AIBU in worrying that my son’s trip with his “friend” isn’t so innocent

My son (26) who never goes out, has told me he is going on a trip to London over the weekend to watch a show with his friend, he says they’ve booked separate rooms but I’m worried. He’s never talked about a girl before and claims they’re just friends.

My main concern is they’re going to be in a hotel together, albeit in separate rooms as he claims… does this trip sound like it’s just so he can get together with her intermittently?

AIBU in thinking this is more than just a friend and more than an innocent hotel stay?

Is his name Timothy?

(if you’re old enough, you’ll know)

B1anche · 01/06/2026 22:03

To the numerous posters who have said that it is non of OP's business / beeswax ... the word is NONE (note the 'e') not "non".

Thanks

CrispySquid · 01/06/2026 22:01

HE’S TWENTY-SIX

ffs

Clearingaspace · 01/06/2026 22:00

This must be a joke? Unless you are worried because he normally doesn’t go anywhere at all and might be out of his depth? Even then it’s probably a good thing? At least he is telling you where he is going.

Kokonimater · 01/06/2026 21:58

please explain what you are worried about. Nobody here is understanding what your problem is.

vanessashanessa99 · 01/06/2026 21:54

I bet you will wash & iron all his clothes & pack his bag won't you. Jesus woman, I have 4 sons so trust me when I say this CUT THE CORD He's 20 friggin 6!

Waitingfordoggo · 01/06/2026 21:52

What on earth? He’s 26! Has he had a very sheltered life?

SereneGoose · 01/06/2026 21:49

Ha! I hadn't read last post before mine...snap.

NetZeroZealot · 01/06/2026 21:48

🧌

SereneGoose · 01/06/2026 21:48

Wind up... unless you meant 26 months?

Genevieva · 01/06/2026 21:33

Is this a typo? Did you mean 16? At 26 I’d be delighted.

G5000 · 01/06/2026 21:31

was it a typo, he's 16 and you're worried he will be a teen dad or something? Because otherwise this post makes no sense. Why on earth can't a 26 year old adult man have a 'not innocent' hotel stay with a woman?

Laura95167 · 01/06/2026 21:27

Clutch the pearls. Adult man, takes women to a show and may share a room with her at a hotel! We best inform the elders!!

Seriouslt though, whats the worry?

That he will lose his innocence? That hes vulnerable in some way? That hes going to behave like a predator? That hes going embarass himself?

Frankly I think it weird hes explained the sleeping arrangements to you and cant really understand why his plans matter?

ApolloandDaphne · 01/06/2026 21:10

Blimey. Overprotective much?

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 01/06/2026 21:03

It’s none of your business. He’s 26. What on earth does this sleeping arrangement have to do with you as his mother?!

Okiedokie123 · 01/06/2026 20:55

I’ve looked at the ops other threads. This isnt a wind up, she’s a very anxious overthinker.
@JosieMay1970 he’s 26. Let him have his fun.
And I suggest you get some counselling re your anxiety. Spend some time talking to them about priorities and what does/does not need to be worried about.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 01/06/2026 20:52

I assume OP meant to type 16 and not 26 (hopefully)

curtaintwitcher78 · 01/06/2026 20:48

Timothy and Mrs Lumsden?

Ved · 01/06/2026 20:44

Whhhaaaa? Confused

BurnoutGP · 01/06/2026 20:43

Has he got ALN? If not WTAF

LBFseBrom · 01/06/2026 20:37

I think this post is a wind up.

OP, it might not be.a girl......

LBFseBrom · 01/06/2026 20:36

What business is it of yours? Your son is 26 for goodness sakes, he's entitled to a private life. Does he still live with you?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 01/06/2026 20:35

So what if it’s not innocent

Stoicandhappy · 01/06/2026 20:26

SnappyQuoter · 01/06/2026 19:01

Maybe he doesn’t go out because he has a controlling mentally unwell mother.

Having had a quick trawl through OPs posting history, I suspect this might be correct sadly.

Rhubarb24 · 01/06/2026 20:20

Crimblecrumblerules · 01/06/2026 18:39

Why don't they work?

Because she was always treated like a baby, so when she has to do anything that involves responsibility or acting like an adult, then she gets anxiety.
