources/finances to themselves, and place their people into poverty.

Just keep licking his boots.

He's a vile wanker who is pushing white supremacy on Twitter.

He's a pathetic joke of a man. A man with almost unlimited riches on a world blighted by poverty. Poverty he could alleviate without affecting his own lifestyle at all.

He's a waste of skin and dna

The usual MN jealousy when someone does well. As a PP pointed out he was rich and a lot of people would just retire and have fun but he chooses to work most days and have innovative ideas and he employs lots of people too. He might donate to charity but not overtly. He has 14 children to pass his wealth on to.

It's not an issue that he's "done well" but he's pushed racist shit on Twitter like the great replacement theory, he's promoting vile hatred on it.

He's made a fortune and using it push a horrific agenda.

He's a blight upon humanity. Look at how his Doge initiative has directly caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, mostly children, by decimating USAID

Is it?

Back in 1999 at the height of the sitcom bubble Elon Musk made $22 million by selling the he and his brother company founded in 1995.

Now most people would probably bank the $22 million and not work again. But he risked it to set up a new company X.com in 1999 which then merged with PayPal and then sold to eBay in 2002.

Then in 2002 he founded SpaceX the sale of which today has made him a trillionaire.

So yes he could have just retired with his original $22 million but what makes him different to the rest of us is that it's not just about the money it's about new businesses, developing new products and pushing the frontiers of technology.

On that basis he should be applauded for becoming the first trillionaire.

It’s a fair point.

But when you see him scuttling round the oval office and that he wants to implant everyone’s brains with chips I rather quickly return to ‘ obscene’

Bill Gates is an innovator and an entrepreneur who made many, many billions. He chose to give back through his foundation.

So have many others.

I cannot see any evidence or plans to use his fortune to the benefit of humanity and our planet.

Edited

Like what evidence would you like to see? Maybe he chooses not to be crass or virtue signal, and donates money privately. He doesn’t have to make it public. It’s no-one else’s business. He’s made the money himself. Doesn’t owe anyone a commentary of what he does with it.

What achievements? He's an investor not an inventor. He's not an idiot and has invested his money wisely. Much easier to do when your born with a silver spoon in your mouth.

He is socially engineering the UK population into an uprising against the government by making random three word comments on Twitter

1dayatatime · 12/06/2026 23:02

Just because you cannot see any evidence that Musk uses his fortune to the benefit of humanity or the planet doesn't mean it's not happening, it's just shows that you are uninformed:

Perhaps the difference is that Musk doesn't seek publicity for his charitable donations/ foundations.

Because we all agree he is.

Money, especially now is made up by humans. If we stopped pretending it would stop existing.

It is pretty interesting.

I knew it wouldn't take long before people started defending him and saying what a great innovator and business man he is.

No one should have that much money, it's pure greed and anyone with a conscience wouldn't want it.

And do what with it? Give it to the third world country’s leaders to stuff in their back pockets? Give it to the feckless?

Livelovebehappy · 13/06/2026 00:00

Good for him. And how do any of us know whether he gives very generously to charities? We don’t. So who are we to judge?

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 12/06/2026 23:53

In the same way as I treasure my anonymity in being a nobody - the fact that there isn't anybody outside of my small circle of friends and family who could care less where I go, what I say, do, wear or buy - I value the fact that I will never suffer the same problem that most billionaires (let alone trillionaires) do: the anxiety about how not to lose it and the frightened belief that, however much there is, I've never got enough.
