To be disappointed with how soft play handled this man

I reported an inappropriate sexual comment made by another parent at a soft play area yesterday.

I was climbing down from one of the raised areas with my DS and didn’t realise he was climbing up. I said a polite sorry and he replied not to worry and that if he knew his £10 entry included him getting an arse in his face he would have visited months ago. I challenged him and then reported to staff.

The staff approached me 10/15 minutes later to say they’d spoken to him and he had admitted saying that but was ‘obviously joking’ and he relayed his apologies, so they considered the matter sorted.

Personally, I think he should have been asked to leave. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable and could have gone on to say similar to other parents present.

Agreed. I don't understand how you were made to feel extremely uncomfortable. It was clearly a jokey comment and the vast majority of people would have thought it was an amusing thing to say making light of an awkward situation.

Because attention was drawn to her arse in a sexual way? i.e. the idea of paying for it in his face?

Can you see how that coming from a random man might possibly make a woman feel a bit uncomfortable?

lessglittermoremud · 10/06/2026 16:34

He shouldn’t have said it, however I would have laughed because it was pretty funny…. I imagine if it had been a blokes arse coming towards him, he would have said something like ‘I hope that’s not loaded’ or some equally crass/fart joke because I am the only female in my house and some of the jokes that get bandied around, to a more sensible person would probably get the same reaction as yours.
I think I would have retorted that £10 was cheap and that he was lucky to get a discount or something similar rather than report him.
He made you uncomfortable so you did what you thought was right, he admitted his comment and apologised. I don’t think they should have made him leave, and hopefully he’ll be more mindful going forwards.

I would have also been really unhappy to hear a comment like that in a soft play (or anywhere really). I'm a bit surprised so many posters are telling you that you are being ridiculous.

It's obviously not OK for a man to say something like that to a woman.

I'm glad he was challenged, but the fact he said he was 'obviously joking' means he didn't really take it seriously. It was basically a 'cheer up love' sort of response.

Fact is, it's an inappropriate comment, especially at a soft play, he made you feel uncomfortable and vulnerable, and sexualised you.

And a woman would not have said that to a man, or another woman.

I'm interested in how he responded to you when you challenged him?

Sorry, I found this funny too but I would have been a bit embarrassed if it were me. But it's still funny.

Mind you I've accidentally grabbed a man's junk putting something in the bin soooo.

I have to know more 😂How does one accidently grab someones balls when putting out the trash?

Wherewithout · 10/06/2026 16:31

How did he respond when you challenged him?

DriveVerySlowlyPastNumber23IWantThemToSeeMyHat · 10/06/2026 16:31

😂😂😂

HelenHywater · 10/06/2026 16:30

OP it's not funny or appropriate. I'm with you.

All the cool girls on this thread are unbelievable.

Pinkchickenwine · 10/06/2026 16:30

Mountain and molehill!

FGS OP lighten up and be more careful where you put arse in future!

I hope he’s recovered from the shock of having that happen at soft play!

Me too, in fact I laughed whilst reading it, I would take it as harmless , but he apologised , what more do you want OP?

lilibetspet · 10/06/2026 16:28

I’m sorry OP. I feel for you. No sense of humour at all. Uptight. Wanting the power of having a man removed from soft play. I hope you get better soon.

amicisimma · 10/06/2026 16:28

If you shoved your arse in his face, he made a joke of it. He could have got all huffy and embarrassed you, but decided to lighten the moment.

It would have been nice if you could have accepted that with a good grace, rather than making something out of very, very little.

If he had been trying to be inappropriate more fool you for giving him the satisfaction of reacting.

SilenceInside · 10/06/2026 16:26

I think the fact that he was challenged for his inappropriate comment was probably enough in this situation, the staff spoke to him and he apologised. The "only joking" comment is typical for this kind of person and those who think it's no problem, so it's disappointing but not unexpected. Asking him to leave is probably too much for a one off comment like this. If he was a repeat offender then yes.

Pippa12 · 10/06/2026 16:26

We are going to end up so tight lipped and stiff, life will be very boring.

2msoundsright · 10/06/2026 16:22

Christ, OP.

Hatty65 · 10/06/2026 16:22

I'm a large lady and would have laughed and said, 'Well you certainly got your money's worth!'

PeachySmile2 · 10/06/2026 16:21

Get a grip

applebee33 · 10/06/2026 16:20

Oh for god sake give it over ! I would have laughed at this obvious joke. I thought this was going to be about some creepy man talking to kids. Why are people so bloody precious these days .

SpottyPyjama · 10/06/2026 16:18

I’d find that funny. If I were feeling particularly miserable, grumpy and uptight I might think’twat’ but it was a non issue. You went to a public place, expect to deal with the public. It is quite pathetic that you feel you needed a member of soft play staff to interfere because you felt ‘uncomfortable’ at some harmless words. You should probably stay in in future.

ACIGC · 10/06/2026 16:15

Get a grip, it was a joke and not an overly sexual one either.

I mean I would of laughed at that sorry 😂

So would I!

moderateme · 10/06/2026 16:13

He made me feel extremely uncomfortable and could have gone on to say similar to other parents present.

Presumably only if they had also put their arse in his face?

I wold have either chuckled or eye rolled, depending on how much sleep I'd had and not given it a second thought. So kicking this guy out would have been a massive reaction IMO.

bigboykitty · 10/06/2026 16:13

It's not funny. It was inappropriate. He should have been asked to leave. It's seems like men's worsening sexualised behaviour is just increasingly excused, especially by Reform supporters.

Happytaytos · 10/06/2026 16:13

SnappyQuoter · 10/06/2026 16:03

You’ll get a pile on saying this was a joke and to get over it, but I’d agree he should have been told to leave. We need to come down hard on all these comments by men every single time.
When my kids were toddlers, I was in a cafe and knelt down to tie it oldest son’s shoelace when a man at the next table open his legs a bit and said, “while you’re down there love” with a guffaw. I had a very loud reply, and they were asked to leave but only because I made a fuss and that cafe replied on mums with toddlers to earn it’s money.
It’s just men treating women as objects. It should be dealt with every time.

That's a totally different type of comment. It's implying a specific sexual act the man in OPs example made a generic comment about arse.

Pippa12 · 10/06/2026 16:13

I think it was handled ok. He was warned, the staff didn’t ignore the situation, his card was marked. It wasn’t great behaviour but not the worst. Nothing like @SnappyQuoter experience. Gross.
