Rainbow colours everywhere

Rainbows everywhere. Hi. I walked into the office building yesterday and rainbow stuff everywhere. Nearby nursery has all rainbow colours on fencing and there was an ambulance with rainbow colours. A bit ridiculous?

Why is there no Straight Pride month. Equality for all.

Is that a serious question?

Greenwitchart · 06/06/2026 17:11

Why does it bother you so much?

Getting annoyed about rainbows is just bizarre.

Unless you are homophobic I can't see why people showing support and celebrating love in all its forms by displaying something colourful is an imposition on your daily life...

CarlottaBeans · 06/06/2026 17:07

My five year old LOVES rainbows, and I’m prepared to bet that it has absolutely fuck all to do with LGBTQIA+ rights.

It’s to do with the fact that they’re fun bright colours. It’s the same reason she likes unicorns, and mermaids, and all manner of other glittery shit.

Plus you know if you let straight men anywhere near organising a straight pride festival it is going to be sexualised to the max and give Pride a run for it's money. Does anyone want a festival of straight male kink?

Edited

Would it though?

I love Kris and Dave from Detroit. They’re so funny and lovely human beings/ old yam tit haters. They put up an annual mahoosive pride arch on their house to piss off the LGBT and rainbow trolls.

I looked them up, hoping they lived in some deep conservative town and I could say that's the way to do it: actually standing up for values that matter to you against the crowd.

But no, they live in one of the most heavily Democratic areas in the US.

This is about as brave as hanging an enormous sign about how much you love the church in Salt Lake City, or a massive Trump banner in deep Maga country, or BLM in Portland, or the CCP in Zhongnanhai. Really sticking it to your neighbours who all agree with you.

When I was at school it felt like pretty much everybody was rabidly homophobic. Now people - presumably by-and-large the same people - are falling over themselves to tell us how much they love gay people. How much of it is heartfelt and how much is just jumping from one bandwagon to another?

Homophobia is still rampant in schools and elsewhere. Hence the significantly higher rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal ideation within the LGBT community.

The conformity is a little embarrassing, I agree.

Think how much more one would learn if every brand took a different interesting cause with different values and ideas.

But it's all the same until the next current thing comes along.

This thread amazes me with its naivety. There was a time when the flag represented something good, recognition of diversity. However it has been kidnapped by a movement that has brought misery to many and whose active hate of women created a world where our hard fought for rights are being eroded. I can never look at the flag again and see harmony.

None of my lesbian friends celebrate pride anymore and all but one have rejected the rainbow.

Their view is mainly that it's been hijacked by the trans movement and they now see it as an aggressive sign of hostility and male dominance.

They generally also feel that attitudes towards the LGB community have worsened due to the inclusion of T.

They don't welcome it at all and no longer see it as a sign of inclusion more a sign that they are not welcome.

I'm not LG or B and have no skin in the game but their feelings on the matter are quite strong.

I have to say that I haven't noticed this at all in my local LGB community. Well, we're very much an LGBT community and have been for a long time, but for comparison's sake I mean that my LGB friends and acquaintances are still very supportive of both pride month and our local pride parade.

We have a strong lesbian presence within our local community- including the head of the charity who organise the pride parade- and I've only really heard this sentiment online. Locally we get a couple of Facebook comments each year about the "inclusion of the T", but it seems to come mostly from straight people. Or at the very least, people who have never been known to be involved in the community even before the modern trans acceptance movement.

I'll be honest, that's what is starting to feel like a hijacking from my point of view, and the perspective of those I know and love.

If we divided the straight male and straight female Pride that would be better. I'm not touching straight male Pride with a bargepole, but straight female Pride could be really fun!

Float one: spicy fantasy novel inspired, buff fairy kings, werewolves and vampires
Float two: just the guy who plays Rupert Cambell-Black in Riders
Float three: dad bods, a whole group of gorgeous chunky guys you'd want to shag but also get the big shop with

😂

😁 Oh, now that sounds better.
I'll be loitering round the Lord of The Rings float with Aragorn and Boromir 😁

Yep let's celebrate men having sex or changing sex, or wearing nappies or bondage gear. Sounds fair enough to me as a woman.

Roystonv · 06/06/2026 16:20

I am sorry but "boo hoo soldiers" is a vile thing to post, probably the most disgusting and unnecessary comment I have read

BigYellowBus · 06/06/2026 16:08

Please explain why it's ridiculous

ExtraOnions · 06/06/2026 16:03

Showing support for communities who have historically suffered from discrimination is no bad things. It was only 60 years ago we were imprisoning gay people.

Rainbows aren’t just a symbol of Pride, it is also significant in Christianity, plus kids love a bright colour.

Does Pride month significantly cause discrimination against heterosexual people… I would argue not.

When complaining about it in Schools or Nursery's, remind yourself that those Children and Young people might have Gay Parents, Grandparents, Sisters, Brothers etc. At high school, how good is it that we put up Rainbows rather than put up with Homophobic bullying.

Other people getting recognition, only bothers those who have had a lifetime of not feeling discriminated against.

A Pride march/party will not solve violence against LGBT. Same as a conference on domestic violence won't solve that either. The perpetrator will do it anyway.

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 06/06/2026 15:43

😭 Yeah, thinking about it, Straight Pride would be a testosterone fuelled nightmare, wouldn't it 😁
Do people on here really want to be walking hand in hand with their DH/DP under a flag, declaring their Pride in being straight?
I don't.
Others not in a relationship would probably be chanting some kind of song and drinking.

If we divided the straight male and straight female Pride that would be better. I'm not touching straight male Pride with a bargepole, but straight female Pride could be really fun!

OP do you also seethe when there are poppies and kneeling sad boo-hoo soldier silhouettes slapped up everywhere in November ?

sontamol · 06/06/2026 15:47

All murders are wrong. No one has a hierarchy of suffering.

Yes they are and no there isn't. But again, the point is that pp was alleging violence against LGBTQ people is a thing of the past.

Tryingtobenormal124 · 06/06/2026 14:08

Happy bright accepting people. How wonderful. Better than all the doom and gloom crap on here as is normal about LGBTQ people.

You are right. There was a thread the other day that the OP refused to do an online order from a supermarket just because it had a flag on the stores app and loads of people agreed and said they would order from somewhere else instead.
