To find lazy adults really grating?

myothersockis · 11/06/2026 07:26

I am well aware that I may sound like a massive bitch here.

I have a friend who is very lazy. She would rather be up until 2/3am on social media and sleep in until 10am everyday. We are late 20s. All she does is go to work (she’s a nursery assistant, fair play that’s hard work but still), and then come home and sit in bed. She ridicules me for going to the gym, running, having hobbies. She thinks it’s all a waste of time. She purposefully chooses 11-5 shifts so that she can lay in bed all morning.

It grates on me so much. I’m very much a morning person and while I understand not everyone is, I think it’s a pillar of being an adult that you’re out of bed by a reasonable time, even on the weekends. She’ll often text and say that she’s still in bed at 3pm. No mental health issues, just laziness.

AIBU to find this really grating?

Op will be tucked up in bed now anyway, ready for her sanctimoniously early arising.

It is only the lazy outlaws still up and going.

5:30, 7 is a lie in at the weekend!

Do you think you’re better than anyone because of how you schedule your sleep? Bit mental and this post suggests you don’t have as much going on in your life as you think.

🤣 had to check what board this was then. It is AIBU. Why do people ask questions they don’t want the answer to?

In this case, I think because OP is gobsmacked we haven't all been rushing to agree with her.

Xkk · 11/06/2026 22:28

myothersockis · 11/06/2026 07:49

I wouldn’t say they’re unproductive - they benefit your health and thus mean you’ll use less NHS resources. I have other hobbies too - sewing, I volunteer, a lot more than her.

OP if you don't agree with her life style why is she your friend? So you can bitch about her? So you can feel better about yourself? So you can pat yourself on the back that "at least I am not like x"? There is a saying "Protect me Lord from my friends because from enemies I can protect myself". She is judging you because you judge her. Mind your own buisness and get of your high horse, you are no better than her because you sew and run. Better even, block her and never talk to her again. You will be doing her a favour, trust me.

myothersockis · 11/06/2026 12:17

She is immature.

It’s just a fact. Mature adults don’t stay in bed all day, work 5.5 hours a day and claim it’s full time and hard work.

I always struggled with early shifts, chose to do late shifts when not doing night in the nhs for 36yrs. Now at just 60 living with autoimmune diseases that looking back I think I had it from my late 20’s I now have stage 4 kidney disease about to start dialysis. Don’t judge, none of us know what’s around the corner.

Nobody’s really changed my mind to be honest. I think getting in from work at 6:30, getting straight in bed without showering and ordering a takeaway instead of cleaning yourself and eating a good home cooked meal is pretty grotty! Muting this thread now ✌️

You’re fucking insane.

You can't mute the thread you have no control over that 😂
the same way you can't control what other people do with their lives 😂😂😂
hope your curently single, stay that way and never have children cause you would never cope not being able to control their lives 🤣🤣🤣

This! Plus, how have we jumped from staying up late and having a lie in, to going straight to bed and eating a takeaway in bed?! Lol

AlliWantIsARoomSomewheeeere · 11/06/2026 21:40

You don't sound like much of a friend.
What is it about morning people thinking they are morally superior??

My sleeping patterns before kids were 2am til 10am and I would happily spend an entire Sunday in bed! Blissful..

Far from lazy, just ADHD and a later circadian rhythm. Was plenty productive in the other hours running a successful business that now fits around my kids. She has a full time job, just different ideas about what down time looks like.

But the big question is did you go to the infamous Animalarium Borth?

Not the last time I went, but I have been before. And yes it is rather infamous!

.

Leapintothelightning · 11/06/2026 20:56

Have you ever worked in a nursery OP? It is physically and mentally exhausting. She is absolutely not lazy or she wouldn’t be doing that job.
After I’ve done the things that need done, I will just go and lie down and watch tv and chill. The last thing I want to do is go to the gym or out for a run!
We find enjoyment in different things, it doesn’t make me lazy.

How are you two even friends? From your posts it seems like she despises you, and obviously the feeling's mutual. We are only hearing your side of things so yes you are being unreasonable and should end the friendship for her sake...

Because she has the nerve to look down her nose at me from her bed!

I expect that most of the people on this thread are looking down on you. Tell your friend to sign up.

To be fair her family bankroll her at the moment but that can’t last forever! She’s going to end up obese and on benefits but who cares 🤷🏻‍♀️ her problem!

This is so nasty. I know who I’d rather be friends with.

It’s a shame that you haven’t spent your time educating yourself to either answer perfectly straightforward questions (that might actually result in greater support for your contention); or conduct an argument that supports your premise, rather than metaphorically sticking your fingers in your ears and stropping off. I have quite a lot of respect for your friend putting up with your “friendship” if you behave irl as you have on this thread. It sounds like she has the measure of you, and fights your ire with some humorous fire.

Haha! That's the equivalent of knowing people are talking sense but sticking your fingers in your ears and going Lalala!

JollyGreenWatermelon · 11/06/2026 14:49

I know you are trying to sound superior but your nasty little digs are a give away 😂

I am judging the both of you, because you seem to spend an awful amount of time throwing digs at people.

I’m unsure how you got that I’m judgemental and unsatisfied with my life from what I wrote? because you are saying that anyone who is different can only be motivated by their struggles and trauma. Is it so hard to imagine that it could be .. that they are different and simply have other preferences?

Why does it have to come from a struggle of any kind? Do we pity you and assume you can only be fighting some trauma because you are lying down watching "interesting" shows on tv?

Again, both the OP and you seem to have issues. As long as I don't have to watch tv with you, I dont' care or try to analyse if you watch tv or spend hours on MN

Again, your reading comprehension isn’t the best, is it?

Did I say that I was pondering out loud and drawing comparisons to people I KNOW in real life? I don’t doubt there are people that just enjoy being active for the sake of being active, fair play to them.

But, in my experience (key phrase there), the people that fill every single minute of their day with activity are avoiding something.

I am dealing with vicarious trauma through my job so although I enjoy lying down and doing the bare minimum more than the average person, these days a big part of it comes from being chronically overwhelmed from keeping children safe from being neglected and abused.

Enjoy your gardening 💐

I'd hate to see you in a shipyard or a busy factory. I can hardly walk when I get home at night sometimes because I'm so worn out. I'm 60 today (yaaayyy), and I've got another seven years of this...😆

It's not a competition. Of course a fully manual job would be more tiring but the OP can't pretend that a shift in a nursery is lazy.

Nobody was going to change your mind because you never had any intention of changing it! You are relishing putting your friend down too much. Enjoy polishing your halo.

To be honest I don’t know. We’ve been friends since uni and she’s never really grown up. I do think it’s time to cut her off

Probably a good idea to end the friendship, since she annoys you so much.
