My sister said no

Happy to be told i am being unreasonable. Ive had a bad day so not in the best of moods. Ill explain the situation and a bit of background about my Dsis.

So me and my DS collect pokemon. I collected as a child and so did Dsis. The cards were stored in our DM loft. I do t remember how I got much cards if DM gave them to me or I asked to get them. I dont know if Dsis went in the loft first. What I do know is that I don't have all the cards I know I had and pretty certain Dsis has them. I cant prove it though.
Anyway, it's DS birthday coming up and she has tons of original cards. She doesnt collect and doesnt really care much about them. I asked if a could buy a few from her for DS for his birthday.
She has said no she wants them. I asked why since she doesnt collect. She hasn't responded. I think its so she can sell them all for money.

Now for some background.
Ive gifted things to her in the past I.e furniture for my nephews. It was expensive stuff but as shes my sister and they are my nephews I said dw. Even though I was a struggling single parent and she was not and quite comfortable. I could have done with the money but it wasnt about money to me. I then found out to tried to sell it all to make a profile from my generosity. So for context that is the type of person she is. There have been other things too.

Aibu to be angry at her for not even selling us a couple of cards out of her hundreds (even which I think some are mine anyway) for her nephew. I was willing to pay a bit for the cards too.

I’ve had similar with a sibling years ago. I had a distinct toy from my childhood , unlike all the other toys in my parents house for my DC and the subsequent grandchildren to play with this one was always put away safely. Bizarrely I saw some on eBay looking for something for my DC and realised it’s a collectors one , nothing expensive but reminded me. I then wasn’t sure where it actually was so asked my parent who told me my sibling had taken it and sold it.

I was upset as it was the only toy that was just mine bought for my birthday before my siblings appeared and told my parent that but didn’t say anything to anyone else. It all seemed a little weird tbh.

A few years later I was at parents again and in a box was the said toy for me to take home with me. No idea how or what had occurred plus I think it’s slightly different than mine actually was.

I have noticed since then all our kids toys that were passed on to the grandkids seem to not be at my parents anymore. There are toys for the younger ones but these are more recent so I assume another sibling has gone through and taken them.

I am estranged from all of my siblings nowadays so all these weird little things go on without me knowing why.

Yea i just feel like I dont want to talk to her anymore. This is just 1 thing but shes done so many other things.

£1000 for a set is for mint condition, limited editions etc.

You can get used joblot cards for pennies on Ebay

Or, my DS collects and he just paid £14 for 60 cards from Tesco

Just source elsewhere!

These are base set vintage cards that are hard to got hold of. They also are a personal collection. I gave my vintage i had to my son hence wanting to get him a couple more for his birthday to put in his folder he has.

I think its the fact that my sister has no interest in actually collecting and appreciating them as well.

She sounds grabby so has probably already sold them a while ago. I'd not bother with her is she's not very sisterly with you in general.

She used to not be too bad. There has always been dramas with her but recently shes been very self centred and its like the world owes her something and revolves around her. Its been quite difficult to have a relationship with her and I have backed off alot from it as its not good for my mental health.

If there's any more of your stuff at your mum's please go and get it. Don't make her store it for ever.

Coconutter24 · 11/06/2026 18:37

Have you asked your mum where your cards from her left went?
Tbh you say you saw a pack of card for £1000 so surely you can understand why she’s not willing to hand them over to a child if they can earn so much

icannotlivelaughloveintheseconditions · 11/06/2026 18:31

You need to match her energy. Stop doing things to help her she doesn’t appreciate it or deserve it.

Ibi · 11/06/2026 18:26

You know you’re allowed to say no to her too? If she came on here saying that her sister wanted her to sell Pokémon cards to her at a reduced price (I’m assuming that’s the case or you’d just buy them for market price), I think most people would say that she wouldn’t be unreasonable to say no (like you’re not unreasonable to ask).

Firefly100 · 11/06/2026 18:26

I don't think there is anything you can do about it now but please remember this going forwards. Next time she wants something it is 'no'. Don't even offer to sell what she wants to her at market price as it will just create more arguments. She can source what she needs elsewhere and you can sell your stuff for profit.
I'd go visit your mum's loft soon and take all your childhood belongings before she pilfers more.

Tableforjoan · 11/06/2026 18:23

Well you’ll never prove who had what and your mother let her have what she’s got.

You asked she said no. That’s all there is to it.

I wouldn’t sell mine either to anyone. That’s a pension 😂

Iyamnotayam · 11/06/2026 15:48

Being angry with her is a waste of energy. Just match her energy and if she ever asks you for anything just say "No."

I know this is a wake up call I needed. Shes so quickly to ask me for things. She asked me for a spare phone literally a few days ago. I dont have one so did say no sorry but she just uses me. Shes never there for me emotionally either, always have to listen to her dramas.
Im just so done with her now.
I know this may seem trivial to some but its an accumulation if lots of things I guess.

Honestly, you both sound like you need to grow up a bit. She doesn’t want to give them to yours move on.

what would she say if you told her to send you your half of the collection?

She would say no.
I had asked her and she denied any were mine

Most on here won’t get how hard it is to buy Pokemon cards and how scalpers have ruined the hobby. I understand you’re annoyed but it’s up to her really and yes she probably just wants a profit off them.

Yes exactly. People saying just buy off someone else. To buy an original set of cards from the 90s is crazy amounts of money! I saw a pack for close to £1000. Plus some cards she has id find it really hard to find or scalpers would charge me stupid amounts.
I guess I thought out of goodwill she would give up a few cards to her nephew for some money i was willing to offer. I also dont have much money so thought she would be kind and say yea ok out of the hundreds i have you can have a few. But no she is selfish.

I see on here all the time about parents wills etc. I just know years in the future I will probably be writing on here about how my sister is trying to take things. She is that kind of person. The fact im her sister and have been kind to her means nothing.

You asked. She said no. I can’t see the issue

OriginalUsername2 · 11/06/2026 15:54

Tell her some of them were yours anyway. She might have sold them already 😬

so just roll over and let her sister have her cards with no fight. Okay, if that is how the OP wants to manage it.
Personally with my sister I would just go and shove her over and take my cards. But then again we have a good relationship and she isn't a thieving twat.
That I know of.

illuminating.

I meant it more in the sense that she puts it to her as a direct question. If she says no then you can challenge her, at least it opens up the opportunity of a conversation.
But if her sister has half the communication skills you have then maybe you are right and she shouldn't bother.

Ponderingwindow · 11/06/2026 15:45

I wouldn’t have offered to buy them. If she has your childhood cards, I would just say when is a good time to meet up to sort the cards so we can each have our portion.

this does remind me, I really should put my hands on DD’s old set. With the way the market is at the moment, it might generate a bit of extra cash for pocket money at university.
