To be disappointed with how soft play handled this man

I reported an inappropriate sexual comment made by another parent at a soft play area yesterday.

I was climbing down from one of the raised areas with my DS and didn’t realise he was climbing up. I said a polite sorry and he replied not to worry and that if he knew his £10 entry included him getting an arse in his face he would have visited months ago. I challenged him and then reported to staff.

The staff approached me 10/15 minutes later to say they’d spoken to him and he had admitted saying that but was ‘obviously joking’ and he relayed his apologies, so they considered the matter sorted.

Personally, I think he should have been asked to leave. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable and could have gone on to say similar to other parents present.

Sorry I would have laughed and may also have said something similar!

amyds2104 · 11/06/2026 12:51

Maybe your arse being close to his face made him feel uncomfortable but knew it wasn’t a deliberate act so was trying to make a joke of it to avoid awkwardness. He also may have tried to make a joke of it so you didn’t accuse him of trying to put his face near your arse in an inappropriate way? Men can’t be too careful now a days so sounds awkward all round. Feel sorry for him that you put your bum near him that you felt the need to apologise, he made a joke of it and then he was told off by staff! Actually feel sorry for him.

Im sorry you felt uncomfortable too but actually the guy was just playing on soft play with his kids…

MooMoo74 · 11/06/2026 12:48

I mean yeah, it’s a little weird of a comment to a stranger, but it’s a joke. I would of laughed and carried on with my day not report him.

The thread is fascinating as it shows how as a society we just accept sexualised comments to women while we absolutely don’t accept other ‘isms.’

I don’t actually blame the man, it’s a cultural thing, but people tee heeing about it - it really isn’t funny.

He made an awkward joke to try and finish an awkward situation … hardly a sexualised comment.

hypnovic · 11/06/2026 12:40

m00rfarm · 10/06/2026 16:50

That is NOTHING like the comment in the OP.

Its exactly the same

BuildbyNumbere · 11/06/2026 12:39

Fatiguedwithlife · 10/06/2026 16:44

Imagine if you had sat on his face, he could have had you removed for assaulting him.

As she was climbing down onto him maybe he could have sighted harassment. OP could then have been the one to be removed!

hypnovic · 11/06/2026 12:38

Ahhh the mysogony is coming from inside the house. Women defending perverts due to conditioning is sad and damaging and perpetuates rape culture. Get underneath your conditioning or your children are doomed

Mh67 · 11/06/2026 12:38

Get a grip seriously its funny and a joke

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 11/06/2026 12:38

SnappyQuoter · 10/06/2026 16:03

You’ll get a pile on saying this was a joke and to get over it, but I’d agree he should have been told to leave. We need to come down hard on all these comments by men every single time.
When my kids were toddlers, I was in a cafe and knelt down to tie it oldest son’s shoelace when a man at the next table open his legs a bit and said, “while you’re down there love” with a guffaw. I had a very loud reply, and they were asked to leave but only because I made a fuss and that cafe replied on mums with toddlers to earn it’s money.
It’s just men treating women as objects. It should be dealt with every time.

That’s very different. It really also depends how the man said this to OP. Some things can still be a harmless joke.

BuildbyNumbere · 11/06/2026 12:36

Oh come on … your over-reaction is ridiculous.

MaryMayMiss · 11/06/2026 12:35

Lighten up, for Gods sake.

takealettermsjones · 11/06/2026 12:23

There is an enormous difference between "not funny" and "predatory and should be banned."

BunnyMcDougall · 11/06/2026 11:37

Would he have made that joke to an adult man?

I know men who would 100% have made that kind of joke to each other. I also know women who would have said that, either to men or to other women.

Thebigonesgetaway · 11/06/2026 12:05

I’d also have found this funny , I can’t imagine reporting it never mind wanting the guy chucked out, it was clearly a joke, yes inappropriate and yes he hugely misjudged, but hardly something worthy of hysteria.

chirrupybird · 11/06/2026 11:51

If it had been the other way round and he had put his arse in her face I'm sure he would still be getting stick for it, the op would probably have reported him for sexual assault, rather than trying to laugh it off.

One was an accident. The other was a deliberately aimed comment.
Had he been coming down as she went up and they accidentally connected, I’m fairly sure she’d have been fine with it had he apologised as she did to him.

chirrupybird · 11/06/2026 11:51

Malasana · 11/06/2026 11:17

And other women are not fine with it.

You do know that our feelings are equally valid don’t you?

I think it was inappropriate but he was probably embarrassed too. It's just not something to make a big deal out of and expecting the staff to throw him out of the soft play is beyond ridiculous. Some people need to grow up.

Are you using “some people” to mean me? If so, please do just say so. No need to stand in ceremony being passive aggressive here. 🤣

I’m fully grown thanks. I just don’t find “jokes” like this man had aimed at OP funny. We do all have different senses of humour (and different boundaries as well) and if not finding this funny makes
me a humourless old prude, I accept that with pride.

Malasana · 11/06/2026 10:30

Because when you look back in history, the majority have always been on the right side?
I think the message here is that she was humiliated. He made an unwanted comment that she (and plenty of others) on this thread have felt was inappropriate and sexual.
Yes we may be in the minority and - as others have tried to assert - have no sense of humour but this sort of humour is just not funny if someone is left humiliated.

Would he have made that joke to an adult man?

Why, do you think that’s as bad as making a sexual comment to a child too?

Malasana · 11/06/2026 11:41

ToKittyornottoKitty · 11/06/2026 11:21

I haven’t said they aren’t, it’s you who has an issue with people finding it funny

I have an issue with women telling the OP and other who agree with her that she needs to lighten up, it’s just a joke, it was her fault that she “shoved” her arse in his face, that she’s overreacting etc etc.

A stranger said something to her that was uninvited and inappropriate and she felt embarrassed enough to both challenge him on it as well as to tell the staff. And yet she should lighten up, see it is a joke, she has no sense of humour etc.

It’s like an episode of Carry on at Softplay. Fully expecting Sid James to pop us shouting oooh matron at every opportunity.

OP I fully understand how you feel and you’re entitled to feel like that.

BunnyMcDougall · 11/06/2026 11:37

ToKittyornottoKitty · 11/06/2026 09:27

He made a joke to an adult woman, of course it would have been 100% different he if made that same joke to a child. Don’t be so daft. Probably the silliest comment on this thread.

Playcomment · 10/06/2026 16:48

It seems you are in the minority…I’ll have to accept that making a facesitting comment in front of kids is perfectly normal next time I go 🙄

Why would kids understand that? If they know what "facesitting" is then that's a huge safeguarding concern itself.

MrsOni · 11/06/2026 11:19

It was a slightly stupid joke trying to downplay what was probably a really embarrassing situation for both of you, and he apologised for it. That should be enough. Getting him and his kids kicked out for that would be a huge overreaction.
