AIBU in worrying that my son’s trip with his “friend” isn’t so innocent

My son (26) who never goes out, has told me he is going on a trip to London over the weekend to watch a show with his friend, he says they’ve booked separate rooms but I’m worried. He’s never talked about a girl before and claims they’re just friends.

My main concern is they’re going to be in a hotel together, albeit in separate rooms as he claims… does this trip sound like it’s just so he can get together with her intermittently?

AIBU in thinking this is more than just a friend and more than an innocent hotel stay?

It’s none of your business really is it at 26. At some point you need to let him go & do grown up things. This could be the start of him going out more & having a lovely time. Let it gooooo!!!!

I thought half term had finished 🙄

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/06/2026 17:40

I think your are on the money with this!

Shoes232 · 01/06/2026 17:39

He’s 26. Your strange.

I hope they have a great time

ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer · 01/06/2026 17:39

Is this real? It’s absolutely none of your business, but hopefully yes they will get it on if they like each other

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 01/06/2026 17:39

It's possible (though by no means certain) that there is something romantic/sexual going on between them, but if so, why bother with the extra expense of separate rooms? Anyway, if there is, they're both way over the age of consent and I can only think of two reasons for worrying about it:

  1. because you belong to a religion that does not allow sex before marriage (but does he share those beliefs? If not, it's not your responsibility to decide for him!)
  1. you are inappropriately over-protective and it would benefit both of you if you could manage to let go!

Get a life. He’s 26.

What?! Did you type 26 in error?!

Surely this is just a troll post for engagement.

If not I hope your son has a lovely weekend with his friend/boyfriend and isn’t stressing about having such an unloving mother.

It clearly says girl, why do you think boyfriend?

HiZev · 01/06/2026 17:38

I need you to urgently tell me what you think intermittently means.

KilkennyCats · 01/06/2026 17:38

You should be more concerned about a 26 year old who never goes out.

LadyLooo · 01/06/2026 17:37

26

So funny lol.

Monty36 · 01/06/2026 17:36

It really is none of your business if your son is 26 years old.
Unless you think him particularly vulnerable in some way. But if he is not then girl or not it is up to him.

Deffo a wind up.

Bumbumbumbumbum2026 · 01/06/2026 17:34

No wonder he doesn’t talk to you 🙈

gloopyshoopy · 01/06/2026 17:34

Oh lord. Leave him be. It's quite frankly not your concern. I thought for one minute you were going to say he had just turned 16 😵‍💫

Hallywally · 01/06/2026 17:32

As PPs have said, unless are additional vulnerabilities or it’s a typo and you mean a 16 year old, this is pretty weird OP. He could be living with someone, married with his own children at 26.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 01/06/2026 17:31

What is the worry with an adult going out with another adult? It’s no wonder he’s never talked about a girl before

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 01/06/2026 17:31

WTF have I just read. I am seriously hoping it was a typo and you meant 16 not 26.

Else what, exactly, is it you are worried about? Have I missed something?

Kinekia · 01/06/2026 17:30

Are people really falling for this?

mindfulmoaning · 01/06/2026 17:30

Unless his ‘friend’ is under 16 then none of your business

JHound · 01/06/2026 17:30

Oh is this a plop and run…?

LynetteScavo · 01/06/2026 17:30

I think good for him, and it’s none of your business what his intentions are.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/06/2026 17:29

Unbelievable! Leave the man alone.
