To not support England?!

Live and work in England. Not English. My team didn’t qualify for the World Cup so I’m supporting Scotland! Lobe a plucky underdog, have some Scots heritage ( and some English to be fair) plus I NEVER support English sports teams. EVER.
Football has inevitably come up in the office and several colleagues are generally pissed off that I’m not supporting England, insist I should be etc etc. Stupidly I mentioned that I never support England … did not gone down well.
If you live here then you should etc etc

YANBU - support who you like!
YABU - you ingrate, you live in the country you should support the national team.

Born in England, live in England. Will not be supporting England. I’m petty and bitter, I support a premier league team and I cannot switch off my hatred towards some of the other PL teams players. It is what it is 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m just going to enjoy the World Cup and if I was going to choose anyone to ‘support’ it would be Portugal as we holiday there twice a year and I love the place.

I wont be following it.

When I lived in Spain, I cheered them on and had a great night when they won. But, I still supported England throughtout.

I live in Ireland now, but would still support England - I'd keep that v 🤫 though😂

Growing up in England, if England wasn’t playing we’d support another British team - Wales, Scotland etc. To be honest I’m not a big sports fan anyway, but I’ve always found the ‘anyone but England’ sentiment, even in jest, to be utterly tedious.

Isn't it just. Claim to hate England.
Yet want to live here 😕

Why did you have to announce “I NEVER support England” etc.

I lived in Australia for 5 years when I was younger and while I supported England in sporting events, if they weren’t playing I would support Australia but I certainly wouldn’t have announced to Australians that I would never ever support them etc.

Why do you choose to live here and then actively try to put peoples backs up. It’s weird

I am English. I would be pleased if they won and would watch them with friends, but I have not supported the football team in a tournament since Andy Cole was left out of the squad in 1998 and have instead supported the Netherlands.

Just say you've Scots background so that's your team. Surely there's plenty of people supporting Scotland?

I kind of want them to do really well as they rarely seem to get through. I'll watch the England games and wish them well too. But I'm not exactly a hardcore England fan. I think a lot of people know that the best footballers in the UK leagues are often not British.

Probably in response to the weird over-zealousness so many england fans adopt. Or actually, more likely those who are only fans every couple of years for the major tournaments but could tell you little to nothing about most of the players in the squad.
