AIBU to feel rage over tupperware?

DH has a wildly irritating way of emptying the dishwasher...

When it comes to tupperware and fiddly little things to put away (eg. toddler cup lids, lemon juicer, food processor compartments etc.) instead of putting things back in their appropriate cupboard, he just creates a mountain of mess on the drying rack and leaves it "for later" i.e he can't be arsed to finish it properly and instead creates an impossible mess and extra task for me to do before I can tidy up all the other mess leftover from meals/general food cooking/dishes!

We have had the discussion (argument) about this many times. I've asked him to stop doing it, literally leave the stuff in the dishwasher instead of just creating another immediate task that must be done before everything else can be cleaned up. It's SO annoying first thing in the morning to start the day with this big pile of plastic mess and something to do simply because he can't finish the task. His response is if this is my biggest problem with him, aren't we lucky. He's worried if the dishwasher is open too long our children might hurt themself on the door?! It's simply not that big a deal etc etc.

But I am so fed up with him blatantly doing something he knows really fucking pisses me off, plus he's literally going out of his way to create a whole other bigger task for later and me to do than just doing it all quickly in the first place!

About the dishwasher door being left open… I read a book when I was 13 about a lady who tripped over the dishwasher door which was left open by her husband and became a quadriplegic. 😬

I am quite a neat freak and we always put the plastic stuff on the drainer to air dry whilst all the other stuff gets put away. The plastic stuff seems to hold water more than everything else and who has time to dry all the nooks and crannies in the morning rush? Things would end up being put away damp which isn't ideal.

Oh come on gals. Life is too short. Just put the wet cups in the cupboard. Life your life!

But those things never dry in the dishwasher, so you do need to put them out to dry before putting them away?

Totally. There's always a pile of half-dry plastic on the counter right by our dishwasher. He's being really normal.

Jesus this would infuriate me. My DH opens all packaging as if he is a grizzly bear - cereal boxes torn in half etc - and I find that maddening enough.

I would just stop doing the clearing up then if he asks why I’d say “because I need the drying rack, as mentioned a million times”. Lather rinse repeat for the rest of your life.

Ha we have the box thing going on here too drives me mad

I put them on the drying rack too!! The water catches in the lid bits, I empty the dishy in the morning and leave them to dry all day and put them away in the evening if DH doesn't do it first.

Snap!

moderateme · 04/06/2026 22:59

i do this too! The water doesn’t evaporate off plastic so all those bits go on the drainer when I empty the DW. Sometimes I dry them with a tea towel but not normally.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/06/2026 22:47

I tend to dry items like that while coffee is brewing in the morning. If I cba then I toss all the containers into the side of the sink with the drying rack and ignore for a few hours.

FWIW The thread title is misleading. The "Tupperware" isn't the source of the rage. 🤔

westmommy · 04/06/2026 22:36

So for context - we live in a little flat with not much worktop/sink space. I often just empty everything form DW first thing in morning with a teatowel after it's been on the evening before and everything's mostly dry in it overnight. Everything isn't totally soaked, anything that is a little damp could surely just be tea towel dried to get the job done there and then instead of creating an eyesore and mess in our little kitchen...? Although annoying I am laughing at a few PP's agreeing with him and the one about putting it all on his side of the bed - v petty but that exact thought crossed my mind earlier tonight - HA!

Yeah they're too wet, they need to go on the rack. I hate it too, but 🤷‍♀️

Ooooh think how petty you could be. Put the pile of stuff in his bed, or in his sock drawer. 🤣

His reasoning about the door makes no sense, as he could just leave it in there and shut the door?

I'm with you OP. Rage against this awful system. Every time you do something for him, do it half arsed and then say if that's his only problem with you he's so very lucky 😇

VividDeer · 04/06/2026 22:25

Sorry I'm with your dh. We place all the plastic bits on the drainer to dry.
