AIBU to wear a white print dress to my brother’s wedding & dressing my DD in white too?

I plan to wear a white dress with a nature print on it for my brother’s wedding in August. Picked it out with DM, she thinks it’s definitely fine. The thing is my toddler DD will also be wearing a white. Do you think anyone would take offence? I’ve added a picture of a similar dress on this thread because I don’t want the actual one on here if I wear it.

Wondering what you think?

All of these dresses are cute and imo great for a little girl for a wedding without it looking like you are trying to insert her into the wedding party.

I also wanted to say i don't understand the bridezilla comments they have a colour/theme for their wedding, it is no different from "black tie" or whatever nobody seems to call that bridezilla but add a bit of floral or pastel on the invite and it is the bride has lost her mind !

Edited

They don’t have a colour/theme for the wedding though

Yes apparently you’ve slept with the groom. Who makes up this rubbish??? Jesus!🙄

I have no idea! I haven't heard red mentioned like that for years it just reminded me of Mil and her attack of the Vapours 😀

Because it's a very common style to have a pale background with a floral pattern on a summer dress which is traditional wedding attire and normal people don't get all het up about traditional wedding attire being inappropriate.

Tbf, I wasn't at all bothered by what people might wear to our wonderful shoestring budget, DIY, informal wedding many years ago... But still, no one did wear white. And I definitely wouldn't wear something more than 25% white to a wedding myself. I just think as there are so many other colours to wear, it's easier to just avoid it altogether in case the bride is bothered by it.

Oh I would apply the same annoyance at being told to wear black tie as I would to wearing a specific colour.

What is it with women on MN and their compulsion to wear white or near white to other people's weddings?

Tbf I think it's selection bias. People post because they (or someone else) has had second thoughts about their outfit. I wouldn't post a wedding outfit on here for approval because I would simply choose a suitable one in the first place.

It means you are a "scarlet woman " apparently. I had red bridesmaid dresses 30+ years ago and my late mil needed a lie down 😂

A friend of mine had similar but red flowers and ran it by grooms mother who was horrified and also said wearing red is deemed unsuitable for a wedding!! What is that about.
Definitely check before wearing it as I’m sure some brides are not strict.

Never Fully Dressed (loads on Vinted) is my go to for wedding outfits, plenty of colour, no need for any white. I second Monsoon for girl’s dresses, plenty out there that aren’t bridesmaidy.

I’m Irish and we really dress up for weddings, the original dress is perfectly nice but not formal enough, imo.

outerspacepotato · 02/06/2026 11:03

No, those aren't appropriate, especially the one for your daughter. She shouldn't be dressed in all white. Don't do that to her. She's 4, she doesn't get to pick, you have to choose an appropriate dress for her.

The invitation specified formal and pastel
The one you've picked is neither. Go by what the invitation says.

Are you unhappy with who your bro is marrying? Because that's what it's coming off like.

Etc etc

It was fun looking - my daughter is 13 so it's just being grumpy and wearing black in our house now. I miss the cute dress phase!

I think red is again the whole look at me thing.

A 4 year old can wear a shiny dress with a big skirt to a wedding and it's really fine. She's 4! She knows there's a big party happening and wants to wear a big party dress.

The handwringing over a child wanting to wear a fancy twirly dress is ludicrous.

Yes I think the op can still find something the DD loves.

Would she like the sequins on that long Monsoon one OP?

Well I think a sheen could be fine if it was a little A-line shift dress or similar.

LaliqueSaltGrinder · 02/06/2026 10:53

But shiny dresses aren't appropriate and she is 4 so doesn't get to dictate.

I think it’s a bit unkind not to let husbands little nieces be flower girls

To be clear, he has five nieces, plus a much younger sister. I have one niece, and five young female cousins are who all angling for a position in the bridal party also. It would have been absolutely insane to include all of them, and unfair to include some and not others, and there is no reason the BRIDAL party needs to come from the groom’s side - especially when some of the groom’s side were absolute bullies to us, and in particular me. They made our lives hell and no longer a part of them. That is why I drew the line at my one niece being a flower girl, rather than having 12 of them. So no, it wasn’t “a bit unkind”, and I suggest you answer the OP’s question instead of trying to slate me about this.

No, this is the type of dress DD said she wanted, a shiny one

She's 4. You decide what is appropriate for her to wear to a wedding and a bridesmaid style dress is not it.

Then you need to take charge and say no.

Are you upset your dd isn't a flower girl/bridesmaid? You seem absolutely determined to dress her as one regardless of posters linking lovely dresses.
