AIBU in worrying that my son’s trip with his “friend” isn’t so innocent

My son (26) who never goes out, has told me he is going on a trip to London over the weekend to watch a show with his friend, he says they’ve booked separate rooms but I’m worried. He’s never talked about a girl before and claims they’re just friends.

My main concern is they’re going to be in a hotel together, albeit in separate rooms as he claims… does this trip sound like it’s just so he can get together with her intermittently?

AIBU in thinking this is more than just a friend and more than an innocent hotel stay?

He’s literally 4 years off being 30.
unless there’s some neurodivergence you’re about to drip feed us, please cut the strings

Legolaslady · 02/06/2026 10:59

Is this real??

Lightuptheroom · 02/06/2026 10:58

Respectfully, unless he has a vulnerability, I'm surprised you even know. I have a 30 yr old step son who lives in supported accommodation, where it would be a concern, on the other hand my own ds is 24 and lives 300 miles away so I have absolutely no idea what he does day to day.

HappyToSmile · 02/06/2026 10:56

What are we all missing here? He is 26, so surely he can live his life how he wants, with whom he wants, unless there is some huge drip feed

Squirrel60 · 02/06/2026 10:54

WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?

Your son, aged TWENTY SIX, actually has a female friend whom he's going to be spending time with in a separate room hotel? OMG! The audacity of him! Shock! Horror! What if she corrupts his mind? I hope she does! And he never goes out? Gasp!

He's a fully grown adult, 26, sounds like he's mentally being held hostage by you! Even if he has some sort of severe disability and struggles with life - I've no idea if that's the case or not - he STILL HAS THE RIGHT TO HIS OWN LIFE AWAY FROM MUM'S APRON STRINGS!

If their rooms are separate or if they share a room, or if they shag or if they don't, I totally fail to understand what business it is of yours!

Bloody hell, woman!

Good on him and his friend is what I say, and I hope they have a brilliant time together and with the show and anything else. He deserves some freedom and air!

BauhausOfEliott · 02/06/2026 10:31

You're worried that a 26-year-old man might have sex?!

Frankly, if I had a 26-year-old son I'd be a lot more worried if he wasn't doing normal stuff like this.

Seriously, why would you be worrying about this? Is there a massive dripfeed coming or what?

27pilates · 02/06/2026 09:52

You realise he could married with kids at 26 😳🤷‍♀️
MYOB is my advice

This must be a wind up.

Not according to others who have found her other posts unfortunately.

liamharha · 02/06/2026 08:34

He's 26 it's none of your business . And if he is sleeping with him so what 🤷🙌

Brucebogtrotter257 · 02/06/2026 06:57

They are going to be at it like the clappers. They've probably booked two rooms for the variety:)

BIossomtoes · 02/06/2026 06:54

Well @JosieMay1970 hasn’t returned so probably.

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 02/06/2026 06:37

This must be a wind up.

TeaCupTinsel · 02/06/2026 06:30

Yikes! It's the origin story of an overbearing MIL to be!

IamNotBeingUnreasonable · 02/06/2026 05:49

He's 26!
What's wrong with you 🤨

Afterthefact · 02/06/2026 05:29

Are you worried that it might not be a girl he's going with or maybe somebody that he's met online - have you asked him who his friend is? Do you have conversations with him or does he just not engage with you for some reason? Has he ever had a relationship?

Tunotips · 02/06/2026 03:36

Joke post, and a thumping good one too!

Zanatdy · 02/06/2026 03:34

OP, I think you’re afraid to lose your DS to a woman. He is an adult now, and it’s perfectly possible to have a good relationship with your son still. Of course we see MIL hatred on here, but not everyone is like that. My son’s partner is lovely, and yes I’m no longer as important in his life now he has her, but I love to see him happy, and this is the natural order of events, we raise our children, but they grow up and have their own lives.

CoffeeAndCats3 · 02/06/2026 00:48

Surely this is a typo and he's actually 16?
Or it's a joke post?
Nothing else would make any sense..

suburberphobe · 02/06/2026 00:38

Chill out mum. He's an adult.

NestaArcheron · 02/06/2026 00:34

I was married with two children at 26 - give it a rest

sittingonabeach · 02/06/2026 00:34

Is the age correct or a typo?

Sam9769 · 02/06/2026 00:18

You say that he's never talked about a girl before. Maybe it's a man he's meeting but just using a girl's name as a decoy!

Sam9769 · 02/06/2026 00:13

Instructions · 01/06/2026 17:28
