AIBU in worrying that my son’s trip with his “friend” isn’t so innocent

My son (26) who never goes out, has told me he is going on a trip to London over the weekend to watch a show with his friend, he says they’ve booked separate rooms but I’m worried. He’s never talked about a girl before and claims they’re just friends.

My main concern is they’re going to be in a hotel together, albeit in separate rooms as he claims… does this trip sound like it’s just so he can get together with her intermittently?

AIBU in thinking this is more than just a friend and more than an innocent hotel stay?

Seriously Op? 🤦‍♀️

Happyjoe · 01/06/2026 17:54

You sure it's a woman?!
Anyway, none of your business. Sad he can't feel like he tell you about a love interest though.

Asterales · 01/06/2026 17:53

Did you type "26" by accident? Is he 16? Even then, I don't think you need to be quite as concerned as you appear to be, a candid chat about condoms and consent should cover the bases with a 16 year old, I'd have thought.

Newbie8918 · 01/06/2026 17:52

This is a joke surely?

Unless special needs leave alone. 26!

Even with special needs, he still deserves a private life.

Tryagain26 · 01/06/2026 17:50

What does it matter? It's his business. He is an adult and not even a very young adult.
I don't understand what you are worried about.

sesquipedalian · 01/06/2026 17:50

Good grief, OP, if he wants to share a room with two other men and a llama, that’s his business. As a matter of interest, just how old do you think your DS needs to be before he can have some sort of private life - without his DM poking her nose in? I pity any girl or boy he does go out with - you’re setting yourself up to be the MIL from hell.

AImportantMermaid · 01/06/2026 17:50

He’s 26. He could be shagging his way round London (and I hope he is) and it would be none of your business.

Horses7 · 01/06/2026 17:50

🤣
Surely you are joking??
If not your son will drop you like a stone unless you stop micro parenting him - he’s 26!!!!!

Vaxtable · 01/06/2026 17:50

What has it got to do with you? Nothing

hes an adult, leave him be and keep your nose out

Silverbirchleaf · 01/06/2026 17:49

Are you ‘worried’ the friend is male?

ToadRage · 01/06/2026 17:49

Does it matter at his age? I could understand you being worried if he was 16 but Christ he is old enough to do whatever he wants and why would he lie. You couldn't stop him even if you wanted to.

Lighten up brace yourself it could be a man he’s with
do what u in f they get together no. Issues

what are your worries

It wouldn't matter if it was a man
It's not illegal.

SherbetDipDap · 01/06/2026 17:46

Did you mean 16?

I was married with a child at 26… and I’d had plenty of experience before then, I can assure you 🤣

OverTheWater28 · 01/06/2026 17:46

He’s an adult. This is none of your business

WhatNextImScared · 01/06/2026 17:46

Oh my goodness me. He’s 26 not 16! If he tells you they’re friends they are friends until he mentions otherwise. Whether or not they’ve got a friends with benefits relationship is absolutely nothing to do with you. What is there to worry about?!

Does he still live at home? I have to say one of the biggest problems with the housing crisis is parents having far too much daily info about their young adult children. It’s not healthy.

I thought half term had finished 🙄

Hard to differentiate if you are referring to the OP or some of these answers.

thoughtaboutitall · 01/06/2026 17:43

I think you should tell him to cancel or go with him because no way would I allow my 26 year old to London in separate rooms with a friend of either gender. My god

user1476613140 · 01/06/2026 17:42

AprilMizzel · 01/06/2026 17:42

At 16 they can't be in many hotel rooms without an adult who booked being there. So if you menat 16 - then I'd be worried about whole thing.

If you really did mean 26 - he's an adult - what he does with who as long as it's legal isn't really any of your bussiness unless he wants you to know.

Stoicandhappy · 01/06/2026 17:42

Is this a joke?

Beavis8 · 01/06/2026 17:41

He might be going to shag his brains out OP

Pearlstillsinging · 01/06/2026 17:41

Whatever has it got to do with you?

I'm surprised he has told you anything at all about his trip.

Becuriousnotjudgemental1980 · 01/06/2026 17:41

I don’t get it. He’s 26 not 16!
