They can literally afford to fix this issue.

Enough is enough.

Prayers for Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡© and to all those suffering across the world.

Billionaires help create wealth and help employ lots of people who can feed their family.

MH relative is a SWE at Amazon.

@user1471453601
How would you like to pay under 4% of your pay in income tax? this is how much Amazon pays on its UK profits in the UK.
does that sound reasonable to you?

What is your solution to make Amazon pay more tax?

Demanding that billionaires help humans who are suffering and can't affoed food isnt the same as asking for money from your in-laws!

It’s the principle of trying to get something because β€˜it’s not fair’ that someone has more than you.

Life isn’t fair. The human race is warmongering and selfish. People make stupid choices in their lives.

No amount of money can cure that.

Goatsarebest · 02/06/2026 20:52

In Naples there is graffiti all over the place saying 'eat the rich'. It's taken me a while to truely understand it on the different levels, but I think I do now. It's a brilliant slogan.
It's makes the point and can be taken literally or figuratively and expresses distaste about the rich whilst also offering a distasteful solution to the issues which, of course, will never been a solution.
The rich aren't the solution to any of societal problems. They wouldn't be so rich if they actually cared about society.

whatsit84 · 02/06/2026 20:51

It’s quite naive to think that money would fix this. Corrupt political systems will always exist.

What do you expect them to do? How can you feed people with shares and intangible assets?

Also, do you realise that Elon Musk - one of the richest of all the billionaires, couldn’t afford to fund the welfare bill in the UK for one year?

If all of the billionaires have all of their wealth to the UK government, it would last less than 15 years before it ran out.

So what, together they could maybe possibly stabilise one country similar in population to the UK, but only if they also sufficiently combated corruption and improved culture so that they could be self sufficient in say ten years (as there’d need to be a lot of upfront spend to get the country anywhere like the UK is now to start with).

They have an insane amount of money for one person, but it’s not that much at all on a global scale.

And even with that money, some people would lose it all within a few months and others would accrue much more.

Socialism is a nice theory but it relies on everyone being prepared to play their part. Spoiler alert - they won’t. You can’t put the capitalist genie back in the bottle any more than you can get people to boycott Amazon and all their AWS hosting etc.

If it’s a choice between using a shopping platform to buy decent goods and have them delivered very quickly or boycotting them at considerable inconvenience, let’s get real…

If you actually want to do something OP, then do something. Demanding others give away their money is a lazy option - like those threads on here from people who are angry that their parents or in-laws are well off and won’t hand over their money to them

Why do you post such inane threads with equally inane and inappropriate gifs?

GCSE study leave, presumably…

I consider myself quite eco conscious but when the privileged muppets from Just Stop Oil were protesting it genuinely made me want to abandon all that.

The way to make things happen isn’t to force people to do things,

Like a PP example with Elon Musk. Say he was prepared to give enough money to the UK to sort out poverty, but then said the people who benefitted had to have ten children? Or none?

Because nothing comes truly free

Exactly this. It's so pseudo-intellectual to spout off against "billionaires" as a way of trying to appear smart. Anyone who has a bit of intelligence knows that developmental issues like wars, famine, corruption etc can never be solved by money alone. Some regions of the world have always been plagued by violence and giving them aid has never significantly changed anything. How can money help when a country has miserable rates of human rights, zero gender equality and democracy?

Even if you provide funding to build new schools for girls, those in charge of the projects are all local males and most of the money will disappear under corrupt circumstances. Local politicians are ones who need to make lasting change and if they show no interest, why should a random Jeff Bezos who has fuck all to do with Sudan be forced (by the leftist police?) to give up his money for something else.

Just imagine you have a neighbour down the road whose on benefits, has 5 kids with 3 men, alcoholic and always complains about being broke. The someone comes and forces you to send her Β£100 a month. Simply because you earn more than her. You don't know her personally, you don't approve of her life choices, but you are now forced to give up your money because some random entity decided it's "fair" because her life makes them feel sad. Why the hell would anyone agree to that?

Edited

I mean, I completely agree with you. But you just described the welfare system being propped up by tax payers πŸ™ƒ

I'd boycott amazon though!

You’d struggle. AWS hosts an awful lot of website (I think included government websites), and is where they make nearly all of their money. It’s not even practically possible to know what websites use it so it’s almost impossible boycott.

Also OP, how do you feel when Elon Musk tried to fix the UK according to his own beliefs?

Good point - if you force the rich to hand over their money, do you not think there will be conditions attached? The plebs would have to live their lives controlled by the people who are funding them.

sleeppleasesoon · 02/06/2026 20:34

You’re beef is with capitalism OP. The answer is socialism.

Also join a trade union and get active. This is the working class vehicle for change.

Thank you for this insightful measured response instead of just attacking me - you clearly do amazing work.

Mostly I just feel irritated - its one of those days where you just think, come on!

I wonder the cost of stabilising fuel costs for the whole world πŸ‘€ - could that cost more than a billion πŸ€”

Sure itd be propping up Donald Trump and the companies profiting from this war, but itd be stabilising economies around the world

Global fuel consumption is priced in trillions per annum so, no, a billion won't do much.

To put things in perspective: UK government spent Β£13 billion on aid last year. A billion is not that big a sum of money in this arena.

NeverLookInTheMirror · 02/06/2026 20:33

The problems in Africa will never be solved.

The problems go far too deep, and it’s not just about corruption, although that definitely plays a part and is the reason why giving money to foreign countries in the name of foreign aid is pointless and is just funding said corruption.

But the problem goes as far as the cultural norms of the people you’re trying to help.

You can’t just solve world hunger by giving people food. You have to give them education. Because you go to any African country, and the people there look after their families and their families only. Give someone seeds to grow a crop and they won’t build a booming business, sell what they grow, feed their families and put some of the profits away, they will grow enough to feed their families. There is no concept of putting some by for a rainy day.

So you have to educate the people as well as tackling the corruption.

And then there’s the second reality.

In comparison to someone in Africa, poverty in this country does not exist. I’m not saying that people aren’t struggling financially but when you compare to countries where there is literally no food, no water, no government handouts, everyone here is in a position where they should be able to contribute to world hunger, after all, they have something the genuinely poor don’t.

Except that’s not how it works.

Even people like the OP is rich compared to people in DRC, and yet she isn’t saying how she is helping, she still thinks it should be someone else’s responsibility.

She’s no better than the owners of amazon, apple etc, she’s just in a different league.

Ive posted 4 gifs. One of a mob, one of Steve carell saying no, to illustrate my frustrations. Two in response to people harassing me, and they arent funny.

This is a serious topic, but i am rightly just irritated about it. I dont claim to have the solution, but i would love to see people be forced to sort it. And even if hunger cant be stopped in countries we have no way of getting into, it can be stopped in other places and other ways, such as in the UK and by a billionaire deciding to do something about stabilising oil prices.

How can you force people to do something about it? It may frustrate you but forcing people to throw their money into a bottomless pit is just envy.

Do you think that they would stop waging war? Of course they wouldn’t. Humans are a deeply unpleasant, violent species as shown by the fact that there are wars all the time.

If you shared the entire wealth of the world equally and then came back a couple of years later, many of the previously rich people would be rich again and many of the poor people would be poor again.

Nothing is as simple as throwing money at it.

And why is it up to the UK or forcing billionaires to stop it? Why not force the corrupt leaders and all the fighting groups in those countries to stop? Obviously easier said than done.

And WTF does this even mean πŸ˜‚?
"When the purge comes, i'll be remembering some of these usernames, sorry πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ"

I guess it's time for a name change to avoid the purge πŸ˜‚
