Really Hello Fresh? Jumping on the Pride bandwagon and promoting your high fibre offering to gay men? Utterly grim.

Ah. I'm glad to hear it's only social media. I thought it was a whole TV / Billboard campaign.

It's just inappropriate ! 99% of the time I like tongue in cheek humour but this misses the mark for me

But is it the right kind of headspace?

My reaction was to cancel my subscription.

Lots of people heard of Bud Light but that didn't help their bottom line did it? (Pun unintended...)

Bud is a great example.

Gillette lost so much money with their woke advertising campaign that they took a massive write down of the brand on the balance sheet and then sold it. My husband still won't buy anything Gillette, years later.

ThatBlackCat · 08/06/2026 10:15

What gets me is that July is Disability Month. Will Hello Fresh and other corporates do anything for that? Like fucken hell will they!!!

Dollymylove · 08/06/2026 10:11

Seriously? Are gay men not capable of sorting out their own erŕrm...."needs"?
Do the rest of us really need to know about it?

It's great marketing. I bet everyone on this thread has just given the company about 10 times as much headspace as you normally would. Well done Hello Fresh, and all of us helping to make them relevant by posting on this thread!

Lots of ads are deliberately repulsive at the moment, because that's a good way of lodging them in your brain. The worst offender is that ad for Gaviscon (or some other indigestion aid) that has people singing and miming about diarrhoea. Several toilet paper ads are repulsive in a similar way.

All evidence of civilisation going down the toilet, as t'were.

Completely different.

Those products are quite obviously poo related.

Food shouldn't be (although obviously there's a biological connection, it's really not what you want to be thinking about when eating!)

Looool. Young children won't understand it. But I don't want to awkwardly swerve the truth when my 7 year old reads it and asks what it means. It's just not content that needs to be put in front of them

Why would your seven year old be on social media to see it?

All you say is “we need to eat fibre to stop our tummies being poorly”

NiftyGreenBiscuit · 08/06/2026 10:00

Yuck. 🤢 just yuck

Gerald Ratner got a lot of headspace with his M&S prawn sandwich remark, but it didn't do his sales much good, which surely is the point of marketing?

Edited

His remark was that the jewellery he sold was rubbish.
They subsequently went bust!

I don't like the veiled reference to needing a high fibre diet for anal sex.

i mean, it’s quite encouraged though.
I’m neither gay, nor a man, nor interested in having anal sex myself, and I know that prep in that way is most defo a thing.
people do watch what they eat and they do like to know that their bowel has been emptied recently.
high fibre would certainly help.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/06/2026 09:31

if your young children understand that advert, you are the problem not Hello Fresh, regardless of people's views on the advert. do you really think your child will be like "hey Mommy, do we have to cancel our Hello Fresh delivery cos you and Daddy aren't getting ready for a month of anal sex?" or "oh Mommy, let's order Uncle Steve and Uncle Bobby a Hello Fresh box for Pride, they do like to clear out their bowels before Pride Month!". seriously, What's going on in your house??

in tbeu unlikely event a young child reads the post and asks what they're prepping for "there's lots of parades for Pride Month so it's to help build up their energy".

And I think they've made a big mistake linking a food company in people's minds with that activity and with exposing body parts to faeces. The subliminal message isn't a good one. It reminds me a bit of the Gillette marketing catastrophe.

I hadn’t seen this so I looked it up. Fantastic marketing, 10/10 from me. What don’t you like about it?

Yes, but that headspace, in my case, has been used to change HF from a "maybe try in future, compare with Gousto" to a "poo emoji" in my brain....

extrabeans · 08/06/2026 09:38

It's the US Instagram account which explains the "fiber" spelling. There's a separate UK account.

I must say, I can't get excited about this. I would never have seen the post if it wasn't for this thread, and I didn't understand what it meant until someone explained. 🤷‍♀️

nam3c4ang3 · 08/06/2026 09:36

😂 what a stupid post from them. Even my gay friends found it fucking stupid 😂

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 08/06/2026 09:32

It made me laugh.
i don’t find it massively offensive, but I’m also not gay, so would be happy to be educated should the gay community find it to be.

i’ve used hello fresh on and off a couple of times, never had any issues with quality, and not at all concerned with the meat being halal.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/06/2026 09:31

Darlia96 · 07/06/2026 23:30

If that's real it's pretty awful tbh
Im not prudish, I'm not homophobic, I'm just disgusted by an unfunny joke.

Tabarnak · 08/06/2026 09:13

I was put off by the spelling.

It’s FIBRE.

Pride is now about sex, not sexuality or sexual orientation.

Edited

Only in British English…

But I don’t really want to think about shitting or shagging when thinking about what I’m going to have for tea this week - so it is off putting.

Corryvreckan · 08/06/2026 09:28

Putrid.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/06/2026 09:24

I mean it took the explanation of someone for me to understand 🤣 I thought they meant like eating up loads to build up your energy for lots of sex.
so if it's gone over my head, I'm not really worried about any undue influence on the young, I wouldn't pay much attention as it's not aimed at me and I think, know your market.

itssoeasy · 08/06/2026 09:23

Hahaha!
That's brilliant!
And it's worked hasn't it!
Because you've started a thread about it, got other people looking at it and talking about it....
You've done Hello Fresh a big favour!

And associated it with poo, not the best for a food brand.
