I know many people don't like Owen Jones, but I found this article deeply disturbing.

I am a child of immigrants, and my children are mixed race. So things like this are really starting to worry me.

I completely understand why people are angry at the current rate and quality of immigration (my own family are also disgruntled with it). But Restore want to deport even those who have citizenship.

And I am genuinely concerned that things are going to get worse than Farage if the government don't get a grip on this.

I don’t think they will. I think they’ll provide either a coalition with the Tories, to keep Reform out (sworn common enemy) or the current Reform voters will defect to Restore before the GE. I disagree with PP who said they have a ‘cat in hell’s chance’ of getting in. It’s unlikely but not vanishingly small. The situation is so febrile at the moment that the old rules no longer apply.

I hope you are right but not sure Kemi and co would entertain a coalition with Restore any more than Reform.

The most concerning thing about Restore is that they will facilitate Labour staying in government for longer which would be an unmitigated disaster for the UK.

I voted yabu for believing this claptrap

MushMonster · 11/06/2026 09:51

I know this is true because we got a political leaflet after the recent elections here and their immigration plans included deporting dual nationals.
So, now, it is both Reform and Restore who intend to take it on legal immigrants.
Even Labour is actually deporting legal immigrants that have been here for long time if they get caught doing something illegal https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/feb/26/how-can-i-start-again-at-68-maria-has-spent-50-years-in-the-uk-and-is-fighting-deportation

‘How can I start again at 68?’ Maria has spent 50 years in the UK – and is fighting deportation

She left the Netherlands for Britain in the 1970s at just 17. Now, after receiving a short suspended sentence, she faces removal to a country she hasn’t lived in for five decades or visited since 1999

I get that. But theyre not allowed to start tackling the issue, because of worries of where the line gets drawn eventually?

Who can start addressing the issue without people kicking off about what eventually might happen? Or does that mean we can never have any politicians speak to this issue

Well, that’s the million dollar question.

As a rule I think we’re good at proportionality and knowing where the line is drawn. Look at abortion - we’ve held a line there for many years now, successfully. Introducing something doesn’t mean it’ll end up at its more extreme possible outcome.

EnterQueene · 11/06/2026 09:48

The scariest thing about Restore Britain is that it is funded by the wealthiest man in the world who seems intent or fomenting civil war in Britain. I sometimes wonder if it is like a video game for Musk, playing at toy soldiers and seeing what happens. He certainly doesn't have British people's interests at heart.

Chocyulelog · 11/06/2026 09:45

Walkyrie · 11/06/2026 09:40

I think people are concerned at the ‘where does the line get drawn’ factor. As in - if they start deporting people for being on benefits, will they be deported for getting a parking ticket eventually? Will we end up with vast swathes of settled people being forcibly removed from their homes and put on flights.

There’s a certain amount of discretion that should be awarded to any person, because none of us are perfect - I’ve had parking tickets, a CCJ, I think a lot of people have done some ‘non serious’ illegal things such as minor driving infringements.

But I think they’re worried it’ll turn into a situation where the bar of behaviour for immigrants gets higher and higher and eventually just vanishes and becomes ‘immigrants per se’.

And these bams will go for a curry/kebab and haircut from the Turkish barber etc.

Burning families out of their homes is not a culture I want to be part of.
These fuckers portray themselves as protectors of white women and children and many are domestic abusers.
Once a cunt aye a cunt.

And they burned out care workers who probably look after their elderly grandparents.

Of course it was supposed to help stop immigration by stopping free movement. I never mentioned immigration from where .

He said to some people leaving the EU would reduce immigration. He said to others it would reduce immigration but also change where the migrants came from (as you said). He said to others it would allow more migration from commonwealth countries (which imply there couldn't be an overall reduction). Even within the article there's a contradiction as he first states that more commonwealth citizens could come, but then states overall migration would be in the 10s of 1000s which would have had to mean a reduction in commonwealth arrivals even if migration from the EU went to 0.

Another thing that annoys me about the "but the reduction on net migration includes departures" arguement is that a lot of those departures are e.g. foreign students who came on a student visa, were included in the arrival figures and then left post study and were included in the departure figures. It's not just foreigners arriving and Brits leaving as some imply. Of instead you cut out students from the figures completelyI think migration halves.

Have you been following the events in NI and Glasgow, where children have been driven out of their burning houses because of their colour? Is that standing up for culture?

Yes and this is terrible. But it doesnt answer any of my questions. This behaviour is abhorrent, and the underlying issues around mass immigration still exist - both things can be true

AnonyMumAuDHD · 11/06/2026 09:41

I am not worried about Restore. They don’t have a cat in hell’s chance of getting into power - but as yet another right of centre (far right in their case) party their presence may dilute the votes that could go, say, the Tories and ensure Labour get in again. That does worry me.

On the other hand, as a naturalised Brit who unwittingly was an illegal immigrant and didn’t discover that until I was 22 (mother brought me over as a baby and never did the paperwork), I could potentially be at risk. Though, I assume, only if I am a criminal. I actually don’t have an issue with the revocation of settled status/naturalisation and deportation of convicted criminals who have settled here. It should be part of the oath of allegiance to King and country that you are required to take before a legal official to make clear that this is part of the contractual terms of being given a british passport. Even for asylum seekers (my adoptive family are Iranian asylees). If you are given safe haven by a country and you shit on that generosity… then, yes, back to where you came from.

Coming at this from an angle where I really would like to learn more so please dont jump on me.

I dont understand how Restore are being viewed as racist, just because they raise the issue of immigration?

My personal view is that immigration is vital to our economy, and the majority has been successful. But what is undeniable is that theres been an influx of people in that challenge our culture, our rules, inflict pain/hurt on our population, and take take take, and do not contribute. In a time where COL is astronomical.

These people are the ones I believe do not have a right to stay here, and certainly if laws are broken then they should be deported for good.

I ultimately want to live in a society where my children are as safe as they can be (yes I know theres still awful people here but why add to that population?)

As I understand it this is what Restore/Reform want to face head on, not just blindly deport people based on colour. Educate me, why are people worried just because of their colour? Why are they being tagged as racist parties? Why are we not allowed to be proud and stand up for upholding our culture and inviting like-minded people to join?

Same and the very febrile issues currently faced re asylum

Friendlygingercat · 11/06/2026 09:39

Regarding the foundation of modern multiculturalism, it has never been put to a single referendum in the U.K. Instead, it evolved as an organic policy shift over several decades, driven by post-war labour needs and international human rights obligations, rather than a single ballot question. I don't ever recall being asked if I wanted to vote for a multi cultural society. I know what my answer would have been.

Brexit wasn't "supposed" to stop immigration.

There were "leave" posters with a long line of migrants which implied this was Britain's future if the choose to remain. Indeed, many people voted Leave over concerns re immigration.

There were also very different narratives targeted to South Asian communities who felt that migration from the EU was removing opportunities for economic migration from commonwealth countries. Said narrative argued that Leave could fix this problem as some EU migrants would be replaced by migrants from commonwealthncountries that Britain had more in common with.

The dislike of immigration and immigration policy is not racist.

To halt and reverse the flow is not racist.

I don't care if you are Albanian or Sudanese. I want illegals gone. I want criminals gone. I want those that do not integrate gone etc.

I think that’s what a lot of people, particularly those who live in areas that have changed beyond recognition, want. Those that make the rules are often far removed from the reality. My mixed race friend, whose dad came here to work, and never took a penny off the state, apart from the State Pension he contributed to, would agree.

She, like many of the children of immigrants, has had a successful career, her mixed race DC all work, likewise her oldest DGC. We live near an area that is ethnically very mixed, and it’s awful. The police are a constant presence, lots of non working adults, fighting on the streets, problems in the schools, flytipping etc. No wonder hard working, tax payers, who abide by the rules, who bring their DC up to do the same, are fed up with thousands of (mainly economic, and overwhelmingly young male) migrants who we have to support, who bring nothing of much value to the UK.

That people only heard what they wanted to hear doesn't mean they were lied to.

More black people will come to Britain if we leave the EU, says Farage

Ukip leader Nigel Farage (pictured on ITV's GMB this morning) said Brexit will help immigration become a 'non-issue' in the UK because it would allow us to cut net migration to under 50,000.
