To be disappointed with how soft play handled this man

I reported an inappropriate sexual comment made by another parent at a soft play area yesterday.

I was climbing down from one of the raised areas with my DS and didn’t realise he was climbing up. I said a polite sorry and he replied not to worry and that if he knew his £10 entry included him getting an arse in his face he would have visited months ago. I challenged him and then reported to staff.

The staff approached me 10/15 minutes later to say they’d spoken to him and he had admitted saying that but was ‘obviously joking’ and he relayed his apologies, so they considered the matter sorted.

Personally, I think he should have been asked to leave. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable and could have gone on to say similar to other parents present.

So a man saying, "while you're down there, love" is fine, as it's a joke?

Is this a joke

the pick mes on this thread are very busy dick pandering”

I mean I’m not laughing? Did you mean it as a slur or a joke?

Why is it okay to make an unsolicited sexual comment to a woman?

Why is this ok to say?

Please explain why this is ok to say to a woman?

I don’t suppose he’d studied OPs arse that carefully to be honest, maybe she was only worth a fiver in reality, but being an off the cuff remark 🤷‍♀️

Ah you didn’t just revert to trying to insult her did you? Disappointing.

OtterlyAstounding · 11/06/2026 15:23

So why is it fine to make an unsolicited sexual comment to an 18+ woman? Are we now okay with cat calls, too? Your boss making sexual innuendo?

are you playing one of those games that you have to say the numbers so many times in a day?

So your numbers are 16,17 and 18.

Mine is 20.

Go back and read the 20 replies you’ve got to this question!

There you are I’ve used 20 three times now !

It depends if it’s a joke, like in the OP or something remotely serious!

Phoenixfire1988 · 11/06/2026 15:26

I would of found it funny and it would of eased the embarrassment of shoving my arse in a strangers face at a soft play !

Rather than keep repeating the same questions over and over again to different people, why don't you go back and read the last few pages of the thread?

It was a silly, lewd joke. Some adults find silly, lewd jokes quite funny.

So you think men should be able to make unsolicited sexual 'jokes' to women, if they feel like it? And women should just take it? Why?

SouthLondonMum22 · 11/06/2026 15:25

It really shouldn't be tolerated at all in society and he should've been asked to leave. It isn't funny, why couldn't he have simply stopped at 'don't worry about it'?

lokitree · 11/06/2026 15:23

It would make me uncomfortable too, but not to the point of complaining and I wouldn’t have expected him to leave. I probably would’ve angrily texted a friend and been quite offended personally but I definitely wouldn’t have done anything about it. As much as it’s offensive and rude, it is also harmless and he was making a (poor) joke. I think you need to let it go op

By saying he found OP's arse in his face to be sexually gratifying, such that he was happy to pay £10 for it. I think that just made things more awkward, by making an unsolicited sexual 'joke'.

Many people have already explained this, in words to the effect of:

Because sometimes is it okay to say things to women that you wouldn't say to girls.

It's such a simple question to answer...if you have one. You could've answered just then, instead of the little dodge you just wrote.

I'm sorry that you find my very simple questions of "why is it acceptable to say that to a woman? Is it acceptable to say to a teenage girl? Why is it acceptable to say to a woman but not a teenage girl" too hard to follow.

That’s not what you were asking, you literally said regarding your comparison to 16 year olds. There you go tho being all twisty again. What a waste of time

I don't believe you have actually explained why it's acceptable for a stranger to make an unsolicited sexual comment to someone.

You are making the assumption that he found the OPs arse to be sexually gratifying, the majority see it as a joke and no actual reflection on how appealing or otherwise the OPs arse actually is (sorry if that disappoints you OP)

Alright then, he made an insincere joke that implied he found OP's arse sexually gratifying, and was happy to pay for the pleasure of it.

Is it supposed to be better, that it was insincere? Does that make it less sexual, unwanted, or objectifying?

Pleasering · 11/06/2026 15:10

gannett · 11/06/2026 15:06

It's far from joke of the year - more like an awkward comment to make light of an awkward situation - but it's disturbing that adults are so quick to bypass the "roll eyes, move on" reaction and escalate straight to "complain to the manager to get someone THROWN OUT".

Did you actually feel threatened, OP? In danger? Unsafe? If this man's vibe was such that you did, my apologies - if any of that applies, you should certainly have been protected.

But if you just thought his way of trying to deal with awkward physical contact was not to your taste, this just strikes me as a bit of an attempted power move on your part.

Agreed and I don’t think the poor chap deserved to be publicly humiliated in that way.

OtterlyAstounding · 11/06/2026 15:09

ToKittyornottoKitty · 11/06/2026 15:00

I have you just haven’t accepted it as you are repeatedly making the same point over and over about teenagers even though it’s not relevant. It’s pointless and doesn’t help OPs point of view at all

But again, that's why I'm self-employed

That made me laugh

I can hardly believe the number on here excusing this man's uninvited and puerile "banter". Why do you need to pander to or appease these rude and objectifying men? So sad that women do this. This comes on the day of the first ever conviction for sexual harrassment based on jokes or banter. The defendant tried to claim it was only "banter". Fortunately the judge disagreed. YANBU OP.🌺

Agree. What that guy said was utterly disgusting. And to those of you who say it’s banter, expect better!
