AIBU in worrying that my son’s trip with his “friend” isn’t so innocent

My son (26) who never goes out, has told me he is going on a trip to London over the weekend to watch a show with his friend, he says they’ve booked separate rooms but I’m worried. He’s never talked about a girl before and claims they’re just friends.

My main concern is they’re going to be in a hotel together, albeit in separate rooms as he claims… does this trip sound like it’s just so he can get together with her intermittently?

AIBU in thinking this is more than just a friend and more than an innocent hotel stay?

This is one of those threads where you click on a poll and you know before it displays the results it’s going to be 99% YABU and the other 1% clicked on the wrong option!

THEDEACON · 01/06/2026 20:10

Hes 26 its NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS get a life!!

Pedallleur · 01/06/2026 20:08

Is it a woman or a 'friend' who may be male or female? OP just said friend. Man or woman he is 26. If it's a shag fest I hope he enjoys every minute. Just hope OP hasn't got the hotel details.

GotTheBluePeterBadge · 01/06/2026 20:06

Did the doctor forget to snip the umbilical cord?! He's a grown man for goodness sake!

3luckystars · 01/06/2026 20:05

???? Wtf has it to do with you???

Endofyear · 01/06/2026 20:03

What exactly is it that you're worried about OP?

HortiGal · 01/06/2026 20:01

He’s never talked about a girl because he knows you treat him like a toddler.

anothernewname6789998212 · 01/06/2026 19:58

Sorry what 😂 I initially misread and thought it said 16.

But 26!!! It’s absolutely none of your business what the sleeping arrangement is or whether they’re just friends. He’s very much a grown man who may or may not be in the early stages of dating someone and not yet wish to divulge the details. It’s really none of your business.

NotAWurstToIt · 01/06/2026 19:53

I do feel a bit bad now joking about this, because looking at the OP’s other posts, it’s clear she’s quite anxious about a lot of things.
OP can you try and think about what about this is making you anxious? Can you flip it and be pleased that your son is venturing out and has a friend / relationship. That’s healthier than him not going out at 26, surely?

Okay you made a typo and he’s 16, right OP??

If it was a typo surely she would have been back to correct that by now.

HoldMyWine · 01/06/2026 19:50

He’s 26 keep your beak out

user293948849167 · 01/06/2026 19:50

He’s 26!
All you need to do is hope he has a lovely time

Are we missing that this is a person who never goes out, and has announced out of the blue that they are spending a weekend with someone you know nothing about and he may know nothing about. Sure, when I was 26 I was living independently, had travelled all over the place, met assorted people, but it seems that, for whatever reason, this young man has not. So I do understand OP being worried.

She should have worried a long time ago when he wasn't going out. He has probably met someone online which is quite normal now.

KeeperOfTheSevenKeys · 01/06/2026 19:49

I doubt the OP is coming back...

OneNewLeader · 01/06/2026 19:47

What exactly are you worried about? This seems like a perfectly reasonable activity for a 26 yo? Be pleased that he’s doing something enjoyable.

Cherryicecreamx · 01/06/2026 19:45

You can't be serious. This must be a wind up 😂 he's 26.. let the man be.

MassiveOvaryaction · 01/06/2026 19:42

Awaiting drip feed of severe additional needs and/or 'oops it was a typo he's only 16/6'.

Seems she's not worried about him going to Big London so much as what he may be getting up to with the wanton lassie who wants to lead him astray though.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 01/06/2026 19:41

This can not be for real surely? It’s got to be a troll post.

TheKittenswithMittens · 01/06/2026 19:31

It sounds like an episode of Sorry.

What’s it got to do with you? He’s a grown man.

Pedallleur · 01/06/2026 19:20

Don't worry. OP will be tracking his phone and making sure he has clean underwear. Maybe some condoms?

Unforgettablefire · 01/06/2026 19:20

bovrilormarmite · 01/06/2026 19:15

Come on people. This is a wind up. OP has not reposted. Just sitting back laughing

Unless 26 was a typo and she’s frightened off by all these posts 😂
