To be cringed out by this (re sharing a takeaway)

When me and partner get a takeaway and share it he is obsessive over making sure we get half each, he will literally count pieces of chicken in a curry for example - how would this make you feel ?

I’d rather someone fair than someone who takes the bigger cut.

santamole · 04/06/2026 20:48

Get your own separate takeaways in future.

I'm giving the benefit of the doubt, and assuming he is scrupulously fair, and doesn't baggy the best bits or bigger portions for himself!

TheBlueKoala · 04/06/2026 20:48

@Cloudyonasunnyday Since you say he's stingy then yes it's cringy. But what the heck are you doing with a stingy man? That's the major ick here.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 04/06/2026 20:46

Ew.

allthegoldicouldeat · 04/06/2026 20:45

Wouldn't apply to me, as I take the Joey Tribiani stance on sharing food.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/06/2026 20:45

Like with kids

you divide it and he can pick which plate he wants

tho that won’t stop the counting

Can’t stop laughing at this do similar when I dish tea up

it’s just to make sure one person doesn’t get the shit portion of just sauce and no meat
rather than I don’t want anyone else getting more than me
I do it all the time never thought anything about it

The op isn't talking about one portion of just sauce and no meat though. She's talking about her partner counting to ensure each plate has exactly the same amount of chicken. Do you honestly count out the pieces of meat in something like a curry to make sure each portion is identical?

Cloudyonasunnyday · 04/06/2026 20:32

Good point - I think just a rough measurement of half using one’s eyes. Not counting pieces but I get your point

Omg it doesn’t need a counting out to be fair

how about as much as you need

people that down this clearly feel hard down by somewhere in the past - very weird - it’s not like he’s sharing nuggets - he’s actually picking pieces out in a curry - very weird

Sprig1 · 04/06/2026 20:44

I think it's ok. It's nice to be fair.

We changed our regular order of special fried rice to Young Chow fried rice because it’s easier to split fairly. My partner likes equally of protein.

Pinkflamingo10 · 04/06/2026 20:42

Let me guess he makes you pay for half aswell ??!!!

Soupdragon3 · 04/06/2026 20:31

Maybe he is showing you he is being fair?

You can’t win on here, the amount of posts where one partner snaffles as much take away leaving the other starving and now this where its seen as wrong.

How would you like him to divide the food?

This. Is he counting because he’s a mnetter who knows he’ll be called an abusive food hogger if he has 6 bits of chicken and you have 5?

ohyesido · 04/06/2026 20:38

I’d tell him to eat the whole thing if it means that much to him and get my own food

TheyGrewUp · 04/06/2026 20:38

MIL counts food. It's rude.

spideysmumma · 04/06/2026 20:37

ICK

GooseCreekandtheRiver · 04/06/2026 20:36

Maybe he’s just not good at estimating it by eye.

Maybe he was told off for not being fair when doing it as a child.

Feels like a weird thing to be bothered by.

LimbOnTheTreeTheTreeInTheHoleTheHoleInTheGround · 04/06/2026 20:36

You need to get one of those massive balance scales for next takeaway night. Make sure its all totally even.

ShedWithGooglyEyes · 04/06/2026 20:28

Next time start counting out the grains of rice.

😂

there is a middle ground between scoffing the lot and weighing out portions….

7238SM · 04/06/2026 20:36

Unless he has some sort of mental illness such as OCD, this would be a massive turn off for his pettiness. 'Maybe' he was told off before or someone said something and he thinks this is how to ensure an equal share? Personally, it would drive me nuts and is not normal, adult behaviour.

Does he also calculate shared bills to the penny also? 🤔

nowaynohowz · 04/06/2026 20:35

I do this. It’s nothing about being tight, it’s just the easiest and quickest way for me to see I’ve dished it out fairly. (Edited to add - I do have OCD…this may be relevant information 😂 )

Maybe he was criticised in a previous relationship for taking more than his share?

Or maybe you have form for snaffling way more chicken and he’s just trying to get his share 😁

Haha maybe !

Funnily enough he’s an only child

Ah ok. Is the takeaway a bit stingy with the chicken?
I have had a prawn curry from one place, and there was a grand total of 8 prawns in it. If I was sharing, I would want to make sure we had the same.
