Silly little things to make life better...

... so not hugely necessary. But say you eat a pizza at a restaurant and you can't quite finish it all. Rather than a full-sized pizza box, can you please give me a half-sized one that I can fit in my handbag please?*

*only applies to more mainstream restaurants, I know that kebab/chicken places will jam anything into a small polystyrene/single use plastic container.

Just a little thing to make the world turn more easily. Also although I get the kids' menu and the discount, can we all please order smaller portions if we wish? Ta!

In Aldi, when they sell two varieties in one box for the flavour split to reflect what people actually buy, not 50/50. So you don't get half a box left of the flavour nobody wants and they won't fill the shelf until people have bought what's there. Which they won't do, because all that is left is the flavour that nobody wants.

No. Zero apps for parking. Just a machine that accepts contactless payment as well as notes and coins, and gives change.

It is quite useful to be able to extend parking time from your phone when you are e.g. sat waiting to see the GP who is running late.

See also misogyny. Every time a male breathes out of line someone rushes to MN to call them out on being misogynistic.

iced coffee makes the world better! (Home made)

Nescafe concentrate espresso, 60ml instead of suggested 30ml if you're brave, 8-10 drops of MyProtein Vanilla or Toffee Flavouring (sugar free, so delicious) 30ml skimmed milk, 270ml water with ice. Had it this morning. It was lovely.

YY to M&S putting the large shoes on the top shelf and the small ones on the bottom shelf. Not so long ago, I helped a 5' ish woman get some little shoes off the top shelf and then had to cram my 5'8 long legs down in the little gap between the shelves and the seat to get some size 41 shoes off the bottom shelf.

Also YES! to sorting out the size 7/8 40/41/42 mess and a single parking app or preferably just use contactless and ban 'convenience fees' for paying by card which is a fucking cheek because they don't need to go round and collect all the money and risk having it stolen. The worst parking apps have a load of hidden fees preselected then you wonder why it says on the board your parking should cost £3.40 but when the charge is shown it's £4.80. Because they've decided you not only want to pay for parking, but for a text to tell you about your parking, the option to extend your parking time and a reminder when you parking is coming to an end Angry

CountryGirlInTheCity · 03/06/2026 08:41

That packaging you get when you buy cooked meats etc - you’re supposed to pull back one corner and the top peels away easily. It never does - I end up with a plastic corner in my hand and the seal still firmly closed. Could we sort that please?

I would like taking the kitchen bin out of the container to be a lot easier. I’m always struggling with it, maybe as I’m quite short. It should have a little door or something.

Also on the boot of my car you have to press a button to open and close it electronically but the button is really high up and I struggle to reach it. Why not have the button low down, on the side somewhere.

Have you checked your fob to see if theres a boot button there? Don't wish to patronise but its exactly the sort of thing I'd miss!

I would like the world to stop using words like privilege and racism at every freakin opportunity. It makes me absolutely insane to see these two words thrown around, constantly, with no rhyme or reason.

Just the small things.

Multi packs of crisps to all taste the same, hate it when you eat one bag and it's so tasty you go for a 2nd pack and it's not so fresh tasting.
They should also contain a little mousetrap so when I'm being a greedy cow it snaps on my fingers when I dive in for a third pack.
My local pizza place makes square pizzas to fit in the square boxes, that should be universal.
Websites need to get rid of the annoying 44 thingy when you type your phone number in, I can never remember which numbers I need to leave off.
A universal password requirement, X numbers/ special characters/ capitals etc. Fed up of having to alter my usual passwords and then forgetting them instantly.
A car sound system that lowers the volume when you're at a junction, I live by a crossroads and fed up of having my ears assaulted by really loud music which isn't my taste.
I love a good moan 😅

Get a car with the boot closer on the key fob 😄

https://www.lincolntowbarcentre.co.uk/accessories/electric-boot-opener/

Like this aftermarket one 😄😄😄

Edited

Even better get a car which has a sensor under the back which you wiggle your foot at and the boot opens.

I would like spray bottles of glass cleaner to be the same size as other cleaners, not bigger. So all fit in the same cupboard space

ALL spray to be 5cm shorter so they fit in my cupboard.

Not having lots of different apps for parking . Just one please.

Fairly sure that they end up scalding the milk in things like lattes etc. Also, coffee shouldn't be made with boiling water

Nope. I always have a latte and a competent batista can make a not lukewarm coffee without ruining the taste.

I am one (barista) and there is a temperature where the milk scalds, so many people al for extra hot, not knowing it ruins the coffee. Drives me bonkers. 😝

If cafes would give you a glass of water along with your hot drink like they do in some European countries.

You can ask for this!

I would say the same about the words sexism, ageism and Women's rights being eroded, being thrown around all the time on Mumsnet. Makes me absolutely insane.

Just the small things....

workinghardhardlyworking · 03/06/2026 08:26

I would like one socket/plug type across Europe. I would also like a unified laptop/phone charger. I have so many stupid cables.

JulieJo · 03/06/2026 08:26

All food cans to be properly stackable. Eg. Soup and baked beans, so they don't fall out of the cupboard and break your toes. Tesco manage to do this, why can't Heinz.
All houses having their name / number on the gatepost if they have a drive so that anyone visiting or delivering can easily find the correct property, it would help emergency services too.
Food items being a standard height so they fit on the shelf that I placed at a height that worked at the time I had the kitchen fitted.

Bertiebiscuit · 02/06/2026 23:16

Those lotus biscuits you occasionally get with your coffee in nice cafés, like a little present

DH used to buy these in bulk off Amazon before the supermarkets here started stocking them (around 15 years ago probably)

I would also like size 8 shoes to be EITHER a 41 or 42 , not both

Preach!

TheGander · 03/06/2026 08:19

Being able to open windows in an office, also a Premier Inn, a hospital, basically anywhere you have to spend more than half an hour. These days they all seem to be nailed shut. Why, for the love of God?

Ifeeltheneedtheneedforcoffee · 03/06/2026 08:15

Standard sizing for clothes across all retailers. I dont eant to have to try on or online order 3 different sizes each time.
And stop adding length to trousers legs. Im an average height and never had to take trousers up. Now they are so long im starting to buy short size.
.....unless im actually shrinking 🤔

@Sux2buthen you can buy duvet clips for this. They are a game changer.

I’d like to be able fast forward through the ads by just tapping my AirPods instead of having to traipse around looking for my phone when they start on about AG1 and Better Health for the millionth time.

What type of duvet clips do you use that don't pierce the duvets?

MrsMontyD · 03/06/2026 08:13

I once worked somewhere where we got paid every four weeks on a Friday, the first pay day was a bit of a shock (13 pay days) but once I got used to it the regular pattern was great.

notacooldad · 03/06/2026 08:13

My newer model has a shark fin and I can't add a bobble. I don't want anything that might damage the paintwork. It seems an impossible task. My car is incredibly common, and black. I spend so long looking for it in car parks.
I always take a photo of things nearby as a reference in huge car parparks!!

notacooldad · 03/06/2026 08:11

I try to hard-boil my eggs most of the time, but sometimes, if I'm out and about and I need a bit of sustenance I will buy some hard-boiled eggs. I think they should come with a little packet of salt attached to the side of them.
And pepper!
