I was standing on a concrete pump yesterday in my jumper and hardhat when it started absolutely pissing it down. Couldn't run and grab my raincoat for 20 mins by which time I was soaked to the skin. Squelchy wet boots for the rest of the day etc. Had to go home and shower before the gym as smelt like a wet dog.

I know we can't control the weather, but I totally agree with you @MagdelenaMorrison.

I'm sat here wearing two hoodies, a blanket that you can wear and I'm still cold. We have no GCH and although we have one bag of coal left, we haven't prepared any kindling and are completely out of wood.

I'm in West Yorkshire, and we haven't had it as bad as you from what you describe. We've had intermittent sunshine but I'm just fed up of the wet. It doesn't help that we live semi-rural now and the tracks to our house, and our driveway are just muddy bogs.

I think I'm struggling more with it this year because we have so much external work to do.

The climate emergency is terrifying and the rate of change is accelerating. Unusual weather patterns are part of it. We now seem to get a European monsoon in June and excessive heat in July. Summers used to be around 23 degrees, now they can be in the 30s.
We all need to do whatever we can to reduce our carbon emissions.

I prefer thundery June rain to relentless November rain. The garden is much happier now we’ve had some decent rain and it is going to get hot again next week. It is fairly typical for the time of year, it’s usually July that is hot and Sunny.

I agree - I'm a Scottish resident and been to Ireland more than a few times.
But this has been exceptional, even by Irish standards. The locals are moaning about it, and that says a lot.
All of this is due to a low sitting out by Iceland that usually would have moved. I think it's too do with this ElNino summer/winter system that's predicted - huge energy (warmth) out in Pacific and Atlantic.

It’s not unusual for Ireland though. In fact it’s expected. The dry days are unexpected.

I’ve actually experienced all 4 seasons within a 4 hour drive in the summer in Ireland. It’s definitely a memorable experience!

North West England. We had rain forecast every day this week (and last) and apart from today nothing but a few light showers. I've held off washing because of the forecast.

It is very much needed though, we had such a dry spring, and very hot weather in may for a week. It's felt cooler but certainly not having the heating on, we still have lots of windows open (I'm always the coldest person in the room and we never turn the heating 'off' either it's just set by the thermostat).

I was at the tennis today. The forecast looked like it was going to be pouring all day but actually play only stopped for a couple of hours - once at lunch and once early evening - and they managed to get through all the matches scheduled.

it's all to do with whether the the jet stream goes north or south. We live on a rock off the North Atlantic. We are further north than every major Canadian city (except Edmonton). It could be. a lot worse for us given our location.

It's not that unusual for June. July is usually hotter and drier and more rain in August then some more nice weather into September.

My garden is green and everything is alive and we have a lovely lawn. Ok not 90 degree sun but I’m pleased about that! It will improve!

@Sidebeforeself I think it would be really odd if it wasn’t mentioned on a thread about weather! You don’t have to let it spoil your enjoyment of the thread though- just ignore climate-related comments 🤷🏼‍♀️

On the bright side, I’ve realised there is zero point in spending money on summer clothes.

I was just thinking today that I haven't seen a single butterfly this year. Plenty of bees, they like(d) my salvia most of which has been blasted off the face of the earth like yours OP. And baby bird numbers seem down, I wonder if a lot died of exposure in the nests this year.

James Hansen? I can’t link to the Guardian 2023 article that quoted his updated warning. He said that the world is shifting towards a superheated climate not seen in the past 1m years, prior to human existence, because “we are damned fools” for not acting upon warnings over the climate crisis. He alerted the world to the greenhouse effect in the 1980s.

He was a NASA climate scientist who had warned that the world was moving towards a “new climate frontier” with temperatures higher than at any point over the past million years, bringing impacts such as stronger storms, heatwaves and droughts.

He said the record heatwaves that had roiled the US, China, Europe and elsewhere in 2023 had heightened “a sense of disappointment that we scientists did not communicate more clearly and that we did not elect leaders capable of a more intelligent response”.

“It means we are damned fools,” Hansen said of humanity’s ponderous response to the climate crisis. “We have to taste it to believe it.”

It is shit because whilst we are never ever assured lovely weather in the spring and summer (and by lovely I just mean warm and settled, not hot), we are ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED shitty weather (cold, wet and windy) in some form from October - April/May (and June apparently) 😭😭😭

Those saying they enjoy this shit are clearly not gardeners as whilst we need some rain occasionally, the wind, rain and hail has just destroyed most of the things I've been looking forward to since last year 😢😢

This is the effect of climate change, unfortunately we need to get used to it
