Political badges should be banned from NHS uniforms

New report says political badges such as Pro Palestine shouldn't be worn on NHS uniforms. It's led to increased antisemitism and fear amongst Jewish patients.

Also NHS uniforms not to be worn on protests.

This report makes a number of suggestions and in my opinion must be implemented. All political badges off NHS uniforms. No NHS uniforms on protests such as pro Palestine. It contributes to racism and fear.

The NHS should treat all patients equally and individuals political opinions shouldn't be pinned on their uniforms.

Anyone is a position of responsibility for others (outside politics) including healthcare workers, teachers, police, local government workers etc should portray neutrality and commitment to genuine inclusiveness in their role. So no lanyards, badges, slogan clothes etc

Inclusiveness should mean including, not attempting to persuade (at best) or intimidate.

Totally.

The badges are showing political opinions and an attempt to persuade or (as the report shows) intimidated.

Maybe it depends on the school. They are very strict in my kids' school and the only indoctrination is the importance of attendance, as well as zero tolerance on racist or sexist abuse.

There have been local issues with this exact issue. Albiet the clash of LGBT and religious (rather than racism) rights. If the 'diversity' council is headed by a religious individual do they have the right to ban Pride events? Is it ok when challenged to say "We don't do that batty boy round here no more bruv" and slap someone on their bottom? Apparently this is fine and a "cultural difference"
The 'incident' at Batley Grammar left a lot of schools and teachers terrified and guidance is very poor:

Khan review: Teacher in blasphemy row was ‘totally and utterly failed’

Review documents how authorities ‘failed’ to protect a religious studies teacher forced into hiding and fearing for his life after Prophet Muhammad cartoon incident

Totally agree - and that includes the rainbow sign, especially as the NHS stance on trans people is seen by many as an issue. And nobody felt the need to virtue signal before they came into prominence.

I always find the ‘youre safe with me’ badges ironic. It makes me feel the opposite. Then add in the staff who literally rattle with all there added extras. After working in hospitals many years ago I remember infection control staff being extremely rigid with handwashing etc, and yet some staff literally glow with all the rainbow stuff! All public orientated services should absolutely be apolitical, focus on what your job is instead of your expression of identity.

I agree that no political slogans or badges of any kind should be worn on a NHS uniform. But, as an aside being pro Palestine does not equate in any way to anti semitism. As many posters have also pointed out on multiple threads, Jewish people in the UK are not responsible for Israeli war crimes, hence this is not directed at them.

Sadly, there is antisemitism in the NHS, the report shows that and Jewish people even avoid treatment and have been subjected to antisemitism in the NHS. Hence the report suggests keeping political opinions out of work, no badge wearing.

Good for them. Again personal political opinions shouldn't be foisted on children.

Same here. I can’t believe this is allowed and needs a report.

I agree. It's ridiculous that this needs saying. It seems obvious really, healthcare should be treating all equally. However, it does since many individuals wear these badges which cause fear and increase antisemitism.

I wish this was the case for the schools around us.

MalteserGeezee · 04/06/2026 08:44

I can't believe this bullshit was ever tolerated tbh.

I can’t see why they were ever allowed.

I agree.

The same should hold for schools. Some schools are hotbeds of indoctrination.

Greenwitchart · 04/06/2026 08:43

I have no idea why people thought it was OK to wear any kind of political badge at work in the first place and it makes sense to ban them.

This is the result of "taking your whole self to work".

Nope it's work. Just go there, do your job and come home and be your whole self there. Angry

Exactly, keep your politics out of work. The report looks at antisemitism in the NHS. Some individuals are clearly unable to separate politics abroad and individuals in the UK who have nothing to do with what occurs elsewhere.

Absolutely. A workplace is not the arena to signal political affiliations, especially when you're dealing with the public. Do all that on your own time.

Soontobe60 · 04/06/2026 08:36

The same should hold for schools. Some schools are hotbeds of indoctrination.

A teacher at a Grammar school near us did a persuaive writing exercise with year 9 where they all had to write and ask our MP to "stop the Genocide in Gaza"
I think a lot of people are very naive as to the extent of what has been going on.

ThatsNicer · 04/06/2026 08:41

Start with removing the Rainbow Lanyards.

Brunchatstephanies · 04/06/2026 08:41

Completely agree, what has happened in Palestine is genocide and the perpetrators of genocide should be brought to justice and fully punished with the full rigor of the law.

But the way that protestors are overlooking the very complex history and nuance of the region is mind bogglingly awful. Iran has destabilised the region by funding the most despicable terrorist organisations imaginable, who could not give a shit about their own people, in service of blowing Isreal from the face of the Earth

The Jewish people outside of Isreal are being treated hatefully in service of this shit.

While personally I couldn’t give a shit about rainbow lanyards they should be a casualty of this too. The trans ideology is extremely divisive and not based on anything logical or rational so it needs to be saved for activists to do outside of workplaces as should be tolerated in any democracy but not for mainstream non political organisations.

I'm surprised. You wouldn't be allowed badges of any sort on a school uniform either. And I very much doubt teachers could wear political badges into class.

Good. Why some NHS employees felt this was ever appropriate reflects on them. Very unprofessional.

Badges, lanyards, stickers, decor - should all be uniform.

I agree. Also NHS uniforms shouldn't be worn on protests. A woman showed on report wearing Palestinian flags, Palestinian headscarf, NHS uniform and mask to cover her face. Wrong. The NHS is not to be used.

NO stop using the NHS which is for treatment not politics.
