To wonder why so many male migrants have committed sexual assaults:even if they are evil people, wouldn't staying in the UK be an incentive to abide by the law?

I KNOW that plenty of the men who come are not evil and don't want to commit sexual assault. But clearly a number who have come are, and there's strong evidence that male migrants are disproportionately lileky to do so.

This almost surely at least partly caused by misogynistic culture in various areas meaning back home they perceived uncovered women as permissible to assault. But surely they know it's different here? That they will likely be caught? They are at least more likely to be punished here for assault.

Or are they convinced our police system will let them off?

Or they're not aware our norms are different?

Or just don't care about the consequences?

I wonder also if criminals are in a sense selected for since they may have little to tie them to their home countries, or even be escaping punishment there.

I actually agree. I worked in those hotels when the protests were happening and all they did was traumatise already traumatised little kids. It was incredibly cruel as many of the hotels house women and children who have suffered terrible things and children who were still screaming at night after experiencing bombing The way to address this is through the proper channels. Writing to your MP etc. Im actually pretty please with Shabana Mahmoods policies. They really should help. My view is that we should simply do what we did with the Ukrainians. Homes for refugees but just women and children with no way to bring adult male members. In this way we can compassionately help the most vulnerable and ensure integration as they will spend the first 6 months living in British Homes and being helped by those who have volunteered and who have cultural capital.
Better still, rural areas should be prioritised so that refugees have no choice but to become completely immersed in British Culture.

Mahmood’s policies are and will do the opposite of what you’re after. They will pretty much stop women and children applying.

Thank you. It’s certainly the hatred upsets me most - I actually don’t think that even if a hotel housed a full set of criminals that we should try and attack/burn it down - I don’t think it’s great for our society - it isn’t part of our values and it saddens me - there are other ways.

It is particularly horrible for traumatised people - it must have been hard to work there. One counter protest at a hotel I attended that should have been the day they played footie with other local teams - obviously they were locked down. This doesn’t help with integration though and nor does hearing folk screaming ‘paedo’ ‘go home’ either tbf. I counter this to let them know some folk are ok here. But there are many better ways to protest.

I actually don’t like Labour’s immigration rhetoric or policies - but I’m ok to agree to differ on that - what I’m not sure about is that these policies are addressing people’s concerns, directly, and reducing immigration massively - what else is required?

trueredstart · 03/06/2026 10:26

@Dmsandfloatydress It's a nice, idyllic idea but it would not work.

Homes for refugees but just women and children with no way to bring adult male members.
The problem is that the rest of the world sends their men, not their women. They are not the same as us.

Better still, rural areas should be prioritised so that refugees have no choice but to become completely immersed in British Culture.
They've ruined the cities, and now we should ruin the last bastions of British culture? No thanks.

We don’t keep the data which is why there’s no ‘proof’. So it’s easy to demand evidence knowing full well this isn’t recorded. Sweden is trying to get a grip on it but there’s radio silence where a proper government run study should be.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-45269764

Think you need to read the full article instead of posting selectively.

“But Sweden had thousands more reported rapes, and there is no ethnic breakdown for those”.

"We are very clear in the programme that it is a small percentage of the people coming from abroad who are convicted of rape," chief editor Ulf Johansson told the BBC.
He pointed out that the number of reported rapes in Sweden was far higher, so no conclusions could be drawn on the role of immigrants in sexual attacks.”

Don’t be so bloody ridiculous. This very voluntary and deliberate faux confusion over ‘X men are more likely to offend than Y men’ and ‘Y men never offend at all’ is absolutely pathetic.

I’m asking genuine questions - and I’m not pretending men of any nationality don’t violently and abhorrently abuse women - this is the biggest issue - don’t you pretend it doesn’t happen.

Actually main differences seem to be money/power - in that it seems to be your average foreign guy caught for such crimes, and having the whole of his nation villified for it - but often here/the west it’s the higher placed guys who get away with more as they can cover and get it covered up and no one considers villifying all white men.

I actually think migration is a global problem that should be addressed globally. We have to understand it will not stop - humans have always migrated plus there are wars and also the climate is making some places uninhabitable (reasons not for debate here).

This is obviously a naive hopeless idea I just daydream about, so in reality yes every country has to consider details of migration- hopefully some can work together.

I also think governments of every shade should be more honest about immigration- reasons, facts (the illegal asylum claimants really does grind my gears for eg).

Hatred is useful for rich and/or powerful people - it sows division and stops anyone looking at what they are doing.

I despise the hatred - I will never accept that an asylum claimant doing an abhorrent crime means folk should gather round other hotels being vile, attempt to break in, and even set fire to them.

Protest properly against the government- against the fat cats making the money off it.

Whilst this hatred and division continues there will never be a rational discussion as people are polarised and either side of debate feels nearly obliged to defend it beyond even reason at times.

I find the mixed approach odd. On one hand there is talk of upholding laws and oth Labour pushes for riot gear on French beaches. But on arrival this switches. What a mess.

Plus the vast networking and criminality which has unsurprisingly grown due to laws from last century, it’s a multi billion trade. It’s profitable to the point it’s run with marketing and as I just heard people sign legal disclaimers before passage.

On your point being honest about migration and how many we’d need to take in the next few decades to share it globally could be said, but idk if people would just accept whatever that is.

Absolutely - but its a reflection of many factors:

  • malnutrition affecting development
  • poor education
  • western testing methods

Its not necessarily a reflection of underlying potential/capacity, its focussed on a very academic system.

Interesting survey here of 71 experts on causes of tested IQ group difference. Very few researchers think it’s either 100% nature or 100% nurture.

“Education was rated… as the most important cause of international ability differences. Genes were rated as the second most relevant factor but also had the highest variability in ratings. Culture, health, wealth, modernization, and politics were the next most important factors, whereas other factors such as geography, climate, test bias, and sampling error were less important.“

It’s a very male centric system and laws exist to ensure they can get here at the same time as many policies trying to stop them.

There’s a vast profit made too, listening to a piece on this rn on R4, women compelled to have sex to pay for passage.

And if the response is more safe routes then some idea of how many places should be offered to meet the demand for how many would like to be here.

This.
I cannot understand why father, brother, uncle, son, allow this happen to their female family members. I can only assume they think that it works, it benefits them, it entitles the to use and hurt women outside of their family and sometimes in families, uncle buying young niece for marriage. Absolutely stomach churning.
The amount of children being trafficked from these countries around Europe now is equally disturbing.

Yes.

Very very disturbing things happened to British captives in the hands of the Taliban that have never really been published.

Not to mention aid workers also kidnapped.

Yet their own men, in their numbers, are ‘too scared’ apparently

We should never have invaded any countries in the ME. I feel desperately sorry for the women and children, and some of the men, but we can’t turn the clock back. Thankfully the govt seem to have got the memo with their lack of action in Iran. But that doesn’t mean we should open the floodgates and allow the entire population of Afghanistan to come here.

I agree on invasions. We wouldn’t be letting the entire population in though - the Taliban are quite happy there - most of the world’s refugees remain in bordering countries - actually not every single Afghan looking to go to Europe would come here.

It is also pretty impossible to go against the Taliban - it’s not the French resistance in WW2 supported by many other countries. No other country troubles about the place do they.

Yes, the stats sound appalling - the Taliban themselves are responsible for how it is there mainly - and there is nothing much any resistors to the regime can do about it.

You seem to have a real issue with Afghan men - no other nationalities? we promised their safety when they helped us in the war though so there’s that to consider. They are not all bad - no group is - integration could be trialled - many people have asked about Homes for Afghans similar to Homes for Ukrainians but that was never picked up by the government- that may have helped.

We are not importing people ffs - they’re not cattle -,with asylum we are meeting our obligations under UNCHR, other international laws, and even abiding by our own case law on the matter.

I mean I could go on and say we hardly helped matters in Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq lately but that’s too big a concept here I think.

If you’re talking about legal migration we are still not ‘importing’ - people apply to come here, for various reasons, and they are granted entry or refused.

Yes we do need to integrate people better.

I’m perfectly capable of holding 2 thoughts but that does not mean this. Afghan men are hideously misogynistic and their country comes out time and time and time again as the worst in the world for women who are treated like dirt. I make NO apologies for blaming THE MEN for how THE WOMEN are treated.

And yes they are cowards who ran away when given the best opportunity to defend their country that they had ever had. Because they don’t give a shit.
