I know many people don't like Owen Jones, but I found this article deeply disturbing.

I am a child of immigrants, and my children are mixed race. So things like this are really starting to worry me.

I completely understand why people are angry at the current rate and quality of immigration (my own family are also disgruntled with it). But Restore want to deport even those who have citizenship.

And I am genuinely concerned that things are going to get worse than Farage if the government don't get a grip on this.

“Lol. My 21-year-old Indian heritage son has a job offer of £50 k a year. He has 4 A stars at A level, an undergrad from UCL and a masters from Oxbridge. That's how he got his internship and job.
Cope with it. We ain't leaving.”

@friedaklein - I think you are right. The thickos who cannot pass their GCSEs don’t like the competition from the rest of the world. But economically, we need bright young people to serve the ageing population.

At this point, it will be more interesting to see whether India and China will try to stop their youngsters emigrating as they are also going into ageing demographic, especially China. India has just recorded no replacement population growth!

Personally, I am happy to listen to anti immigrant sentiment in so far as there is an economic argument or a real safety argument (eg criminals, not enough checks). But not otherwise.

Regarding Afghanis who helped the British and US. You cannot send them back, nobody else will help us in the future when we need it! Someone has to make rationale decisions.

Cope with it. We ain't leaving. Work harder perhaps instead of moaning about non-whites cleverer than you.

Edited

Good for him, his hard work and talent has deservedly paid off.

Are you foreign nationals living off the UK state?

If not, you can relax because no-one wants you to leave.

who would have thought it, a leftie and a rightie agreeing with something - rarely happens in the uk these days.

Who's who though
I don't actually know which I am
I need like a questionnaire where it asks your opinion on lots of different views ,then tells you who you should vote for ,like who you politically align with .

He is very astute and sees very clearly.

I like it when he directly address young british men in their teens and 20s, setting out in life. The "lads" as he calls them.

In past times, 1000s of these guys would have gone into the army, or down pits, or into shipyards and steelworks etc.

But all this is gone now. And they cant access the apprenticeships and internships etc which are open to everyone except white men. Or jobs which are divvied up on the basis of equity instead of merit.

He rightly senses their frustration and sense of hopelessness. He rightly identifies them as a massive vote bank. He obviously care about them and offers them a voice - no one else will.

I know when our local secondary schools held a vote at the same time as the GE our local ones tended to be reform as the winners. Those children are still not old enough to vote yet but will start to be next year.

I think reform voters will slowly move to restore to get away from the whole oh you just support Nigel stuff.

BlueSherbet · 11/06/2026 14:14

friedaklein · 11/06/2026 14:08

Heh! So the actual figures could be anything from 1 to 130,000! It's irrelevant to Restore voters. Got it.

No the figure is about 130,000 based on ppl identifying as somali in the last census, plus the stats for social housing.

Lowe is charismatic in a way. It’s an easier sell than you think, particularly with very limited opportunities for young people

So you know two young people? Great sample 😂

My eldest is 16, he has recently become interested in politics he asked me what I think so I told him and I urged him to read up on all parties and make his own decision as he’ll be able to vote in the next election.
He came to the conclusion that he doesn’t know who to vote for he doesn’t like Restore/reform or greens and wasn’t particularly impressed by Torys/Labour. He said his friends are a mixture of Green and Labour.
I don’t think we can shoe horn all young people into either Reform or Green etc.

I also think some teenagers will be influenced by family/friends and of course whats on social media but I imagine as they get older who they vote for as a young adult will change.

ilovebrie8 · 11/06/2026 14:11

They can return to Somalia where they came from.

It’s not our problem. The gravy train is ending.

Araminta1003 · 11/06/2026 14:11

I don’t understand this. If Restore do not want to pay benefits to those who have ILR then just cancel all benefits and social housing for them. Why do they have to go beyond and also deport them? Makes no sense. If it is the cost of them that is the issue, then address that. But the reality is this country has been benefitting from the hard work of immigrants for centuries. The NHS would collapse without them. Now if they want to pay higher wages to all NHS staff so they can afford their own rent etc, then do that. But there is no need to deport people actually working with no criminal records who are contributing to society. Makes zero economic sense.

friedaklein · 11/06/2026 14:08

Evidence?

Even 1 somali in UK social housing is too many.

That’s 130,000 social housing properties that would suddenly become available for British families under a restore government. And people wonder why they’re getting suppprt.

ilovebrie8 · 11/06/2026 14:05

BlueSherbet · 11/06/2026 13:59

There are about 130,000 Somalis living in UK social housing.

Why?

Its 72% of the somali population in the UK, compared with ~16% of the population as a whole.

Is this a benefit to the UK?

Exactly why?

They shouldn’t be in social housing and definitely not to that extent….

Hopefully that will be resolved, it’s a joke.

Well some of those will be family units (meaning several people in one home)
but you are right thats its still very many available homes for young british people seeking to make a life for themselves / raise a family.

Thing is trail hunting is abused, once the dogs get a scent they’ll go after the real thing and there is nothing they can do to stop them. So a poor fox gets ripped apart during a trail hunt and it’s a case of “oops, that was an accident”. They know exactly what they’re doing. I honestly think any human who enjoys the suffering of any animal genuinely has something wrong with them.

Yes. I was responding to a pps post about bloody London. Hence why I mentioned bloody London. Despite the fact that there is more to the UK. Do keep up.
