Are you blind or don't you watch any news, social media news etc. You get arrested for a posted tweet but let off for r a p e!

You don’t get arrested for tweets and you don’t “get away” with rape.

What can’t / won’t the police do?

Turn the clock back to pre 1997 before Blair started the monumental fuck up that we now have to live with. Stop kowtowing to certain groups. Put the armed forces on the streets to do what the police cant/wont do.
Round up all the illegals and kick them out.
Thats a start

Brilliant comment 👍

I think the UK has an awful lot of problems right now and the government seems to be burying it's head in the sand a bit over things. It's going to reach a tipping point soon with some bad consequences to come. It's not too late to make changes but needs cross party action.

Finally someone who hasn't got their head in the sand and can see how bad the country is. Unless we get Labour out nothing will change. I don't particularly like Reform but they have to be better than Labour.

Do you feel the same about sign language?

Don't be ridiculous. A profojndly deaf person cannot learn to speak English. Someone from another country can.

I think what this poster means is they’d like to go back to more police brutality and overt discrimination toward black and brown people. More stop and search, more casual beatings, that sort of thing. Bit like Soweto in the 1970s.

Sounds like projection to me

Believe a dying man who has told them he has been stabbed!

It would make it easier because you could in theory ensure the countries runways were lined up with the wind. Also it would be rotating quite slowly as a rule so shouldn't make it that much harder to land I imagine. I guess Birmingham would be spinning less fast than saying Cornwall though.

Good point. Okay, I'm very much on board with this. Turn the UK round!

Where I live I can get a Drs appointment really quickly, there has been a massive resurfacing exercise of local roads (that hadn’t been done since 2006 ish). Bins are never missed and are always collected.

Youth unemployment is not just a problem here, it’s happening in many other countries due to factors like automation in office and service sectors like retail. There is a lack of industry and therefore apprenticeships (Tories closed a lot down in the 80s as Thatcher wanted the UK to be a service sector and she hated unions). Hence the North suffered.
Germany is doing well as they invested in their people and their youth unlike us.

Yes our bills are high because again our oil and gas supplies in the North Sea were leased off long term to private companies as was state gas and electricity. Water too, so we are paying a huge amount to share holders instead of reinvesting.

Brexit has made us much poorer.

It is a fact that services are not equally affected throughout UK. Particularly for medical care.
We agree we desperately need to invest in our youth. Make the opportunities for them.

AI translate services are not perfect yet, but as they improve they will be able to replace translators I should think.

I hope so, would be much easier, cheaper and more efficient if we knew we could rely on it

No.
A couple of million idiots voting for Reform. And we can make it a whole lot worse....sadly

It'll be more than a couple of million!

Greenknightsuccess · 09/06/2026 18:45

I think we can turn things around if we focus on longer term solutions.
We need to:
Get closer to the EU
Reform and cut welfare benefits - tighten eligibility, means test, reduce fraud
Control the triple lock
Reduce business regulations
Overhaul the NHS - introduce an insurance based system
Pause net zero until the economy improves
Renationalise water companies
Invest more in infrastructure (rail, energy, broadband, ports)
Reform planning laws
Encourage business investment through tax incentives
Expand nuclear power
Improve government and local government efficiency- cut waste
Deport illegal immigrants
Invest in defence- reduce reliance on the US
Grow more of our own food
Invest in technology

I really do not care about holidays abroad.
I just want to be able to see a GP within two months if it is for a regular appointment, an specialist within 6 months, to be able to drive without massive potholes, have the bins collected at a reasonable interval, reasonable street lighting, feeling safe when walking down the street and actually being safe. And for an average wage to buy you the average house. For young people to be able to get a job, have access to apprenticeships and entry jobs, for hard work to allow you to get a better paid position. In general, for people to be appreciated for a job well done and be able to be proud of what they achieve. And be able to pay the bills, including BOTH food and heating with their hard earned money.
I really believe that most people would choose to work and work hard if it makes sense and you are actually better off.
But the current situation makes it that if you take more work, the only thing you get is more tasks tomorrow and not even a thank you. Sadly, this kind of lazy colleague or manager using the others to get away with doing nothing is quite common. Plus, there is also quite a bit of people anxious and lacking on resilience, that you have to handhold through it. That from my experience. All it needs is a you can do it, let's do it like so and well done at the end. Here is in your report. Next day they are more independant and when they are ready, you rise their salary. And they will keep going happily. If you just pile work on top of work, bark, manage withou any aim or organisation, then employees will leave and nothing will get done.

Edited

Because I want to return but am too worried too! All I ever see is people desperate to leave, scared fo make the wrong decision

Well I’m quite happy here.

Stop watching GBNews, come off Facebook and Twitter. Join a Good News site on Reddit and you may just get to hear about the decent stuff that’s happening here.

DrRylandGrace · 09/06/2026 18:12

It’s not too late yet. However, the necessary measures to improve things won’t be taken so living standards will continue to decline. It’s mostly a question of how fast this happens given that the electorate won’t vote for anything that’s required to make things better for the future.

Greenknightsuccess · 09/06/2026 18:02

Bushmillsbabe · 09/06/2026 17:49

Because we can't provide safe care without people being able to understand us and vice versa. Organising interpreters is time consuming, expensive and inconvenient as they often turn up late.
And more often than not it's women who bring the children we see to their appointments, and many we work with seem not to be allowed to learn English by their husbands, which is wrong.

Bushmillsbabe · 09/06/2026 17:49

charliehungerford · 09/06/2026 09:19

But why do we need to pay for interpreting services? , especially for people who live here. As a previous poster said it’s not usually the case in most European countries. We spend around £75 million a year, that’s a huge amount that could be used elsewhere. If we don’t provide these free services then there is more of an incentive for people who do settle here to learn our language. I can’t imagine living in France if I wasn’t able to speak basic French.

The best suggestions I’ve seen for a long time!!

Can we just train more police officers? Rather than setting our own army on our own citizens? A bit drastic, isn't it? A bit too Trump style.

KookyMoose · 09/06/2026 12:42

Nope, not affluent at all. We lived in a council house which was bought under the Right to Buy scheme. There were 3 teens still living at home, but old enough to be left, so my mom and dad would indeed holiday in Italy and Majorca 2 or 3 times per year. My mom was a part time cleaner so we were not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination.

Ok if you insist, but 3 holidays a year was not common. It became common in the Ryanair era with cheap flights only this century.

But how would the planes land? You'd have to cut out a bit - say Birmingham for example - that remained still whilst the rest of the country rotated around it.

I propose putting the whole thing on a giant lazy Susan so we constantly slowly rotate. It would be a boon to the tourism industry and confuse our enemies.

I am around the same age as you, but I think you remember things with your rose tinted glasses. I hadn’t been abroad before I was 12 and it certainly wasn’t common to have 2 -3 holidays a year unless your family was very affluent of course.
I also view especially the 90s with a sort of nostalgia, but I also think it was because I was actually young and not in my 50s like I am now and had a great time.
