To ask would you expect someone to look very different if they had lost 13 stone

Or not

Depends on where they started. At 40 stone, 13 stone wouldn't make a lot of difference visibly.

Me too, I’d be imagining swathes of skin hanging from abdomen, arms and back!

mindutopia · 03/06/2026 18:57

Well, yes, of course. I am fat and I’m 15 stone. That’s basically an entire fat 5’9 adult woman give or take a bit. I’d expect someone to look like a completely different person. I know someone who lost a lot of weight on WLIs. I honestly didn’t recognise her. I thought she’d sold her business to an entirely different person.

Takoneko · 03/06/2026 18:57

Nobody loses 80+kgs without looking substantially different. They might not look thin, but they will look different. I follow sumo and even with very large men, you can notice a visible difference with far smaller weight gains and losses than that.

CelticSilver · 03/06/2026 18:51

I halved my weight from 26st to 13st. I got a lot of 'Congra ... tulations?' especially because I lost loads of hair too.

Scalessayeek · 03/06/2026 18:43

I went from 21.5 to 11.5. I went from a 22/26 in size to 10/12!

JaneLupin · 03/06/2026 18:29

I’d expect someone to look very different after that amount of weight loss even if they were very obese to begin with.

Dinutaseat · 03/06/2026 18:28

It depends what they weighed to begin with. If they were extremely obese - e.g. 40 stone - then people are likely to 'categorise' them as 'obese' and not notice weight loss while the person remains obese, as much as they would if the person weighed, say, 22 stone and the 13 stone loss brought them down to a healthy weight.

Theseagullsarenowclouds · 03/06/2026 18:27

Yes, I know someone who lost a massive amount of weight and it took me a while to get used to seeing their new "look" at parkrun.

Rizzz · 03/06/2026 18:24

It appears to be yet another silly post and run with no context.

YourPoliteTurtle · 03/06/2026 18:24

People already look a lot different when they lose 2 or 3 stones, so what's a strange question

I assume it was supposed to be a joke or sarcasm or maybe they think they are making some sort of point.

Error404FucksNotFound · 03/06/2026 18:22

Yes. How could they not?

Even if they started off at 40 stone, losing 13 would still be obvious.

No. If someone think you look different t they are just fat phobic.

trendysetter · 03/06/2026 18:11

Yes, I would expect them to look like a completely different person.

Silverbirchleaf · 03/06/2026 18:11

I know someone who has lost ten stone, and she looks a slimmer version of her former self . I know other people who have lost a couple of stone (in the past by dieting) and I’ve hardly recognised them.

SilenceInside · 03/06/2026 18:10

Yes. I am very curious if this is about you or someone else @Weighloss777?

AnonymityAnonymity · 03/06/2026 18:10

Why are you asking OP?

Have you lost a lot of weight and people, or one person in particular, haven't acknowledged the fact?

EdinaTheConfessor · 03/06/2026 18:09

Seend · 03/06/2026 18:08

I refuse to answer until you come back
to give more detail and context!

This!

Rizzz · 03/06/2026 18:02

Yes obviously.

Why such a tiny opening post?

Is there something you'd actually like to discuss?

OpheliaNightingale · 03/06/2026 18:01

I lost 4 pounds and my colleagues noticed!

CagedBirdInACage · 03/06/2026 18:00

WhereYouLeftIt · 03/06/2026 17:59

Depends.

If they started at 25 stones, yes of course.
If they started at 60 stones, maybe not.

Why do you ask?

I was going to say this. If you started at 35st and lost 13 then maybe not but if you start at 22st then sure I'd expect that losing over half their body weight would make a big difference.

Cookingandfoldingthings · 03/06/2026 18:00

Pretty much anyone would look massively different (even the super morbidly obese person)

Congratulations to @peakygull aren’t you marvellous

@Goodnessyoualldashoffdontyoureppies I’d also be wondering about the cost and the skin! would also hope that there wasn’t an awful underlying illness to blame.

Nonetheless I think I’d be pleased for them.
