Do you pack your husband’s bag when he goes away..?

Was chatting to a friend of a friend the other day. She was having a moan about her useless husband. In the course of this moan she mentioned that she’d had to pack his bag for a work trip. Just breezed past it as if it was the most normal thing. I was like wait…why are you packing his bag for him?? She huffs and puffs about “oh he won’t do it properly” or some shit. Didn’t really have much of an answer.

Mentioned this exchange at work. Seems this is not particularly uncommon. Had women moaning about having to do “all the packing for everyone” for family holidays etc.

i am quite baffled by this. Why are some women packing their husbands bags for them..? If nothing else, my husband wouldn’t want me to pack his bag for him. Being a grown adult he’d rather choose his own clothes.

Some men are absolutely fucking useless but my god, some women really don’t help themselves…

If we’re going away together DH will sometimes put out clothes on the bed and I’ll pack them. Sometimes the other way around tho :) Depends who’s got time. But for a trip I’m not going on, no. DH does it alone like a grown up.

Motheranddaughter · 02/06/2026 01:02

No
TBF he would think I had lost the plot if I started packing his case

suburberphobe · 02/06/2026 01:01

This makes me laugh......

Back in the 1950's.

My (ex) FIL told me his mother packed his honeymoon suitcase, and his wife had packed for his every trip thereafter.

Sayswho546 · 02/06/2026 00:52

No I don’t pack for him but do check in do you have xyz and occasionally he has forgotten to pack a “basic” e.g something like
a mobile charger (and before I get jumped on he would have no intention of not having his phone on…but would be a pain in the arse needing a detour to buy a new charger)

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 02/06/2026 00:45

DH travels fortnightly for work, has been doing so for approx 17 years. He packs for himself (obviously?) and has got very efficient at it.

Last trip he forgot his toiletries bag. First time in maybe 400 trips.

He was so disappointed with himself 😂

Pyjamatimenow · 02/06/2026 00:44

No but mine is ten years older than me and was already broken in and trained by someone else

CountryGirlInTheCity · 02/06/2026 00:42

I dont nursemaid the man, he does the washing, puts clothes away, does housework and maintains the house and gardens, but because he lives in work clothes everyday - he just doesnt think about clothes and sundries.

My DH wears smart clothes when he’s in the office and takes more casual clothes on holiday, but he has a ‘holiday list’ on his phone of everything he will need and packs according to that. I couldn’t be doing with chasing around locating his phone chargers and deodorant and so on!

😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

No. Never.
I'd (very geniunely) suspect cognitive decline / neural damage of some form if he did.

Talkingfrog · 02/06/2026 00:40

We each pack our own bags. I am not making a decision on what another adult wants to wear., and they are capable od oack8ng 5geir own bag, so why should I do it.
Teenager packs their own bag. I may help get things together and I ask before leaving if certain key things have been included, but they wouldn't let me pack for them if I tried.
On a family trip I do most of the things that are shared such as first aid, snacks etc, but depending on what is being taken, and what space is in each bag, they are spread over everyone's luggage, but everyone adds to their own bag.

suki1964 · 02/06/2026 00:32

When we go away I tell hubby to get his clothes that hes taking out and left on the bed for me to pack and I have to remind him about how many pairs of socks and pants he will actually require

If I didnt he would come away dressed totally inappropriately. He will forget his reading glasses , or his meds or his pain relief or phone charger

Over the years Ive allowed him to "forget" to gather something up and it not be packed, but then the moans of him when away - not worth it

I dont nursemaid the man, he does the washing, puts clothes away, does housework and maintains the house and gardens, but because he lives in work clothes everyday - he just doesnt think about clothes and sundries

Because I've ironed them at the first end and it would irritate me to see them wrecked before he left!

After that he can look after them himself.

This is soooo easily fixed… he irons his own clothes like an adult? Mine does, and for the kids.

WhereYouLeftIt · 02/06/2026 00:24

No, and sort of.

If we're going somewhere for a week or so, we pack our own bags. If we're just going for a day or two we use one shared bag. He will get the bag out and leave all his stuff beside it (folded and ready to go), so that I can arrange my stuff the way I like it and then just pop his in too.

Fleur405 · 02/06/2026 00:23

I might pack my DPs bag for him if, say he had broken both his arms. I’m sure he’d do the same for me.

Otherwise, fuck that with bells on.

InterestedDad37 · 02/06/2026 00:23

I have 0% respect for any man who would let/want/require/need someone to pack for him!
Firstly, it's just wrong!
Secondly, I'm very picky about what I wear, and I would never let anyone choose for me 🙂

GaurdRails · 02/06/2026 00:23

God no 🤣 But I know men at work whose wives pack their bags, make them packed lunch. And these women have their own jobs! Insanity.

If we're going on a family holiday where we're sharing a suitcase then we both put our own stuff on the bed and one person is in charge of organising it into a suitcase. Could be me, could be him, I don't pick things up with my boobs so there's no reason a man couldn't do it.

Otherwise everyone packs their own bag. Massive ick for men who "can't do this".

I don't pick things up with my boobs

This should be a t-shirt slogan.

TheSmallAssassin · 02/06/2026 00:21

We all pack for ourselves here, though my husband's the one who usually makes sure we've washed all the clothes we want to take in time. I was only telling him this weekend how attractive I found his competence 😁

Cheeseandolivesplease · 02/06/2026 00:15

Only if I was kicking him out 😄

After that he can look after them himself.

Well, don’t iron them in the first place, obviously?

Wednesdaysotherchild · 02/06/2026 00:14

No way! He does all his own laundry & packing. I’m not his servant & he’s far better at packing than I am…

ItTook9Years · 02/06/2026 00:13

In 25 years I’ve never washed, ironed or packed DH’s clothes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

SunnySunnyDayz · 02/06/2026 00:07

When we go away together yes because I distribute everyone's stuff between all cases so we still have something to wear if one goes missing.

On his own, it wouldn't even occur to me. He's shit and will be pulling stuff out of the dirty laundry that he wants to take with him at midnight but that's his issue.

Rookie93 · 02/06/2026 00:07

If we're sharing a bag then OH sorts out what he wants to take and I pack for us both. If we have separate suitcases he packs for himself.

Penkie · 02/06/2026 00:07

ShillyShallySally · 02/06/2026 00:05

But but but why have you ironed them?!

😂
I like precision ironing!!!!
