AIBU in worrying that my son’s trip with his “friend” isn’t so innocent

My son (26) who never goes out, has told me he is going on a trip to London over the weekend to watch a show with his friend, he says they’ve booked separate rooms but I’m worried. He’s never talked about a girl before and claims they’re just friends.

My main concern is they’re going to be in a hotel together, albeit in separate rooms as he claims… does this trip sound like it’s just so he can get together with her intermittently?

AIBU in thinking this is more than just a friend and more than an innocent hotel stay?

Unless OP managed a typo and it's either a 16 year old teenager or a 26m old toddler, then I'm not sure what the problem is.

LAMPS1 · 01/06/2026 18:07

Be delighted for him OP.
Don’t make any sort of fuss or drama. Neutral reaction only.
And don’t question him at all.
He has a lot of catching up to do.

Wolverine23 · 01/06/2026 18:06

26?! or did you mean 16?

Passingthrough123 · 01/06/2026 18:05

Why would you be worried?

Namechangeforthisdilemma1 · 01/06/2026 18:04

Is 26 a typo?

afaloren · 01/06/2026 18:04

Open a window, love.

Intermittently 😂

Well apparently they're in separate rooms so they may well be intermittently intimate 😂

FreyaW · 01/06/2026 18:03

Eh?
This has to be a parody post of sorts.

Even with special needs, he still deserves a private life.

True.

Tel12 · 01/06/2026 18:03

Why does he never go out? Why are you worried that he may have formed a romantic attachment??

Hopelesscase32 · 01/06/2026 18:03

No wonder he has never been out if this is how you act

RoseField1 · 01/06/2026 18:02

The posts on Mumsnet from women fussing over, babying and being extremely intrusively involved in their adult children's lives are beyond alarming. Do you actually think it's normal to have these thoughts about your 26 year old son? Let alone say them out loud to people?

holjam · 01/06/2026 18:01

Ffs he’s 26! What are you worried about?

KnowledgeableAvocado · 01/06/2026 18:01

Is this a joke? 🤣

Rooroobear · 01/06/2026 18:00

What have I just read? I hope you mean 16 and not 26 (not that that makes it better) jeez mate!! Do you need to hold his hand when he goes to the toilet too?

I predict this op will not be back

mindutopia · 01/06/2026 18:00

I think it’s weird that two young guys travelling for a night out would book separate hotel rooms. At that age, Dh and his friends were definitely sharing rooms and probably a bed, as just needed a place to crash. None of them are gay if that’s what you’re worried about!

NiftyKoala · 01/06/2026 18:00

Wow. He is 26!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 01/06/2026 18:00

2/10.
Try harder, OP.

Sahara123 · 01/06/2026 17:59

Ye gods and little fishes he’s 26!!! Leave him alone !

beetlebum123 · 01/06/2026 17:58

You said he never goes out. So why aren’t you happy that he’s made a friend and is socialising?

As for sharing a room – it’s none of your business! I’d be happy if my 26yo found a nice girlfriend or boyfriend. Isn’t that what most people want for their children?

Bigminnie1 · 01/06/2026 17:58

It’s got to be a typo and he’s 16- surely…

viques · 01/06/2026 17:58

Like hell have they booked single rooms! I hope they have a great time.

BridgetJonesV2 · 01/06/2026 17:56

Unless he's a vulnerable adult, I'm not sure you should be probing into this.

Let him have some fun. I'm assuming he knows about contraception?

rockthemix · 01/06/2026 17:55

He’s 26. Leave him be.

PinkHairbrushClub · 01/06/2026 17:55

He's 26, it's none of your business. If this is serious you are way too involved
