Rainbows everywhere. Hi. I walked into the office building yesterday and rainbow stuff everywhere. Nearby nursery has all rainbow colours on fencing and there was an ambulance with rainbow colours. A bit ridiculous?

Ms. J.K. Rowling! I wasn’t expecting to find you here on Mumsnet!

Thanks for the compliment 😁

DRose3 · 09/06/2026 02:51

Perhaps we should view the flag as representing acceptance.

Especially when there is so much bigotry and hatred being spewed in the UK atm.

More love for our fellow humans can only be a good thing surely.

To the person highlighting the paedophiles, please set aside some time to learn a bit about statistics, sample sizes, and confirmation bias.

Interesting that one of the "greater" things to do doesn't list protecting women's rights.

Just wondering why it has to be a whole month for Pride when every other 'celebrationary' occasion is only for a day.

You could just Google it.

Essentially it started out as a day, but then expanded to a month as it was too difficult to fit everything into a single day. Bill Clinton made it kind of official in the states.

There's also Women's History month, Disability Pride month, Black History month etc

Month long celebration and awareness months are not rare.

Saints days have always been just a day. VE day is remembering a specific date. Are you wanting VE month? St George's month etc? Such an odd comparison to make

So. There's St George's Day, VE Day, St David's Day but Pride Month? Just why?

Not towards homophobes or transphobes in fairness

So how do you balance the homophobic view that Lesbians should have sex with trans women and their female penis?
Or do you agree with the view that these Lesbians are "genital nazi's"?

What kind of equal rights would you deny people that you consider transphobes, for example?

Would you say you model the virtues of tolerance, acceptance and the belief in equality?

I was at a village fete and saw a woman PAINTING a rainbow on to a child's FACE. She painted a UNICORN on another child's face. What colour was the unicorn's mane? ANOTHER fucking rainbow! It made me sick. Solidarity.

I appreciate the joke (and that the rainbow isn’t a Pride one).

But unironically I don’t think any political symbols should be painted on children until they are old enough to have a considered view of the subject. Even causes I agree with like gay rights.

There is plenty of factual evidence detailing the oppression of LGBTQ people. Pride means they are celebrating who they are and the advances in breaking free from that oppression. “Virtue” has nothing to do with it. It’s a display of community, allies, and joy. They are not presenting themselves as victims. They are actively showing up to exercise their rights of free speech and freedom of assembly. Rainbow themed signs and banners are markers of recognition and support. Do people who hate rainbows also hate Christmas decorations in December because they are atheists, Jewish, Buddhist and they hate being assaulted with displays of fairy lights and holly? Honestly, isn’t there some greater issue these rainbow resisters could be complaining about? Something they could work on to make the world better? Save the whales? Crochet blankets for orphans? Pick up litter in the parks?

Interesting that one of the "greater" things to do doesn't list protecting women's rights.

I'm really hoping this is one of those sarcastic posts (it's getting increasingly harder to tell on here 😁)
Cos if not, imagine getting so wound up about rainbows painted onto children's faces 😁

But its all performative.. they aren't actually virtuous. They don't actually support charities they just signal that they have done the bare minimum. In my experience people who tell you that they are good people, are no better than everyone else who doesnt'

Keep telling yourself that.

I have zero tolerance of the disgusting pejorative expression ‘virtue signalling’

First of all, there’s nothing whatsoever wrong with virtue, especially the virtue of belief in equality and human rights.

Secondly there is nothing wrong with signalling those beliefs to others, especially if they are made to feel shame or fear because of who they are.

Finally, the people who sneer at ‘virtue signalling’ are those who do NOT possess the virtues of tolerance, acceptance and the belief in equality. If anyone should feel ashamed it’s them.

It makes me happy,😊

Why does it bother you so much?

Getting annoyed about rainbows is just bizarre.

Unless you are homophobic I can't see why people showing support and celebrating love in all its forms by displaying something colourful is an imposition on your daily life...

I think there is an issue here.

Support is one thing i.e. don't be a dick but forcing people to "celebrate" someone elses sexuality especially in the workplace, schools etc.. is a big ask year on year. If we had a whole month of womens rights with the suffrigists flag colours on all the merch and emails I would be over it after a couple of years as well.

I suspect the real reasons behind pride month are commercial. Rainbows are very attractive and are good for selling products and there is some money in it for the LGBT+ organisations to be the facilitators as well.

I don't know if she found a pot of gold or not but I can tell you what I and many others have found at the end of this LGBTQ+ rainbow....a big pot of shit.

And now you’re sharing your shit with us! No, thank you. But I’m sure you’ll find a place for it,

I suspect it’s because everyone claims oppression now. There’s a general weariness at the victimhood everywhere. Even my teen comes home and said everyone at school is always offended. Words are literal violence, rules are oppression, consequences are injustice. I can’t imagine what it must be like to work in a secondary school right now.

Yes ramming it down people's throats. It's well known that swallowing a rainbow turns you gay. Just stay away from light rain showers and you might be able to keep yourself straight.

What about those little rainbow coloured sweets? Are they Secret Lesbian Pills?

(makes a mental note to buy a few packets next time I go to Spar)

To me the expression means it's empty signalling without any meaning. Stick some rainbows up and consider the job done, with the job being PR points not any attempt to improve life for any minority or oppressed groups or even their employees. Abercrombie and Finch for example make a show of supporting Pride and donating to charity while facing a number of scandals. Footballers in rainbow laces or armbands who then play in countries with horrific human rights standards, including anti same sex laws.

How many companies who plastered Black Lives Matter slogans over things did anything about ensuring more diversity in their recruitment, particularly among their senior management, and continue to flog sweat shop landfill etc.

There will be MPs photographed at Pride who do bugger all the rest of the year.

This is what I mean by virtue signalling.

Likewise the BBC sticks a poppy on everyone at the requisite time and has photo shopped them in where someone hasn't worn one. It just becomes meaningless.
