To be totally APPALLED by how Robinson referred to Henry Nowak in his “speech” in Southampton on Tuesday?

I’ve just seen a clip of this in a Guardian article on the main agitators in Southampton on Tuesday.
TR refers to Henry Nowak in this way: “White privilege?! Does Henry swear word beginning with F Nowak look as if he had white privilege when he was lying on the floor?”
He then smirks as he looks down, clearly proud of himself for delivering such an eloquent speech [sarcasm].
I’m beyond disgusted by how the name of this beautiful young man, who has lost his life in the most brutal way, was used in such a disrespectful way in order to rouse a rabble and boost TR’s ego.
AIBU to say that over the last two days TR, NF and their ilk are really showing us who they are and what motivates them?

Imagine your 18 year old child is called Sally Potter.

Imagine she’s brutally murdered and a horrifying clip of her final moments broadcast for everyone to see.

Imagine the country’s most controversial political rabble rouser hijacking her murder for his own reputational gain and making a speech at a protest referring to her as

“Sally Fucking Potter”

How would you feel? Is this acceptable?

If it was my 18 year old son, murdered I. The same way and in the same circumstance as Henry Nowak then it would be me making a similar speech. I wouldn’t need Tommy Robinson to do it for me. But, no, I wouldn’t find it unacceptable.

Why do you care? All of this attention on an angry ‘cokes’ up man completely detracts from the actual problem itself. Just ignore them and focus on the problem at hand.

Most people capable of being concerned about more than one thing at a time. Robinson is a vile shit stirrer and dangerous and someone to be concerned about. YMMV.

lornad00m · 04/06/2026 13:38

Tommy Robinson saying something appalling is hardly breaking news.

It's pretty on brand.

He's vile.

He used the word Fuck to “punctuate” Henry Nowaks’s name.

Yes, and? It wasn't said referencing Henry in a derogatory or insulting way, it was to emphasise his point/speech/words.

For the record I think TR should have respected Henry's parents wishes. But I also cant help but wonder if Id also say the same just because its expected. I also wouldnt be surprised if they were asked to say what they did tbh.

They are total cunts for seeking divisive political capital from a young man’s murder.

And you are playing right into their hands by being pissed off about it.

Poor taste to use the word like that. But, as vile as TR is. His point is sound here.

Focusing on an offensive word in this context rather than the poor lads death is everything wrong with how we go about things in example.

This.

I found it worrying listening to some of the police spoke people and politicians on radio 4 it was all it's tragic but everythings fine nothing to see here.

I follow the FWR boards and know GC people - more usually women - have been treated very differently from others.

The desperate need to shut up the people speaking out in out in Rochdale because race was inconvenient - served no-one well in the end.

Do the guidleines need adjusting is training needed who knows but I'd like someone independent to look and have a think how things could be improved. I know the met force has a huge issue with how it treates ethic minorities, women and diabled people but that doens't mean another force may have another bias.

People with different political beliefs can still have sound points occaionally and while the left likes to try and claim moral high ground can be as blinkered and wrong as those of the right sometimes.

We get your point. We just think it’s stupid and irrelevant.

Who is "we"?
Some of us are perfectly capable of holding more than one thought at a time

OP's question is very relevant

I'm not a fan of Mr Robinsons or his turn of phrase, but in the grand scheme of Henrys murder and the appalling policing involved i'm saving "TOTALLY APPALLED " for Henrys repulsive murderer and the disgusting policing involved.
Words seem unimportant when weighed against what happened to Henry at the hands of his murder and the police, just my opinion.

Of course a human life is more significant than any words around it. But my OP is about a very significant aspect of the subsequent protests in Southampton on Tuesday, in which context words are very important indeed.

You need to warm down after that huge stretch. Some people want the balance to finally be smack bang in the middle - no favours or castigation to ANY race or religion.

So I assume that you are against the racial profiling and injustice of black and brown people, which is a much bigger problem in this country?

I wonder if you were just as vocal about racial injustice on these threads when highlighting the issues that involve non-white people.

why are you wasting your energy on nitpicking what TR has said? Don’t you think it’d be more productive to be complaining to Hampshire Police and other governing bodies about their appalling treatment of Henry?

I have no time for Nigel Farage and so little for T. Robinson it would fit on a pinhead. However, it is very obvious that Henry Novak died as he did because the police are steeped in the idea that white privilege exists and that accusations of racism must always be believed. I am not sure where in the minutes when Henry Novak's life ended that the police realised he was bleeding to death, but a by-stander points out to them that his mouth is full of blood and the officers take no notice, whilst agreeing with Digwa's brother (or Digwa, not entirely clear) that Henry Novak has NOT been stabbed - though how they can know that or know that he knows that is obscure.

Thats true about the way he died

The horrible fact is also that even if they had got him medical attention straight away, he would have died, a medic in the case confirmed he would not have survived the stabbing no matter what treatment he had.

The police actions didnt cause him to die but they caused him to die in an incredibly undignified, frightening, painful manner that might have been avoided he medical care had been forthcoming. I dont know if that is true though.

I've not seen this, but it does sound awful.

The march was never about Henry Nowak though. His parents have released a statement saying that they don't want his murder to fuel division and asking for there not to be protests.

To me, going ahead against the wishes of his grieving parents shows the motives more than any language. It's thay which disgusts me most.

Assuming you mean that TR is spot on in debunking any idea about white privilege. Henry Novak was treated as he was by the police because he was white and a brown man accused him of racism. And you can hear that happening on the bodycam footage - if you can bear to watch it.

Maybe the police involved should be jailed as well as sacked?

Im not a fan of Mr Robinson but if thats what you are "APPALLED" at in the matter of Henry Novaks murder and the police handling of this matter there is something very ,very wrong with you......

I’m appalled by everything but that’s not what my post is about. Do you understand that?

Some posters don’t understand that there’s a particular aspect of this tragedy I wanted to raise - they just seem to have spotted the key words and had a kneejerk response to it.

Unfortunately the liberal left are to blame for the rise of these unsavoury right parties. When the educated and privileged classes shut down debate and gaslight ordinary people, like they have for decades, the anger and frustration only goes one way.

The left have always said that uncontrolled mass immigration was great, the EU was great and that the country was benefitting, but ordinary hard working people just saw their towns degrading, their services degrading, British life being eroded and seeing more unfettered and unhealthy cultural influx but no politicians addressing it satisfactorily.

When politicians and people in authority lie and whitewash what people are seeing with their own eyes, in their own communities, they will turn to extreme parties and anyone speaking honestly who echo their frustrations and feelings.
