To not support England?!

Live and work in England. Not English. My team didn’t qualify for the World Cup so I’m supporting Scotland! Lobe a plucky underdog, have some Scots heritage ( and some English to be fair) plus I NEVER support English sports teams. EVER.
Football has inevitably come up in the office and several colleagues are generally pissed off that I’m not supporting England, insist I should be etc etc. Stupidly I mentioned that I never support England … did not gone down well.
If you live here then you should etc etc

YANBU - support who you like!
YABU - you ingrate, you live in the country you should support the national team.

Wow. The level of venom this morning against the England team for their own ‘fans’ - doesn’t take much for them to sense blood in the water and go for it. Our team chats are livid.

That said, I see scant evidence of bigotry on the OP's part either, just a lot of entitled whining and nativism from England fans.

If you were in the US and saw someone wearing cowboy style attire, you'd probably think that they look American, not Welsh, even if not all Americans dress like that.

If someone "hates the English" then yeah - that's bigotry.

If someone wants a perceived rival sporting team to do badly, that's a normal part of sports fandom, whether we're talking national teams or clubs.

Do you think that, for example, Manchester United fans wanting Manchester City to lose are "bigots"?

Anyways, our new boss has taken the heat off me by saying the same! Despite looking/ sounding English, living in England, having children born in England… he’s Anyone But England because he’s Welsh.
Which seems to be more of an affront than someone of my nationality not supporting England 🤣
