You can lie to yourself and everyone else about the death of public services as much as you like but nobody believes what you're saying. And unfortunately you just make bad actors in politics more attractive because some people panic that they're the only option.

As other people have pointed out, they happily believe what I am saying because their own experience demonstrates that what you claim is not true. You simply mean that you choose to close your eyes and ears to easily ascertainable facts because you choose not to believe them whenever they don't suit your agenda.

Tell me, if you think that children with SEND should not receive support to meet their needs in school, what do you say should happen to them?

Screamingabdabz · 08/06/2026 23:55

What I do observe in my own shithole town:

potholes everywhere
lots of cheap quality new build housing but no real investment in supporting infrastructure
lots of newly arrived people
green belt land being eroded all the time
empty town/city centres
fewer people abiding by the Highway Code on the road
lack of jobs for young people
Flags
Dog shit bags and litter

What I observe that doesn’t seem so bad:

NHS services
Public transport (frequency and efficiency)
Parks and heritage sites
School place availability
Sporting events and concerts
The number of people who don’t fly flags
Wetherspoons!

What this country needs to ‘turn it around’ is a thriving economy and a boost to British business. But unfortunately we will have to wait until the predictable ‘tax anything that moves to pay benefits’ government is kicked out, and hopefully we get a new set of ministers who are more business minded and forward thinking.

There's an old English poem called the Ruin which is basically an Anglo Saxon guy wondering around some Roman ruins feeling vaguely wistful. And.now we wonder around medieval ruins and feel the same way.

First there were giants but they died. Then the Romans came and killed a load of people and drained our lovely bogs. Then the Romans left and we stopped having hot water. Then vikings. Then 1066. Then a load of war.and plague. Then empire which many disagreed with at the time plus industrialisation of our green and pleasant land. Then we stopped having an empire and many disagreed with that. Then Thatcher. Then Cadburys changed their recipe.

It's been one bloody thing after another basically and will continue to be so for ever I imagine.

Before people were jailed for having an opinion?
Before the authorities, terrified of being labelled racist, allowed dangerous people free to murder?
Before 2 tier justice?
Before we had hordes of undocumented men roaming the freely on the streets intimidating (and worse) women and young girls?
Only yesterday 3 or 4 streets from me, a teenage boy was chased through the streets by a barefoot man of middle Eastern appearance, and smashed in the face with a brick. This man has been arrested and removed from the town and is now ON BAIL pending further inquiries. So basically free to go and do the same again, or worse, to somebody else's child

I asked OP.

People are not jailed just for having an opinion. They may be jailed if their expression of their opinions places them in breach of legislation which has been in place for over 30 years. The authorities don't allow dangerous people to commit murder through fear of being called racist, witness the arrest,, charge and conviction of Vickrum Digwa. etc etc etc. You're just reciting a load of fiction fed to you by the ultra right wing press because you want to believe it.

Not bullshit. All the ones who need an interpreter get seen first because interpreters are paid by the hour, by the NHS (us) so we have to wait in the queue.
Most other countries do not provide free interpreters, they have to bring family member or friend with them to interpret. Perhaps this is something the NHS should look into, saving the taxpayers a cart load of money

I am British and live in another country, definitely no interpreters, I had to learn the language, assimilation and all that

This is bullshit. Have you pulled it out of your arse or swallowed it whole from GB News? Stop falling for this nonsense, it's actually embarrassing.

The economy is in flatline,

No, it isn't. Despite the massive problems left by the last government, and the further problems caused by the idiocy of Brexit, In the first quarter of this year, for example, our growth was ahead of the US, France, Germany, Canada and Italy.

Nope. We book a patient, and if they need an interpreter then we book that. Yes they cost the NHS more, but they aren't seen any quicker due to needing one.

In many parts of the UK street muggings are not punished by law which seems a fairly good start

If the evidence is there and the attackers are caught, they certainly are.

Bushmillsbabe · 08/06/2026 23:43

I don't think it's 'too late'. But I do think we are at a turning point/crossroads where some tough decisions will need to be made on our priorities and needs as a country. Our national debt is growing by the day, and the more money which goes on paying the interest on that, the less is available for public services, and we are creating a ticking timebomb for our children. This is creating a perfect conditions for extremism (far right, far left) to flourish, which is really concerning. I really hope labour brings the COL under control, national debt down. They need to calm this political storm, so Reform don't get in, as then we would be completely stuffed.

CurdinHenry · 08/06/2026 23:43

CaesarAugusta · 08/06/2026 23:42

We aren't overpopulated, and if anything our population is falling. Witness the problems people having finding staff in the NHS and service industries, witness the fact that primary schools are being closed down for lack of applicants. We desperately need more immigrants.

The population is increasing year on year.

You know what, you're ignorant and confident so there's no point to this.

Dollymylove · 08/06/2026 23:42

CaesarAugusta · 08/06/2026 23:37

Bullshit. No GP is refusing appointments to people who genuinely need them in favour of people who need interpreters.

It makes no sense whatsoever for schools not to meet SEND. Proper provision literally makes the difference between children with SEND becoming working, taxpaying members of society and spending their lives on benefits and/or in the justice system.

Universities don't prioritise applications from deprived backgrounds, but they do rightly make allowances for candidates in those circumstances. A student who has struggled against massive odds to achieve Grade Bs a A level will be much more successful as a student and in later life than one who has dossed his way through school on daddy's money and has only got A levels because he has been spoon-fed what to write by his expensive public school.

I'd certainly prefer my medical treatment to come from a proven smart kid than a kid who might be smart if only he'd had the right options in life. Certainly in my profession the leg up kids are usually not great. (Fortunately nobody tends to die when we fuck up at least not immediately)

CaesarAugusta · 08/06/2026 23:42

Walkyrie · 08/06/2026 23:24

Yes I think so, and I don’t even mean it in the way Reform do.

I think our population is far far far too high. The racial makeup aspect is irrelevant, the numbers are just far too big for too small a country. But there’s nothing humane you can really do about such a large population so it’s here to stay. But that in turn means dearer and less available housing, more congestion, overburdened infrastructure. We are a hugely overpopulated country trying to navigate a Victorian set up of narrow streets and small houses.

Sadly this is and will lead to a lot of physical and mental health problems in the population as well as unaffordable living.

We aren't overpopulated, and if anything our population is falling. Witness the problems people having finding staff in the NHS and service industries, witness the fact that primary schools are being closed down for lack of applicants. We desperately need more immigrants.

I feel angry I can't get a GP appointment but the GP will give people appointments for other people who don't speak English with translators. I wonder how poor provision for taxpayers will have to get before this stops being sustainable. I don't think schools should prioritise send I think they should prioritise future taxpayers and self sufficiency. I don't think universities should prioritise applications from deprived backgrounds, I think they should prioritise kids who are smart. I don't think we should have voted for Brexit to prioritise Indian work visas instead.

But these views are all toxic and the only political options to back them are reform maniacs who will dismantle the last of the public sector and fuck us all permanently without fixing anything.

So.

Glad I'm old enough to hope to die in a couple of decades but sucks to be young.

How do you explain the local election results? Massive amount for Reform, not a small proportion.. Wouldn't be shocked when they get voted in next election, sadly needlessly to say.

People’s voting patterns in mid-term locals aren't a very good indicator of who they vote for in a general election 2+ years later. Completely erroneously, people often see local elections as consequence-free and a bit like a popularity contest, when in reality local elections are pretty important at determining how your life pans out.

My main point though was that extreme parties trading on whipping up racial hatred are generally not very succesful in the UK. As a country, it’s too diverse, too educated, too much shaped by wave after wave of immigration.

People voting for Reform will also react very badly, by and large, to any sense they’ve been tricked, misled, or hoodwinked, and Reform have hoisted themselves by their own petard there - witness people who have had to resign because of their stupid social media posts or unpalatable history…

I can get a GP appointment. I got one last week. I had the tests I needed, I was referred to the hospital and have an appointment next Tuesday. You can’t fault that.

I think your views about SEND children are abhorrent. Every child should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Not every child who has a disability will never work. If they don’t get the right support at school then their chances of working will reduce.

Exactly, lots of children with SEN will work, some may go on to be extremely sucessful.

Richard Branson I think is dyslexic, Bill gates has ADHD, Simon Biles has ADHD, as does the guy who founded IKEA. I'm sure there are loads nore examples.

SEN provision does need overhauling, currently it's high cost, limited benefit for too many children, with too many delays and structural barriers. There is never going to be more money, but what there is, could be used much more effectively

Get rid of the touchy feely soft policing and all wokey nonsense and bring law and order back. People and especially women, in many areas are scared to go in daylight, never mind at night 😡

Every child won't grow up to pay for the whole of society. I don't think it's very rational to cut potential for those who will, I'd quite like someone to pay for my pension if nothing else.
