Fed up with colleague rimming this down my throat?

I’ve a colleague who I get along with at work, we chat and know a reasonable amount about each other.

She has dated a few people over the past year of two, she’s currently seeing someone who is getting divorced. It seems to be getting a bit serious in her words (only been a few weeks) and they’ve discussed buying a house down the line.

He has a very well paying job and she has said they’ll either be able to buy somewhere and be Mortgage free, or buy a big house in a great area which she never thought she’d be able to live in. Great, I do want her to be happy.

My ‘AIBU’ is whether I am wrong to feel fed up with her mentioning his wealth at every opportunity, and how she could never dream of ‘being mortgage free at her age’. It is starting to feel gloaty now…

I’m clutching my pearls at that thread title.

Just be thankful a pearl necklace isn't involved before/after or instead of the rimming

Firefly100 · 09/06/2026 19:43

Just nod and let her go on. Her bubble will burst soon enough. Start a bet without yourself when it will all go wrong.
she’s currently seeing someone who is getting divorced - My first thought was; Does his wife know?

Lecruesetisntright · 09/06/2026 19:42

I had a great like this. Brought up her partners salary at every opportunity, brought up the price of the house they were buying etc. Became wearing very quickly.

I was fortunate that I had a particular way I could deal with it - invited her round to my house. It was clear that my house was worth more than hers. She had the audacity to ask how much DH earned (I'd never disclosed either of our salaries to her).

Like I say. I used to have a friend like that. Harder to get rid of when it's a colleague. But you have my sympathy, it's really annoying.

Pedallleur · 09/06/2026 19:41

That's some job. There's rimming and ramming going on. Hope it's behind closed doors

dannyufcfan · 09/06/2026 19:41

No wonder this made trending.

She seems just as into it to be honest, making all these grand plans etc. I don’t think she realises it won’t all be plain sailing with him having a couple of teenagers and not always able to be free every weekend. I haven’t said that to her of course.

Oh, he's got teenagers and isn't divorced yet? It gets better! How fucking awful. 🤣

I'd feel sorry for her rather than anything else. OP. His life sounds like it's in the complete-mess stage. Would be different if the divorce had been settled 2-3 years ago and the kids were out of their teens.

People who have to get rimmed at work have earned a super rich man as compensation.

Getting serious after a few weeks with a man who’s going through a divorce?… The buying of a house will never happen.

I tend to agree with this assessment.

OP, I would find this annoying, too. She should know better than to go on about wealth. Can't you say something straight out but with a funny twist? Like, "Well that's great for you, but I won't be mortgage-free for a long time so do stop going on about it, or I might have to strangle you!"

Horses7 · 09/06/2026 19:35

Smile and support her - especially when she discovers it’s all lies and she’s already paid him her half of the house deposit.

Yes, I'm a bit disappointed too. 😕

I'm not, this thread is hilarious!

Bless him!

No one falls in love as quickly as an about-to-be-divorced man in need of a new home with a free child minder, housekeeper, cook, etc. who also provides sexual services.

Yikes, that would be very unpleasant. Have a chat with HR 😂

or just tell her to shut TF up???

Allseeingallknowing · 09/06/2026 19:27

Viscous thread for you,OP!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/06/2026 19:26

Tell her that some people are so poor that money is all they have.

Does she actually like him? Or just his wallet?

Wre · 09/06/2026 19:24

Great title.

I would be concerned that he is not actually divorcing and that she’s the other woman.

Just nod and smile. She’s a grown up.

If she mentions rimming do post again.

AffableApple · 09/06/2026 19:21

Comments did not disappoint...

How long was he single before he started dating? I bet he’s waited a good few months and has got himself sorted before he throws himself into dating ( which of course I don’t believe for one minute ). Of course if his stbexw is on here she’ll have a SHL and he may find himself with slightly less money than he might imagine. Your friend would certainly be thick as mince to be even talking about living together this early let alone buying a house together.

What is a SHL? I dont believe it was long, she doesn’t know about my colleague yet either.
