To not support England?!

But why live in a country you feel such disdain for? It makes no sense.

I'm Scottish and had a summer job in Lincolnshire during the 2006 World Cup, so I was living down there too. I proudly wore a Scotland Tshirt in amongst all the English flags. It didn't matter that Scotland hadn't qualified, hell would have frozen over before I supported England!

I supported Spain last time. My husband was aghast.

Support whoever you like, but you sound a bit obnoxious.

Yes, it's rude to live in a country and announce to your colleagues that you support any country but the one you live in. You would only get away with that if you lived in a middle class bubble. Most ordinary English people would take a dim view.

There are plenty of folk who flock to England and can't stand England. I find that weird tbh and a wind up. There are enough folk who flock here to use and abuse our country who have the audacity to get offended by our England flag. You move here and don't support England is one of many users in this country. You do you. Don't rub our noses in it.

You live in England but support any team but England and you have told your colleagues this. Unsurprisingly they are irritated. Nowhere else in the world would this be OK.

You are entitled to support who you like! Perhaps you should tell your work colleagues what they should wear or where they should go on holiday and see how they like it 😀

Possibly! I remember reading that some people from the Spanish armada got washed up on the Scottish coastline and intermingled with the locals.

Your colleagues are weird. I lived in Oz and didn’t support Australia in the ashes or any sporting tournaments (well if they were playing against England). I had one colleague who found it weird but so what.

And not a single Irish person I know living in England supports England!

Support who you like. Can't believe how many people have said you should support where you live. English and yet we support another country we have links with. I dont feel it makes me any less English.. and not sure with the way England is at the moment that I am proud to be so :(

I'm English but live in Wales, racist generally and insular people, sadly. I never understand how people support English clubs, their players etc. yet are so hostile to the English team. You don't have to support any team but don't be so antagonist against England. They're in the World Cup after all.

Mine are hazel. I just have Irish/Scottish looks but I think we may have some Spanish in us (black Irish?) as my eldest son has black, curly hair. Could also be Italian mind. 😊

My boys are the polar opposites of each other, one dark curly hair, brown eyes and the other straight blonde hair and blue eyes but they weirdly still look like each other.

One thing they both have inherited is really thick hair. You should see my husband if he goes two weeks without a haircut. He's like a member of the hair bear bunch. 😂

It is! I once had a woman from Malta ask me if I was Spanish, and when I explained I was part Italian she said she thought I looked Mediterranean, which I took as a compliment. (One of my favourite bands ever is from Italy.)

DS has inherited my dad's curly hair as well, although his is brown. He was born with black curly hair and I was really excited he was going to have hair like my dad's, but then that fell out and grew back brown. Oh well, he's still gorgeous. 🥰 His eyes are the same colour as mine, although they were black when he was born and then turned grey before going hazel.

I haven't heard anything negative of the English either.

I always support my own country. If they don't make it to the World Cup, I support England.

Mostly because I'm not passionate enough about football for it to matter that much to me. I also enjoy how the whole country comes together during major tournaments. Having drinks with my English friends and cheering together is something I really enjoy.

I also don't really see the point of choosing a random country that I have even less of a connection to than England.

But if that sense of shared excitement isn't important to you, then just support whoever you want.

Thank you! My dad's mum was Italian, and his dad was Welsh. My mum's dad's family originated in Scotland and just moved further south over the years (his parents were from Sunderland and he was born in Oxford.) My mum's mum's side of the family are from Oxfordshire, and there's apparently a Spanish gypsy woman in that side of the family somewhere as well. I'm a very mixed bag. 😅

Yanbu I work with a lot of people from all different countries. They are supporting their own countries.
